Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
I'M interested now S L, when did they bring this "sport " into the Olympics?
They never had this when I was a teen.
Sounds like the US made a bit of a mess of the 4x100m.
Thailand's Sudaporn Sisondee lost to Kellie Harrington (IRL) in the Women's Lightweight boxing, giving her a Bronze medal.
Galal Yafai's Semi Final in the Men's Flyweight is at 12:48 Thailand.
Will be handsomely rewarded I fancy...
Hugues Fabrice Zango’s bronze in the men’s triple jump final is the first-ever Olympic medal for the West African nation of Burkina Faso.
Zango noted that his success also came on his country’s Independence Day, in comments to the media.
“I’m pretty happy for Burkina Faso because today is the Independence Day of my country and I got the first medal for my country. This is really good and it’s historic for me and for my country,” he said.
“It’s not the medal I wanted but it’s good for Burkina Faso and it’s historic. Burkina Faso is really happy. Everybody is happy. I think they will throw a great party when I go back.”

The Tokyo Olympic Committee need to move with the times.
A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.
^ Well done. Now add the medals Great Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand have won to the USA totals. And didn’t Puerto Rico get a couple? Can we claim those?
Out of curiosity, has any silver or bronze medalist ever competed in the next Olympic games that came from China, or did they "retire" ?
Medal Tally Update.
^ Convicts picked up a few more Gold today and push back past Great Britain
Good Job New Zealand ... punching above their weight with 7 Gold.
---
I was curious where China was picking up the bulk of their Gold.
They are first, daylight second when it comes to weightlifting ...
^ That Gold from Chinese Taipei must have smarted
China is handy at shooting things. USA note ... do not invade!
---
And the Host Nation ... where do they excel?
JUDO!
A little under half their Gold comes from the Sport.
---
The Convicts will slowly slip down the ladder because ...
^ Like the East Germans and recently the Russians ... the odour of testosterone lingers.
That said ... watching the Lassies Diving ATM ... can't see how drugs can assist.
A Chinese Lassie, only recently a Teenager (shes 14) just completed a perfect '10'.
Credit where credit is due.
I see, this could be extended, but by what criteria shall we agree on?
Which countries to include in the two blocks, physical presence, agreed and unagreed, military associations, commercial associations, total debt to their creditor ...
Puerto Rico appears to "unincorporated" - I'm not familiar with that status. It is not a UN member and wiki states it's:
"United States has sovereignty over 14 territories. Five of them (American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands)"
So.
Puerto Rico's gold added and table updated.
New Zealand's Lisa Carrington wins third gold at Tokyo Olympics
Lisa Carrington became New Zealand’s most prolific Olympic medallist on Thursday when she won gold in the canoe sprint women’s K1 500 final in Tokyo – her third gold of the Games.
The victory gave Carrington her sixth Olympic medal and fifth gold, pushing her to the top of the country’s Olympic podium she shared for two days with fellow paddlers Ian Ferguson and Paul MacDonald and equestrian Sir Mark Todd, who all won five Olympic medals.
Team USA Women's Water Polo Beats ROC to Advance to Gold Medal Match
The U.S. women’s water polo team rallied from a three-point deficit to trounce the Russian Olympic Committee in a 15-11 victory.
With that win, Team USA moves to the gold-medal match and will face either Spain or Hungary, who face each other in the second semifinal at 6:50 a.m. ET.
The U.S., gold medalists in London 2012 and Rio 2016, were on the verge of crashing out before the final until a late push helped them over the line. With just over five minutes left, Aria Fischer put the U.S. ahead 12-11. From there, Alys Williams and Madeline Musselman ensured the win with 3 points between them.
The win was partly thanks to three points from captain Maggie Steffens. Steffens is the all-time leading Olympic scorer in the sport.

Galal Yafi won his Men's Flyweight (boxing) semi and goes for Gold against the Phils' Carlo Paalam on Saturday morning.
^^ Lass looks like an athlete.
^I was watching the match. All those women are in great shape.
Nageotte wins pole vault gold
Katie Nageotte (USA) is the only vaulter who clears the bar at 4.90m after Holly Bradshaw (GBR), defending champion Katerina Stefanidi (GRE), and world champion Anzhelika Sidorova (ROC) all fail at that height.
Sidorova had one attempt at 4.95, her world championships-winning height, but missed.

Canada's Damian Warner strikes gold in Olympic decathlon
London, Ont., athlete sets Olympic record with 9,018 points
On a steamy night in Tokyo, Damian Warner was as cool as can be, recording the highest score ever in Olympic decathlon on his way to Canada's first gold medal in one of the Games' oldest and most storied events."It's been a long two days. When you go through the whole battle of the decathlon and finally finish and you get the result you were looking for, there is no greater feeling. This is a dream come true," Warner said.
"I've never been in this position when one of my dreams came true. I don't even know how to react right now," added Warner, who at 31 years old was the oldest competitor in this 21-man field.
Warner, whose 9,018 points are also a new Olympic record, made it known from the beginning of this two gruelling, two-day event that he was the man to beat in Tokyo and deserving of the unofficial title of "the world's greatest athlete. (The world's hottest as well )
