And yet again, without engine penalties or crashes , there's no Mercedes podiums.

Russell had a far more refined race than Hamilton. Hamilton lost the back end once.

I was right. Leclerc was making time on Max when he went off. Without the wreck , Leclerc wins.

I think whinger spice will be on the blower to the scrutineers when he's not panicking about Max's car blowing up again.

Where the living fuck did George get that lap from? He was in tears bless him.

I don't expect he'll keep the lead long, but still.

Definitely a surprise, he put in a real hot lap. He earned a tip of the hat for his first poll. Should be interesting tomorrow.

Why is it a surprise that Russell got pole ? He is one of the top driver prospects in the world. That was buried in a minor team for 3 years to protect someone else.

The rain never materialised but George did so well to keep in front for 32 laps.

Of course Ferrari and Pepe are an accident or a breakdown waiting to happen, so you never now.

Plus Mad Max is still lurking in the vicinity.

It’s fair to say Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton aren’t the best of friends, but they were united in shock and amusement after yet another Ferrari strategy blunder at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Charles Leclerc looked on course for victory midway through the race at the Hungaroring. However, Ferrari opted to use the preferred medium tyres in the first two stints, meaning he had to use another compound for his third stint.

Despite seeing other drivers struggle on the hard tyre, it was still the rubber Ferrari opted to fit – and the result was disastrous. In cold conditions, Leclerc couldn’t get the tyres up to temperature, allowing Verstappen to overtake him.

Leclerc was gifted the lead back soon after when Verstappen had a minor spin but the Dutchman recovered and passed his rival again.

Leclerc was then overtaken by Russell before Ferrari had to embarrassingly make a third stop, switching him to soft tyres. Having qualified second and third, Ferrari didn’t even get a car on the podium as Lewis Hamilton passed Carlos Sainz for third and then Russell for second before the end of the race.

Sainz was fourth with Leclerc a sixth as Verstappen took the victory to extend his already huge championship lead, with Hamilton second and Russell completing the podium.

In the cool-down room ahead of the podium ceremony, the trio chatted as they watched highlights of the race. At one point, a surprised Hamilton pointed out Ferrari’s decision to put Leclerc on hard tyres, to which Verstappen replied, looking equally bemused: “On the hards!?” Meanwhile, Russell smiled in amusement.
