A Brit wins a Grand Slam Singles Championship

Teenage dream: Britain’s Raducanu makes history with staggering US Open title win over Fernandez

"Emma Raducanu completed one of the most astonishing stories in tennis history as the British teenager captured the US Open title with victory over Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in New York.

In an all-teenage final at Flushing Meadows, Raducanu ran out a straight-sets winner 6-4 6-3 to become the first British female Grand Slam singles champion in 44 years.

Appearing in just her second Grand Slam, the teenage star also became the first qualifier – male or female – to go all the way to the title at a major tournament in the Open Era.

The young star, who was born in Canada to a Chinese mother and Romanian father but moved to the UK at the age of two, was taking her A-Level school exams just a few months ago but has now become a national icon in Britain and a heroine far beyond."

Amazing feat by the teanager especially given she is the first women's player to win the US Open without losing a set since Serena Williams in 2014.

    Yeah, great stuff.

She seems really bright and ‘normal’ too.

She actually had her ticket booked home after the qualifiers and before the main tournament started.

Apparently her tournament hope was to win enough to replace her broken airpods.

Good to see that grumpy arse Djokovic lose as well.

at last, and after a long wait. there is a new girl, someone other than the usual tattooed, botoxed, and surgically enhanced dumbfxck illiterate celeb slappers that the british public, mostly the underclass, love to celebrate.

lets hope she is grounded enough to survive the gushing media hype and the hordes of hangers on that will attempt to bask in her glory and lets hope the army of desperate sleazoid hacks that i am sure are already searching through dustbins and twitter feeds to find some dirt on her come up with bupkis, zero, nil and nought.

Well apparently that cockhead Nigel Farage has been taking it up the arse after congratulating her.

Apparently he forgot it conflicts with his pathological hatred of immigrants and Romanians in particular.

Which tells you quite a lot about Edmond as well.

Good stuff- there is something in that for several nationalities, and a cutie too. A positive advert for the multicultural UK, and a kick in the teeth for the bigots.

How about someone from, say, Nigeria of Nigerian parents, who came to England when they were two years old and considers themselves English, Mao.

Are they not really English, in your view?

Finding yourself on the same side as Chico must be a bit unsettling.

The self deprecating outlook of a well raised young sportswoman. I suppose it helps that she is attractive too.

    That's not fair

Ireland has, over the years, claimed topspot for the most non-native players on their football team.

I'm sure he has gotten used to that by now.

    I have

Her coach is British. Born and bred there, so that's good.

^I remarked here something yesterday about 'arry's unbiased labelling (wondering why he does not like him?), now I see it's no longer here, forgot whether my remark was so ugly as 'arry's?

    Which nationality has she chosen?

She may be able to have a Canadian, Romanian, Chinese or UK passport! And she is an attractive looking Asian babe.

But as she moved to the UK at 2 years old, and it's been such a long time since Virginia Wade .... so Brit it was.

No, not a ml of English blood flows through her body. She may have four nationalities to choose from.

Who really cares? Let's hope she can continue winning/being happy, whatever she does in life.

Very likely her mother's tongue, her father's tongue and her English tongue, one hopes without a "sarf london" twang, as well.

US Open champion Emma Raducanu set for stardom, earnings boost, say marketing experts

A Brit wins a Grand Slam Singles Championship-6a1c4348-01a6-494b-bfb9-e4c8eba607c2-jpeg

Emma Raducanu's astonishing US Open triumph could lead to a pot of gold worth around 20 million pounds ($37.56 million) over the next two years and that may be just the start, according to sports marketing experts.

    Key points:
    • Emma Raducanu received more than $3.3 million for beating Leylah Fernandez in the US Open final
    • Marketing experts expect the young Briton will earn far more money through endorsements
    • Nine of the top 10 earning sportswomen in the world are tennis players, largely through off-court earnings
