Chiefs are in form and Crusaders are limping a bit with a thumping loss to the Highlanders a fortnight ago and escaping Wellington with an extra time win. The mighty red and black have lost two All Blacks in prop Joe Moody and centre Jack Goodhue.

So yeah, a good match should happen. An in form Chiefs side against the perennial powerhouse Crusaders.

    Go the Crusaders!
    pues, estamos aqui

How good is SR Aotearoa though!

    No easy-beat team at all.

That last set of phases by the Crusaders...why didn't they go for the droppie sooner?

Watched last weeks games with an English mate and he was querying me why Kiwi teams weren't better and more practised at the dropkick.

I couldn't really answer him. I thought we'd learned that lesson already but apparently not.

Kiwi & Aus teams. Witness the test last year when both teams had the ball within kicking distance and couldn't organise a droppie to win the game. It's like a draw is a better outcome than winning by a dropgoal.

There’s a bit of truth to that statement, I suppose the teams a drilled into playing possession rugby, drop kicks tend to be a good way to give that over.

After an uneven April, two losses and one win (in extra time) the Crusaders come back and comprehensively beat the Blues 29-6.

Next week a bye for the Red & Black. They'll host the Aotearoa Super Rugby final in a fortnight.

A rest while the JAFAs and Chefs fight to the death for a place at the final. Almost a sure thing.

The Chiefs have been on a tear. The Blues had better up their game.

Crusaders 24 -13 Chiefs. The mighty red and black triumph again.

Great comeback season by the Chiefs who had a nightmare campaign last year, but come up short in the final.

    Bring on the Trans-Tasman!

    Analysis

Super Rugby trans-Tasman: What you need to know about the New Zealand teams ahead of this season

    Super Rugby Aotearoa and AU-screenshot_2021-05-14-form-lines-all
The Crusaders from Canterbury won the last three international editions of Super Rugby, as well as the first two editions of Super Rugby Aotearoa. (AP: Mark Baker)

    Aussie Bla Bla Bla

The Crusaders claimed successive Aotearoa titles on the weekend, with a well-managed if not completely dominant 24-13 win over the Chiefs in Christchurch.

It marks their 12th overall Super Rugby title in 26 seasons, while their unbeaten run in finals matches played in Christchurch now extends to 25 games. It's little wonder they will start the trans-Tasman series overwhelming favourites.

The team they beat in the final, the Chiefs, went on a five-game winning streak to storm into the Super Rugby Aotearoa Final, which in itself represented a massive turnaround in fortunes.

The Blues always carry plenty of expectation, but they have fallen short in recent seasons.(AAP: Darren Pateman)

The Blues finished equal with the Chiefs on points but with one fewer win, and it probably has to be conceded that they fell well short of expectations in 2021.

The Highlanders have the triple-whammy of hosting the Reds first up in Dunedin, having a shocking injury toll that has seen them bring a number of replacement players in this week, all while being without their coach Tony Brown

And to finish, I had the Hurricanes ready to battle it out with the Blues at the start of the Super Rugby Aotearoa season, as the team most likely to then go on and challenge the Crusaders

    Here
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Ooh...a tight one in Christchurch as the game looked to be headed for a draw, but the Crusaders prevail 31-29 over the Brumbies.

Can't watch it on RugbyPass, the bastards.

But given the drubbing that the Aussie teams have received this weekend, perhaps it is just as well!

If you guys don't mind parting with about 2.5 or 3k Baht (or equivalent in foreign currency) per year, email worldwideexpattv@gmail.com and get him to hook you up with a package that includes a lot of sports. I just looked and the Rugby games today were on about 7 different channels from 7 different countries, all of which I've got. Fuck searching for free steams that may or may not exist and/or are shit quality, especially for PPV events, that was what we did 10 years ago. Get a free 24hr trial and see what I mean, if it's a live sport worth watching it'll definitely be on one of the channels in your package. My package is ATV CCTV for whatever its worth.

    ^^

I'm still on the old, reliable torrents when I go away for the weekend. Just have to avoid spoilers.

Just finished watching the Hurricanes game. Warratahs score 48 points and are the losing team. To quote The Princess Bride: Inconceivable!!

Another tough week for the Australian Super Rugby sides as they get a hiding from the New Zealand franchises. The closest match Western Force v Highlanders saw the Clan victorious by 10.

    Hurricanes 35-13 Rebels
    Force 15-25 Highlanders
    Blues 48-21 Waratahs
    Chiefs 40-19 Brumbies
    Reds 28-63 Crusaders

Going into the Internationals and Rugby Championship New Zealand's wealth of talent makes it a big ask for any team to beat the All Blacks.
