England's 0-1 win against the Czechs looks a lot better this morning.

    As does Southgate's cautious approach.

Netherlands went gung-ho and got shot down.

I don't think England's doing bad job . . . more goals would be nice to boost self-confidence bit zero losses is also good.

The next game against Germany will define them. Win and they will go much farther . . .

Not sure about that - as we've seen, at the knockout stage anyone can beat anyone and, frankly, Germany aint all that.

Their defence is a mess at times.

Hopefully some of those times will be on Tuesday.

Nope, Germany 'ain't all that' this time but the morale boost would be amazing.

Well the reaction in the UK will be euphoric and, being the UK, at times embarrassing.

Doubtless 'The Sun' already has its 'Achtung Fritz!' headlines all ready.

Thankfully nowadays the players are so distant from all that 'age-wise'.

It's really just aimed at the 'Steady' demographic.

I would be delighted if England downed Jerry but I can't see it happening.

We have this ridiculous policy of taking players used to a fast, physical game and making them into safety-conscious robots.

And none of them look that comfortable on the ball under pressure, possibly bar Grealish who at least wins a raft of free kicks.

I wouldn't be surprised if most of England's training is about getting on the end of set pieces because they don't represent much threat from open play.

Throwing massive tree trunks and boulders seem popular sports.

    Chess, less so.

Scotland’s pretty big on the National Rugby Team.

Football would still be bigger as the young team would probably mature into rugby later.

Football and childhood… drugs and misspent youth… football and rugby, drinking and shagging… midlife crisis, vehicles… pipe, slippers and opiates.

Friday night is the better one.

A damn good one, in fact.

Any one of those 5 teams wouldn't be out of place in the final.

I must admit it's always nice seeing Scotland's rugby matches . . . I believe you beat England at Twickenham a few months ago. Must have felt good.

Where do the fried Mars bars feature and do people your generation still eat haggis? (I know it's a Euro thread - sorry)

    If only . . .

The Mars bars come into the misspent youth phase and haggis is always and forever. Oh and by 'opiates' I meant 'Benzos'.

I was just asking a German guy if he thinks they will beat Sweden in the 1/4s.

^ A very good mate of mine from Stonehaven always claimed that his local chippie invented the deep fried Mars bar. I don't know how true that is.

The first time I went to Scotland I ordered a pizza from the chippy (first mistake right there) and they threw it in the deep fat fryer...

Battered pizzas are amazing. It's a pizza, in batter. What's not to like.

Never tried deep fried ice cream?
