USA wins 2-2 (4-2) to advance to the semi-finals
Alyssa Naeher is the star for the USA as she stops two penalties in the shoot-out, including the first from Vivianne Miedema (who scored both of the Netherlands' goals in regular time) to help the 2019 World Cup champions advance to the semi-finals at Tokyo 2020!
Every USA player who stepped up to take a penalty converted, punctuated by Megan Rapinoe's final strike that sealed the win.
Cruel on the Netherlands, who were making their Olympic debut in the women's tournament, but it is the four-time Olympic champions who advance to meet Canada in the semi-finals.: Tokyo 2020

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Make that 3: Caeleb Dressel (USA) sets world record in winning gold in 100 fly
Caeleb Dressel keeps the gold medals going.
Dressel set a world record in the 100-meter fly on Friday night, winning his third gold medal of the Olympics. A little more than an hour later, Dressel and Ryan Murphy, a friend from the 904, teamed up in the 4x100 mixed medley relay but finished a disappointing fifth to end Dressel’s quest for a perfect Olympics and six gold medals.
But for Dressel, it’s not quite done yet.
Dressel will swim for another individual medal on Saturday night in the 50 free and likely another on the 4x100 medley relay team.
Medals there would give Dressel five for the Games.
His effort on Friday night was a spectacular show of endurance, a three-event evening all spaced out across 73 minutes.
Dressel hit the split in 23 seconds and finished in 49.45 to beat Kristof Hun Milak (49.68) in the 100 fly. Dressel’s time broke a previous world record he set (49.71) on July 26, 2019.
Golden day as China tops medal tally

A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.
^Must be hard for them to stay one step in front of the anti-doping agencies all the time.
Team GB beat the industrial chinky team to win Gold in the Mens 4x100 Medley Relay. The old chinkies will have to go back for a bit of "reeducation". ***
Team GB also crush the Mixed Triathlon Relay final.
*** I should add they also set a new world record of course.

Why does the collective of Great Britain compete as a group instead of 3 individual countries, namely England, Scotland and Wales?
Since Northern Ireland isn't included in that lot (as in the UK) ... does it field it's own team?
Are the Irish there (at the Olympics) ... or down the Pub with a Pint?
I think it's because the UK were considered one country when the IOC looked at it. FIFA came later and the individual countries had their say (even now, half the IFAB board is the UK nations I think).
Somehow it morphed from the UK to GB.
Northern Ireland is in the United Kingdom but not Great Britain. So they compete with Team Ireland.
It's been a good Olympics for Australia- we've already won more medals than we did at the last Games. But only one of our medals comes from dry land! Anyway, running 5th- not bad for a nation of 25mm.
Dressel wins gold #4
Here it is, the shortest and fastest Olympic final in the pool, the men's 50m freestyle.
Caeleb Dressel of the USA is in lane 4 and the favourite for this race as he chases a five-gold meet.
Caeleb Dressel wins in an Olympic record 21.07!
Caeleb Dressel wins the 50m freestyle by the largest margin of victory in the event’s Olympic history (men or women) -- .48 of a second.

Caeleb Dressel wins fifth Tokyo gold medal in men’s 4x100 medley relay
TOKYO — In a blazing finish to the swimming competition at the Summer Games, the U.S. men’s 4x100 medley relay set a world record Sunday to win gold at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. Ryan Murphy and Michael Andrew joined Dressel on the relay with Zach Apple anchoring the quartet.
The victory in 3 minutes, 26.78 seconds bettered the previous record set by the U.S. in 2009 by a half-second. Britain finished second in 3:27.51.
The relay also gave Caeleb Dressel, who won the 50 freestyle earlier in the day, his fifth gold medal of these Games.Great Britain silver, Italy bronze.: Tokyo Olympics live: Caeleb Dressel, Bobby Finke win gold - Los Angeles Times
