    USA hang on for gold

Play resumes. Unsurprisingly, France go straight for the personal foul. Rudy Gobert fouls out.

Kevin Durant has two at the line. Makes the first, four-point lead. Makes the second. France timeout.

The ball goes out to the corner, a three attempt from Nicolas Batum – it's missed!

The buzzer goes and USA win gold by five points.

    87–82.

Kevin Durant led the with 29 points. He had 6 rebounds.

Jayson Tatum managed 19 points with 7 rebounds.

For France, Evan Fournier and Rudy Gobert top-scored with 16 points each.

Gregg Popovich and the American coaching team come over to celebrate with other U.S. team officials. The players are in the centre of the court with American flags. Basketball - France vs United States - Gold Medal Game Results

Same 5 at the end. The French got us fair and square game one. But we got the one that counted. 87-82 and the gold.

There will be a nice reward for his opponent who came from extreme poverty and boxed to feed his family at the age of SEVEN.

Paalam's is an extraordinary story in itself, a former scavenger on the rubbish tips of the Filipino capital Manila, who was persuaded to enter his first boxing bout at the age of seven and used the money to buy rice for his family.

U.S. Golfer Nelly Korda Wins Olympic Gold

American Nelly Korda finished with a one-shot victory in the Olympic women's golf competition battling both the rain and her opponents in the final round. With the win, the United States swept the gold medals in golf.

Korda, 23, continued her sparkling season after winning her first major, the Women's PGA Championship in June, as well as two other tournaments, and then snagging the world number one ranking. Now she can add an Olympic gold medal to her collection of firsts this year.

"I've had a pretty good stretch of events, but that doesn't mean necessarily that you're going to play well," she said. "You kind of try to put the expectations to the side and just go out, have a nice fresh week, and enjoy the Olympic experience."

Start of the final day and where things stand. Top 10………

After failing to win a single gold medal across all track events leading into Saturday, the U.S. men's team dominated in the 4x400 meter relay's final heat to the top spot on the podium.

Saturday's win secured a gold medal for the U.S. men's relay team — an achievement the broader track squad has made in every Olympics the U.S. team has participated in.

The team of Michael Cherry, Michael Norman, Bryce Deadmon and Rai Benjamin finished with a time of 2:55:70.

Meanwhile, the U.S. women's 4x400 meter relay team won gold on Saturday, with U.S. star Allyson Felix bringing her Olympic medal count up to 11, making her the most decorated U.S. track and field athlete in history.

Because winning counts more than participation in the real world

Look back to where the US had more gold but fewer overall medals than China and the US media had the US at number 1. Situation changes and the US media adapts and questions like yours raised raised.

True . . . we have done better, even without the DDR and its 'Communist-Incentivisation'.

    But, Gold:

That time the ol' good Avery Brundage was so concerned with professionalism. That's why all the top US athletes trained in universities where they had excelled in many sciences...

Why is Russia even in the Olympics?

Russians are winning in Tokyo even though Team Russia is banned from the Olympics

Russia was officially banned in 2019 from competing in international sporting events for four years after it was caught running a state-sponsored doping program designed to boost its medal haul at international sporting events. The ban was later reduced to two years.
In Moscow, their athletes' exploits have been front page news for weeks and they're described as Russian athletes, not ROC athletes.

Lauren Price will be going for Gold in the Boxing soon.

In fact they've just said 12:45pm Thai time.

Ireland's Kellie Harrington goes for Gold in the Lightweight final shortly.

Jason Kenny has won a seventh Olympic gold medal, storming ahead to claim the win in the men's keirin.
The legendary cyclist from Great Britain was in a league of his own in the final, moving early to win the race by 0.763 seconds. Kenny, whose wife Laura has also tasted gold at Tokyo 2020 to add to her four golds from previous Games, won his first-ever gold medal at Beijing 2008 with a victory in the team sprint. He has gone on to amass a further six more golds in a spectacular Olympic career.
Malaysia's Mohd Azizulhasni Awang - bronze medallist in Rio - took an impressive silver, with Harrie Lavreysen of the Netherlands winning bronze.
However, the victory belonged to Kenny, who became the first Briton to win seven Olympic golds in any sport with a special victory at the Izu Velodrome.

    That was a tough fight.

The Brazilian was as hard as nails, but the Irishwoman mostly kept her at bay and outscored her from distance.

Gold to Ireland, a unanimous decision. Well done.

Thailand's Sisondee picking up her Bronze medal for the Women's Lightweight boxing too.

One of only two medals for Thailand after Panipak Wongpattanakit took gold in the Women's 49Kg Taekwondo.

    Well done to her.
