    The 2021 Formula One Thread

Three months to kick off. Spain and Brazil haven't agreed their contracts yet. Shame Vietnam never got there, as I mentioned earlier, the driving force behind it was arrested for some other political scandal and no-one else is interested.

Looks like two F2 drivers stepping up next season:

"Daniil Kvyat has all but confirmed that Yuki Tsunoda is set to replace him alongside Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri for the 2021 Formula 1 season."

Red Bull has had “constructive” discussions with the FIA and is “close” to concluding a deal to use re-branded Honda units from 2022 onwards, team principal Christian Horner has revealed.

Honda, which supplies both Red Bull and sister team AlphaTauri, shocked the sport when it announced earlier this year it is to pull out of F1 from the end of next year, leaving Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault as F1’s only engine manufacturers.

Red Bull’s ‘Plan A’, however, is to take over the IP of the Honda system in tandem with a hoped-for development freeze until new regulations arrive in 2026 or earlier.

Horner said: “Well, obviously we are very focused on Plan A and Honda have been very accommodating, but nothing is finalised.

“We’ve got constructive discussions going on with Honda and the FIA and I think that we are close to coming to a conclusion.

(Reuters) - Britain’s Callum Ilott will be Ferrari’s Formula One test driver next season, the Italian team said on Tuesday.

Ilott, 22, was Formula Two runner-up to Germany’s Mick Schumacher this year but missed out on a Formula One race seat for 2021. He tested with Ferrari-powered Alfa Romeo in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Schumacher, son of seven times world champion Michael, will race for the Ferrari-powered Haas team while Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda, who finished third in F2, is expected to move up with AlphaTauri.

James Hunt lived life to the full, and died from a heart attack aged 45. Lewis Hamilton is 35, and stands a pretty good chance of surviving beyond the next ten years, if F1 doesn't get him.

I sat in one of Hunt's F1 cars as a small boy, and I can report that it is extremely uncomfortable to sit in an F1 car unless you happen to have buttocks identical to the driver's own.

I'm not sure what's funnier. That vocalneal has to post a three month old bit of mailonline clickbait to try and get attention, or that he's so embarrassed to admit that he reads it he has to hide the source.

I don’t think the source is relevant in this case. It’s just nice to know that Raikkonen has a sense of humour.
The contrast with Hunt, the lovable rogue, and Hamilton, the political protestor and fashionista, could not be more marked.
I think they are both great drivers, despite the high tech developments that might separate them.

Actually I've met Raikkonen twice and I can only assume that he posted that when he was pissed, because sober he is a dour c**t. He does like a swally by all accounts.

Well that's not a good start.

Bahrain is poised to become the new host of the Formula 1 2021 season opener as the Australian Grand Prix is set to be postponed.

Motorsport.com are reporting that due to the continued strict travel restrictions in Australia and Covid-19 cases on the rise again with a new strain of the virus identified, the traditional curtain-raiser in Melbourne is set to be moved back until later in the year.

The Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix is set to be held in November, with organisers saying the COVID-19 pandemic means "it is not feasible" to hold the race in Melbourne in March.

As expected and reported in Post #13....

Bahrain will be ecstatic to host the first one. They may actually allow spectators since they've vaccinated a ton of people.
