Not a bad performance, but not stellar either, Sterling proving a few people, wrong. Could have gone either way, though, not much of a confidence boost.

I think it's a massive confidence boost to get the first win under the belt against an ageing but still high quality team. They were World Cup finalists last time out and passed us off the pitch in the semis, but they didn't cause us any problems at all today and I don't think it could have gone either way. Did they have a decent shot on target?

We were comfortable throughout and much the better team. We can play much much better going forward too.

Sterling was indeed excellent. On the Beeb, they were saying that it was probably his best performance of the season!

Early days but I was expecting a higher-scoring match by England and the Croats of years gone by are nothing like this team - still, a win is a win and a confidence booster . . . I hope we have the same result against France

Mate, that's my non-England game of the group stages. I'm really looking forward to it. If you can get anything from that it will be testament to teutonic resilience. And if that is still prominent, every team needs to sit up and take notice.

Meanwhile, Hal needs to stop being taken in by the bookies tempting odds. That's another fiver I've donated to Mr Ladbrokes' house extension (even though I, once again, didn't even fancy Ukraine until I saw the odds I could get).

Edit: here we go! Come on Ukraine!

Re-building hasn't been completed . . . I'd say then next world cup will be a return to the Germany of the pat . . . a number 9 has been found and a few workhorses as well.

Anyway - aside from the loss to North Macedonia qualifying went ok . . . but France isn't a push-over by any means.

I'm thinking a draw or French win and then Germany gets stronger throughout the tournament.

Why did the keeper not put that into row Z?

I still fancy one more twist in the tale...one more chance for Ukraine

6 minutes overtime . . . and done and dusted. Good game . . . though Ukraine pulling ahead would have been nice.

Austraia did very well . . . Alaba will make a difference . . . as will Arnautovic. 3:1 against a team that beat Germany - admittedly a Germany with Löw playing third-string possibles - still, a win.

Three most satisfying results so far would be Belgium, Italy and Austria (or us non-English )

I assume Arnie didn't start because he was told to sit on the naughty step (again) for some reason?

Scotland unfortunate to lose a goal at the end of the first half. It was a brilliant header though. Looking strong though and we are very much still in it.

Could have had a pen for hand ball and Robertson only had to go low when he was 1 on 1 with the keeper. Real unlucky and great touch by the keeper.

You don't think it was one though, do you?

    It's obvious from that wording.

    Well, neither did anyone else.

Mashall had no business standing where he stood.. Isn't his job to guard the goal?

Czechs more clinical in front of goal for sure - Scotland have had their opportunities.

England should easily spank both of those teams.

I think we were the better team and we had chances...

...But couldn't finish a packet of crisps.
