To forego the witty comments of experts: Yes, I know about the 4 years, so what? Cannot be 5? When the first Olympics were held after the WW2, were they called 1940, or 1944?

    It can bring some confusions:
-That woman won in Olympics 2020? How it is possible, she was pregnant in 2020...
-That man won box in Olympics 2020? How it is possible, in 2020 he has not reached 18 yo.

But what about the printed things with "2020"? Yes, it would pity to throw it away, won't be?

It's a silly rule, I think it may be challenged more.

The shorts they chose were just as pleasing.
I guess the number of viewers and subsequent sponsors/prize money will determine that.

TV network apologises for opening ceremony broadcast

A South Korean TV network has apologised after using inappropriate images and captions to describe countries during the opening ceremony.

    MBC used
    • images of pizza to describe Italy,
    • an upheaval for Haiti,
    • Chernobyl for Ukraine and
    • salmon for Norway,

when athletes from those countries entered the stadium for the opening ceremony.

In its captions, the network referred to
    • the Marshall Islands as "once a nuclear test site for the United States" and
    • Syria as the country that has had "a civil war going on for 10 years".

MBC issued an apology after its choice of the imagery sparked backlash online, saying:
"Inappropriate images and captions were used to introduce some stories.
We apologised to those countries including Ukraine and our viewers".

Panipak Wongpattanakit edged Spanish teenager Adriana Cerezo Iglesias to win Thailand’s first gold medal in the women's taekwondo in the 49kg category on Saturday.

Panipak, nickednamed Tennis, trailed the Spanish 9-10 with nine seconds to go when her last shot gave her two points and the 11-10 win.
Serbia's Tijana Bogdanovic and Israel's Abishag Semberg won the two bronze medals.

Netizens called what happened in the nine seconds a miracle, which not only gave Thailand the first gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics but also the first ever for the Taekwondon Association of Thailand.

"Congratulations," the association posted a message on its Facebook account.

    #NongTennis
quickly became the top tweet topic Thailand.

Panipak, 23, won the bronze medal in the Olympics in Rio De Janairo five years ago.

She almost quit after returning home from her Olympic debut in Brazil but returned to training after a two-month break.

Andy Murray has withdrawn from the tennis after another injury. Probably time he retired from the sport, not like he needs the money.

World No. 1 Ashley Barty crashed out in the first round to the No. 48, leaving Osaka with a good chance of Gold.

A cloggy celebrated winning Gold in the cycling before being told an Austrian rider had finished a minute ahead of her. That must have been an emotional roller coaster.

TOKYO — The golf world is reeling after two of the best golfers will miss the Tokyo Summer Olympics because of the coronavirus. World #1 Jon Rahm of Spain and #6 Bryson DeChambeau of the U.S. both tested positive before leaving for Japan.

Not meaning to be pedantic ... but would that be 'diver' and not 'swimmer'?

You're not being pedantic, you're just being wrong.
