    We LOVE being the underdogs.

On reflection, Wednesday's game was a pretty interesting spectacle from a neutral point of view. The Blues really did play well.

    Bring on Suncorp!

^ The Blues were excellent, and well coached.

Our Maroons played with spirit, am proud of them, but not so sure about their coach.

No excuses ... Blues were best on night, bring on game 2

Oh ... I used to enjoy watching L Mitchell play ... but he's shown his dirty side, and I hate that.

'Ya think? He won one Premiership in his coaching career with a very good team led by Jonathon Thurston and that was only because Ben fucking Hunt dropped the ball on what should have been the last kick-off of the game. Instead, Hunt single-handedly invited the Cowboys back into it and JT said thanks very much. Then after something like 4 seasons in a row of not being able to get the Cowboys into the Top-8 of a 16 team competition, they finally sack him and now he's QLD head coach. Kills me to say it, but this series will be a whitewash

Having seen the QLD team for Origin 2 this morning, another 50 point belting is pretty much guaranteed. There's one player in the entire team that I rate and who's playing good club football right now, Josh Papalli. To bring useless fucks like Hunt and McCullough back into the team is pure insanity, both of them were booted out of the squad for being shit previously and they're both playing poorly at club level right now - Hunt turned over possession 4 times in the first half of his club game on the weekend which I thought that would surely be enough for the QLD selectors to put a line thru his name.

Then we've got an 18 year old who's played about 6 club games as Fullback, meanwhile NSW have Tedesco. Add to the mix a coach with zero credentials or credibility to run a team at this level, and my 50 point prediction is probably being too kind. For fucks sakes

In a way, it is! This will finally be the end of seeing some players on their 2nd or 3rd attempts to cut it at this level being shit-canned forever. No idea what the coaches contract is but he'll be gone next year too after this year's whitewash with a for/against of -100+ and Bennett (on a gap year from coaching NRL teams) will take over again.

^How the worm has turned from recent times when QLD won 11 out of 12 series in a row, and it would have been 12 from 12 if Cronk didn't break his arm before the 3rd game decider that year. I can easily see NSW having a run like that now

Edit to correct series numbers after checking on Googen.

I've got more than a few NSW supporting friends around the world who I cleaned up with gambling on those series, now they're looking for my blood and their money back by trying to get me to bet. Telling them I've since moved to Alaska and don't follow Rugby League any more isn't getting them off my back either

The Melbourne Storm Coach, Craig Bellamy, was an assistant coach under Bennett.

Bellamy is rated as the best coach doing the current NRL rounds.

Sadly he's 'one of em' ... not 'one of us'

    No NRL games this weekend.

QLD's best chance at an Origin victory this year may lie with the Lassies who have a run tonight.

Sunday is the day QLD level the series 1-1

Bellamy is without peer when it comes to coaching in the last 20 years, possibly ever if you want to look at his win/loss stats and how his team is pretty much guaranteed finals footy or a Grand Final appearance every year. Which is why Storm are so good, most of their players could be earning way more elsewhere but they just like being part of a system where winning is everything so they're happy to get decent money and win almost every week versus getting top money and wondering if they'll ever play in the finals again.

The only blemish on his career is having coached NSW for 3 years and lost all 3 series, he won 2 games out of 9! Must have killed him inside. Making it worse, the QLD team spine of that era were Storm players that he was coaching at the time (Cronk, Smith, Slater, Inglis, etc)

‘Holy s***’: Fans lose it at State of Origin thriller

The 2021 women’s State of Origin match proved a glowing advertisement for rugby league as the two states played out a thriller.

Rugby league has never been more divided on rules, crackdowns and talk of expansion, but the women’s State of Origin reminded us why it is the greatest sport on Earth as Queensland struck late to pip New South Wales 8-6 in a cracking contest on the Sunshine Coast.

Chelsea Lenarduzzi went from zero to hero in the space of minutes as she conceded a penalty to allow the Sky Blues to tie things up at 6-all before she redeemed herself with two massive plays at the death.

The Queensland prop produced a one-on-one steal to rip the ball from Filomina Hanisi, and then earned her side a penalty with less than two minutes remaining when Hanisi pulled her leg as she tried to play the ball.
It was the correct decision but it was a cruel blow for NSW who had been the better side for long stretches of the game as they looked to reclaim the shield after last year’s heartbreak.
They may have started the night as outsiders, but New South Wales were fearless in wet and wild conditions as they shocked their more fancied rivals with expansive ball movement from the opening set in front of 7183 fans.

The visitors defied a gale to dominate the yardage in the first half, running for 595 metres compared to Queensland’s 459 led by Botille Vette-Welsh and Millie Boyle, who was just about the best player on the ground.
But the Sky Blues couldn’t maintain their precision in attack, ending the night with 14 errors and a stack of penalties as ill-discipline cost them what would have been a famous victory.
The Maroons weren’t overly clinical with ball in hand, with last year’s stars Tamika Upton and Tarryn Aiken struggling in the slippery conditions, but their class shone through in the dying stages to make it back-to-back wins on the biggest stage.

NRL pundits called for a three-game series after Friday night’s gripping Origin contest. (Photo by Bradley Kanaris/Getty Images)Source:Getty Images

    Brill-iant
Queensland captain Ali Brigginshaw said in her pre-game interview that Destiny Brill “is the hooker of the future”, and as usual, the Maroons star was on the money.
Brill and Brigginshaw played together for the Diehards in the BHP Premiership Grand Final, and they were two of Queensland’s best, with the former scoring on debut with a dart from dummy-half.
The youngster went close earlier only to be held up by three NSW defenders, but she wasn’t going to be denied a second time as the Maroons punished a patch of ill-discipline from their southern rivals.
She looks a star of the future and is certainly one to watch in the NRLW this season.

    Triple the footy
Friday night’s contest renewed calls for a three-game women’s Origin series, with NRL experts and fans pleading for more opportunities for women on the representative stage.
“Give them 3 games!!” tweeted cricketer Alyssa Healy.
2Day FM radio personality Mike Christian concurred: “Petition to make women’s #Origin a 3 game series”.
Given the semi-professional nature of women’s rugby league in Australia, a three-game series could prove a logistical challenge for organisers, but there is clearly no shortage of demand for more women’s footy.

    Hairy situation
It caused a stir last year when Amber Hall was charged for an ugly hair pull that injured Isabelle Kelly, and the worrying trend continued on Friday with replays showing Brigginshaw pulling Kennedy Cherrington’s hair.
The first half incident will likely come under scrutiny, and highlights a concerning tactic that needs to be removed from the game.

    Kelly Gang
One of the biggest regrets from last year’s loss was the fact NSW didn’t give their star outside backs enough ball. It was never going to be an issue this time around, even if the conditions suggested otherwise.
Jess Sergis had a solid game even if she bombed what would have been one of the great Origin tries, but centre partner Isabelle Kelly had no such problems as she stole the show on the left.
Kelly nearly scored with her first touch but wouldn’t be denied with her next carry when she fought through several would-be defenders to grab the opening try after four minutes.
She finished with 142 metres and nine tackle busts.

It was a good game to watch, one of the NSW girls ruined it for her team though when the scores were locked level with just a few minutes left on the clock and she gifted QLD a penalty kick from right in front by pulling on the leg of a girl she'd just tackled who was trying to get back to her feet. The standard of play and skills of these girls is really good and they're not afraid of pain, there wouldn't be a male soccer player in the world who'd be tough enough to get through a game against them.
