    Team radio - Alpine

Alpine: Can I just confirm that we can overtake off the track if we are going round the outside of another car?

Race director: No you can't overtake off the track.

Alpine: Well that's what Raikkonen has just done.

    Race director: Understand.

    Alpine: So that's OK?

Race director: No it's not OK.

Alpine: But it's OK for Raikkonen.

Race director: No, it's not OK for anyone.

Verstappen lost the lead on the start. Then Red Bull undercut the shit out of Mercedes and never looked back.

Spirited drive by Verstappen to stave off Hamilton. Next up is Mexico, a track that Red Bull is quite strong at.

Self-driving race cars reach blistering speed at inaugural race

A team of computer programmers and engineers from a German university have been crowned the inaugural champions of self-driving cars around one of the world's most famous racetracks.

    Key points:
    • Nine teams took part in the first race the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
    • The team from the Technical University of Munich won with an average speed over six laps of 218kph
    • Each car relies on sensors, cameras, radar and GPS, to guide it around the circuit

Setting the record pace over two laps, a team from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) won a $US1 million ($1.34 million) prize in the first Indy Autonomous Challenge, an event dedicated to self-driving cars at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Their car, a Dallara AV-21 used by every team, clocked an average speed of 218kph to win the inaugural event.
Each autonomous car relies on sensors, cameras, radar and GPS to guide the car around the circuit.

Well having watched the race, with two stops I don't think there was a strategy Toto could have come up with that would have won it for Sir Lewis. The Red Bull is just too fast for them at the moment.

    Good.

    Now STFU.

We have five good races to look forward to, lots of points up for grabs and hopefully they won't all be decided by pit stops.

    Mexico
    Brazil
    Qatar
    Saudi Arabia
    Abu Dhabi

Two of those are brand new tracks; Qatar looks a lot like Bahrain although may not have the hills.

Verstappen and his Red Bull seem to be in the ascendency right now, with the next two races favoring his team.
The remaining races are a bit of a lottery.
Engine management, unpredictable weather and Hamiltons lack of focus seem be the key to this years Champion Driver.

All the Hamilton fanboys are pouring on the reverse jinx. He is one lucky break to weaseling his way into another championship. And it would be a shame for the sport.

Mercedes is one lucky break away from sweeping the hybrid era. Shamilton is one lucky break away from 8. And its all thanks to Covid-19. Covid postponed the new regulations for a year. Talk about lucky breaks. The worst part about Covid is that it extended the life of this hybrid era for another year. Enough. New regulations have never been needed more than now.

    AJ Foyt won 7

    Richard Petty won 7
    Dale Earnhardt won 7
    Micheal Schumacher won 7

    Jimmy Johnson won 7

    None of them won 8.

This is the F1 thread for the current season. Schumacher doesn’t count and all the others took part in a simplified race series the tried to prove that big merkin engines could make a car take corners!

You probably don't even know what series they are from. You cranky old duffer. You think AJ Foyt drove a NASCAR don't you. Moron. He drove an Indycar. The same Indy series that F1 champs Nigel Mansel , Mario Andretti & Jacuques Villeneuve raced in.
