Tiger Woods' full time career is over

I would have liked to have seen him "walk out of that hospital with one leg", that would be a medical miracle.

Tiger Woods has said be won't be able to play golf full-time "ever again" after a car crash in which he could have lost his leg.
The 15-time major champion was speeding, police said, when his SUV hit a tree in Los Angeles in February.

His chances of more top titles appear to be over and the 45-year-old said he's looking at just one or two events per year if his rehab goes well.
Woods told Golf Digest: "I think something that is realistic is playing the tour one day - never full-time, ever again - but pick and choose, just like Mr [Ben] Hogan did.

"Pick and choose a few events a year and you play around that."
The golfing great said he accepts his time competing among golf's elite is probably a thing of the past.
"I can still participate in the game of golf. I can still, if my leg gets OK, I can still click off a tournament here or there," he said.

"But as far as climbing the mountain again and getting all the way to the top, I don't think that's a realistic expectation of me."
The 45-year-old suffered open fractures to his right leg in the accident and said there was a chance it could have been amputated.
"There was a point in time when, I wouldn't say it was 50/50, but it was damn near there if I was going to walk out of that hospital with one leg..." said Woods.

After the crash, he told police he did not remember driving, let alone how the crash occurred, and thought he was in Florida.
His car was travelling as fast as 87mph in a 45mph zone, according to the LA County Sheriff's Office, and going 75mph when it hit the tree.
Woods also told Golf Digest he's had five back operations, and despite a recent video showing him hitting balls is "not even at the halfway point" for considering a comeback.
The golfer's crash came four years after he was controversially found asleep at the wheel of his Mercedes with the engine running.
Police video showed him failing a sobriety test and he was charged with driving under the influence. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
Toxicology reports showed he wasn't drunk but had a mix of drugs in his system such as painkillers and sleep medication.

The dudes personal life has proven to be a shitshow. How many major car crashes has he had now? Seems to me, the rich bastard should let someone do his driving? Or is he up to no good when he is out on these drives?

Umm yeah, he means with one leg and one prosthetic, obviously.

He's really made one massive mess of all his gifts.

    Obviously ... yes....

Tiger Woods' full time career is over-mrs_brady_old_lady-png

He's really made one massive mess of all his gifts.

It sort of reminds me of Best and the "Where did it all go wrong Mr. Best" story.

Without the being skint and needing a liver transplant bit, obviously.

Many say he was doing great till he started shagging anything with a pulse but they're wrong, the best golf of his career was while he was shagging them all and the wheels only came off once he got pinged. 82 PGA tour wins which equals Sam Snead for the most ever, that's about 10 more than Jack Nicklaus and 40 more than Phil Mickelson to put things into perspective. Best golfer any of us will ever see, by far.

Although one could argue that he did it in an era where billions have been spent creating veritable ball striking machines whereas the heroes of yesteryear did it with a stick with a bit of wood or metal on the end.

No doubt, but given his comeptition had the same access to the same technology his wins are still a fair comparision.

Tiger's consistent ability to play miraculous shots from seemingly unplayable positions confirms IMO that he is the best ever.

    No doubt.
Never been a Tiger Woods fan, off the course, but it’s hard to debate his greatest.
    He’s the GOAT.

It's been done many times before that current players try hitting balls with equipment from days gone by and they can adapt quite quickly. Then it should be taken into account that everybody used basically the same equipment way back when just as they do now, so it's always been a level playing field. But yeah, if any top 50 player in (say) the 60's could have got his hands on the clubs and balls used today he'd have been World #1 forever.

Well put, many more modern day players are much easier to like on and off the course but none are as good as Woods.

I know it’s cliché, but the dude’s got ice water running through his veins.

The dude with ice water running through his veins holds the record with 18 majors.

Nicklaus took 24 years to get 18. Tiger took 11 years to get 14, and then came the back troubles.

Nicklaus also holds the record for runner-up in majors. i.e. not enough ice in the veins to close the deal.

Tiger is the GOAT, by far.

The back troubles, the drink troubles, the driving troubles.

That's why he only got to 15.

A few other posters have yet to chime in. Worth debating a few more pages yet.

Then we might be able to conclude that Woods was the GOAT.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. I can't wait for the same thing to happen to Lewis Hamilton.

You want Lewis Hamilton to have a crippling car wreck?

Another particularly small-minded opinion by you . . . anyway, if that's the case then you'd not fall at all . . .

A rugby player of some renown here also ran into a tree and died - yes, a tragedy of course. Reporting was, like with Woods: 'the vehicle hit a tree'. Nope, the driver drove into a tree.
"The 25-year-old sole occupant was killed after the car crashed into a tree"

I nominate Phil Mickelson . . . I'd like to see Woods play so well left-handed.

    Uuuuhhhhh . . . controversy

And arguably the most famous sports person in the world in his prime. He certainly got more views on sports channels than any other golfer, that is for sure.
