Ireland began their five-match NZ tour tonight, losing 32-17 to the Māori All Blacks.

Māori All Blacks 32 (Zarn Sullivan, Shaun Stevenson, Brad Weber, Cullen Grace tries; Josh Ioane 2 pens, 3 cons)
Ireland 17 (Bundee Aki, Gavin Coombes tries; Ciaran Frawley pen, 2 cons)
    Halftime: 32-10

The Māori All Blacks and Ireland paid tribute to late Kiwi rugby star Sean Wainui ahead of their clash in Hamilton on Wednesday evening. Wainui, who was a key member of the Māori All Blacks during his career, was remembered ahead of Ireland's first match of their New Zealand tour.
It was the first Māori All Blacks match since Wainui's death in October last year at just 25 years old.
Ireland's captain for the clash, Bundee Aki, placed a No 11 Ireland jersey (Wainui's main jersey number during his career) on the field ahead of a powerful Māori All Blacks haka in tribute to their teammate.

Bundee Aki presents an Ireland jersey to the family of the late Sean Wainui.

If Ireland plays against the ABs like they did against the Maori then it could be triple digits.

A rugby evening. I wartched Japan v France till half-time when it was 13-13, then switched to the All Blacks Ireland.
France went on to win, played in humid 33C conditions. They meet again next Saturday in the second Test in Tokyo.
    Japan 23 - France 42

The Irish Times: Ruthless All Blacks punish Ireland errors to rack up hefty winning margin
    New Zealand 42 Ireland 19
Ireland have made progress in the last two and a half years, as evidenced by a dozen wins in their previous 13 tests going into this match. But the All Blacks in New Zealand is different gravy, all the more so in Eden Park, and this was a shuddering reality check.

Ardie Savea crossed for two tries for the All Blacks

    New Zealand 42
Tries: J Barrett, Reece, Tupaea, A Savea 2, Sowakula Cons: B Barrett 6
    Ireland 19
Tries: Earls, Ringrose, Aki Cons: Carbery 2
    Halftime 28-5

^ I haven't had a pint of John Smiths for as long as I can remember.

I'm determined to get back on the bitters this summer.

    What a result

Australia have beaten England 30-28, despite having a player red-carded in the first half.

To quote the Oz rugby site I follow, plenty of filth from the grub Poms . . . England lock Johnny Hill got away with some serious hair pulling and a slap to the face of Darcy Swain who retaliated with a very weak effort at a headbutt and was red carded.

Anyhow, great result. A highlight for me was seeing English lock Maro Itoje told to shut up by the referee - he screams incessantly - and I really do mean scream - to try to drown out opposition lineout calls, a tactic developed by the 2017 Lions in NZ.

BBC Australia 30-28 England: Tourists suffer dismal defeat against 14-man Wallabies
    Australia: 30
Tries: Petaia, Fainga'a, Samu; Pens: Lolesio 3; Cons: Lolesio 3
    England: 28
Try: Genge, Arundell, Van Poortvliet; Pens: Farrell 3; Cons: Farrell 2

And five years on finally a ref tell him to shut up. he's an utter fckwit

Back to 2017 and the Lions in NZ when it was a determined team tactic and no one stopped them.

The British and Irish Lions intend to bombard the All Blacks line-out with extreme “noise pollution” in the first test on Saturday as part of their bid to overwhelm the world champions with a pressure game.
One of the striking features of the Lions game plan during their tour of New Zealand is several of their forwards, most notably England lock Maro Itoje, screaming just as their opponents are attempting to throw the ball into a line-out.

Wales not maintaining their momentum as usual, they tend to switch off once ahead, SA come back strongly in the 2nd half and deserved the win

ang on down to 12 and a try

level the score and then kick possession away with the clock nearly on 80, fukin mad - threw it away

A man down and several injuries. It was carnage.

The stream that the pub had awarded 4 points for the final conversion showing a score of 30 30 at full time and confused a few people. The owner come over later to offer me commiserations on the ‘draw’.

Another weekend successfully spent plonked on the couch with an ample supply of beer and BBQ chicken.

For the first time in history ever, me yelling "Don't fcuk it up, Wales!" at the TV screen actually worked. Four tours coming down to the last game means next weekend will be similarly unproductive and quite enjoyable.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

The weekend's results - all wins to the away teams, and some history with first wins ever to Ireland in NZ and Wales in SA
    Unpatriotic as I am I had Ireland 1-12 @ $7-1

    Japan 15 - France 20
    New Zealand 12 - Ireland 23
    Australia 17 - England 25
    South Africa 12 - Wales 13
    Argentina 6 - Scotland 29

And a word from Eddie Jones the Australian coach of England

"I love coaching at Suncorp Stadium, it's a good experience," said Jones, who coached Australia from 2001 to 2005.
"You have got 48,000 people all full of drink and all they want to see is their team win.
When you turn them away, it's a great experience. A great feeling.
"I was coming out from the coaches' box and they all have their scarves on.
When did Australians start wearing scarves? It's all the rage isn't it? They are not so smart now.
"Before the game they are coming up saying to me you are going to get belted tonight.
Now they are a little bit more quiet.
    So that's good.
    I enjoy that."
