^Watching the North Sydney Bears vs Western Suburbs Magpies right now and the Bears are in more strife than the early settlers at the break. Love the retro jerseys

I was looking forward to a Bulldog revival at the start of this season with the introduction of a new coach but what a disaster.

And they seem to be getting worse game by game.

I predict a Penrith V Melbourne final again.

Is it still Magic Round without magicians?

Knights star full-back Kalyn Ponga is the latest big name to be ruled out after suffering a groin injury in the lead up — he joins his playmaker Mitchell Pearce on the sideline.

The Storm will be without big three Cameron Munster, Harry Grant and Brandon Smith, while the Eels will take the field with no Dylan Brown, who is sitting out with suspension.

We won't see Sharks half-back Shaun Johnson as he's still at least another week away from returning from a minor hamstring injury — and Titans enforcer David Fifita, who was named on Tuesday, has received a two-match suspension after failing to have his grade-two high tackle charge downgraded at the judiciary.

The other big names who we won't be seeing magic from are: Ash Taylor, Addin Fonua-Blake, Cameron Murray, Sam Verrills, Zac Lomax, Joseph Tapine, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Jordan Rapana, Ryan Sutton, Kurt Capewell, Paul Momirovski, Kotoni Staggs, Jesse Ramien, James Roberts, Jeremy Marshall-King, Josh Jackson and Lachlan Lewis.

I predict it'll be 2 decent teams with the least injuries, Penrith were extremely lucky in that department last year and this year so far too. The amount of what's classified as serious injuries (5 weeks or more needed to recover) has never been higher, something like 4.8 players per round of late. But, the game has never been faster either.

Expect a crack-down with sin-bins/send-offs for head high tackles.

The Boss (Peter V'landys) has spoken.

^So they should. Players have been getting a few weeks off for throwing a lazy arm out that makes any head contact, even if it was obviously unintentional and the opposing player wasn't hurt. God help anyone making intentional contact and the opposing player needing to go off for HIA now, they'll be suspended for months.

Australia and New Zealand pull out of Rugby League World Cup in England due to COVID-19 concerns

The 2021 Rugby League World Cup will be without its two biggest teams after Australia and New Zealand pulled out of the tournament "because of player welfare and safety concerns".

    Key points:
    • The ARLC and NZRL released a joint statement flagging COVID concerns and the time players would have to spend away from family
    • The NRL season is supposed to finish in early October, with the World Cup in the UK in from October 23 to November 27
    • Great Britain was the last country other than Australia or New Zealand to win the tournament, doing so in 1972

The Kangaroos and Kiwis account for the past nine World Cup titles dating back to 1972, when Great Britain won in France.

Rugby Football League (RFL) President Simon Johnson called this a “selfish, narrow and timid decision,” and said, “We are very dissatisfied with this decision and are not ready to lie down.” Inquest has begun.

Johnson is lobbying the International Rugby League (IRL) Commission to consider banning both countries from the next World Cup in France or the United States.

Dickhead wants the IRL to bite off its nose, just to spite its own face.

    No NRL today/tonight.

QLD, where ALL the teams migrated to to escape Covid19 in NSW/VIC is under a 3 day shutdown.

The 2021 NRL season has been thrown into uncertainty after the abrupt decision to postpone Saturday's matches due to Queensland's three-day COVID-19 lockdown.

    Key points:
    • Three matches in Brisbane and Rockhampton were postponed at the last minute
    • Sunday's two Queensland-based fixtures are also in doubt
    • Canberra has emerged as a possible alternate venue for upcoming games

Three round 20 games — the Rabbitohs against the Dragons, the Knights versus the Raiders and the Storm against the Panthers — have been called off.
Damm, I was really looking forward to the Storm/Panthers clash.

Can't believe the Roosters kept the Eels scoreless and the Warriors came back from 16 nil down against the Tigers with not a lot of time to play to run out winners 18/16

First time I've ever seen this, can vaguely recall 1 game being called off due to flooding and lightning but never 3 games in a day for any reason! Didn't think it was even possible to hate China more than I already did, but was clearly mistaken about that.

We all were mate, its still the most likely Grand Final pairing again and they've been the best 2 teams this year by a very long way. I think the Panthers would have been up against it with their current injury list and Storm would have been too good, as they've been all year without Cam Smith holding them back It amazes me how they lose Immortal standard players over the years, but only get stronger.

NRL to play five games in two days despite Greater Brisbane lockdown

Australian Rugby League Commission Chairman Peter V'landys said the competition will continue after the league was able to reach an agreement with the state government.

"I want to personally thank Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, state government officials, and in particular, Dr Jeannette Young for allowing us to present the most stringent biosecurity protocols which when implemented will ensure there is minimal to no risk in allowing our matches to be played with no crowds,'' he said.

(V'landys knows when to grovel to politicians and suck it up)

    Rescheduled Round 20 fixtures

    Sunday:

    • 1:50pm: Newcastle Knights vs Canberra Raiders
    • 4:05pm: Melbourne Storm vs Penrith Panthers ...
    • 6:25pm: St George Illawarra Dragons vs South Sydney Rabbitohs

    Monday:

    • 6:00pm: Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs vs Gold Coast Titans
    • 8:05pm: Cronulla Sutherland Sharks vs Manly Sea Eagles

Sterlo was always one of the best commentators of the game.

NRL 2021: League in shock over Peter Sterling bombshell

Rugby league fans have been left shocked and saddened at the news Peter Sterling is set to quit his commentary role with Channel Nine.

The Parramatta Eels legend has been a mainstay of rugby league commentary in Australia for the last 27 years, following a career that saw him regarded as one of the best halfbacks of all time.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Sterling is set to depart Channel Nine at the end of the current season after informing colleagues and the network about his decision.

With legendary fellow caller Ray Warren also close to hanging up the microphone after admitting that he came close to retiring in 2020, Sterling's departure is set to usher in a new era for Channel Nine's rugby league commentary team.

^Storm held him to *only* managing 2 Try assists and not scoring himself a few weeks ago, if anyone can stop him they can (again). Tom's game last week was simply ridiculous including that Try where he beat about 8 defenders. His stats were 3 Tries, 2 Try assists, 19 tackle breaks, 35 tackles, and 26 runs for 302 meters. Simply ridiculous.

Queensland rugby league great Billy Slater has been confirmed as the coach of the Queensland Maroons for the next two years.

    Key points:
    • Billy Slater replaces Paul Green as Maroons coach following this year's series loss
    • Paul Green had only been in the job for one year
    • Slater says football is his life and he looks forward to inspiring others to "fulfil their dream"

The Dally M and Clive Churchill Medal winner represented Queensland in 31 State of Origin matches over a 15-year career.
The much-anticipated decision to replace Paul Green as Maroons coach was confirmed by Queensland Rugby League this morning.
Slater, who has been working as a Maroons selector and mentor, said it was a great honour to be named coach.

^Great stuff, once they learn more about the game they'll be ditching those Saints and Dogs jerseys though if they want to see their team win often! CBUS is a fantastic facility, it's a shame for Gold Coast footy fans that the Titans have always been a pretty shit team though..

The Rabbitohs beat the Sea Eagles easily mate.

A bit of a surprise at the score line.

Seems the Panthers have gone off the boil but you never know.

Game is on the Sunday, at Lang Park ... assuming Covid doesn't interrupt regular transmission.

Earlier this week the general area when into stage 2 Covid restrictions meaning 75% Stadium capacity.

^ Yes, I'm a huge Benji Fan, so hearts are the Rabbitos

    Penrith are playing increasingly dirty.

Abuse of the number of times the trainer is allowed on the field.

Bennent complained about the Penrith Trainers on field.

The latest complaint comes after Wayne Bennett’s heated public feud with Ivan Cleary over the issue of illegal tactics to protect Panthers kicker Nathan Cleary in the lead up to the qualifying final.
Souths reported Knowles entered the field 13 times in Penrith’s clash with the Storm.
NRL rules stipulate trainers are restricted to entering the field of play on three occasions in each half to deliver messages to the players when their team has the ball.
Outside that, they can only access the field when a try is scored, during a video referee decision, to facilitate an interchange, during a time-out called by the referee and during a drop out.
I went to the pre-lim game last Sat with my Boys.

More then once the Penrith Trainer was on the field when not allowed.
It's my understanding that the Teams trainer is only allowed on the field when the team is attacking.
    (assuming no injured player).

Once, last saturday there was a minor dust-up (off camera) between a Storm and Penrith player and
    the Penrith Trainer intervened.
