Nah... Wellington U21; Hawkes Bay; Manawatu; NZ Sevens.

Played under Dave Rennie in Manawatu incidentally, was highly complimentary of him.

There was a write up today that Ioane's try shouldn't have been disallowed. Contrary to what myself and apparently every commentator on the planet believes the ball does not have to be under control on touchdown. Does that mean the ABs were robbed? Nah... Both teams had the chance to slot a droppie in the dying minutes. Neither side took it so neither side won it.

A player scores a try when he/she: is “holding it and touching the ground with it”; or “by pressing down on it with a hand or hands, arm or arms, or the front of the player’s body from waist to neck”.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

He shoulda tucked it under his arm Jeff Wilson style. That way no earthly force* would be able to dislodge it.

*George Gregan is not of this Earth. Doesn't count.

Watching the news tonight he was just shown as being a showman and it's his style . . . a style that almost lost the ABs a 16 year (?) record and might lose them the 30 year one next week.

    One hopes

    Nonsense.

A player scores a try when he/she: is “holding it and touching the ground with it”; or “by pressing down on it with a hand or hands, arm or arms, or the front of the player’s body from waist to neck”.

Key words higlighted, touching the ground with the ball, or pressing down on it implies control.

Not outstreched fingers breifing glancing off the ball as it bounces away.

Key words higlighted, touching the ground with the ball, or pressing down on it implies control.
It also implies that a player could use another player's arm to apply downward pressure on a ball and claim a try.
I once saw Gregan accidentally score a try in a Super Rugby game. He slipped and fell over the line onto a loose ball. Was it under control? No. Was his body touching the ball and the ground at the same time? Yes. Try awarded.

Point is laws shouldn't imply anything. It should be clear-cut. No confusion. I'd like to see it with the term "under control" added. I'm gonna get my lawyer Ant to recommend a rewrite.

"on touchdown" If you're gonna quote use the full context. I typed that because cbf typing out the full phrase assuming that everyone here was intelligent enough to know they weren't watching the Superb Owl. I was wondering if some Numpty would jump on it. Surprised it was you Banana Hammock.

I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed.

Touchdown by definition means exerting pressure.

The clear mistake made by the touch judge by not signalling the fact Ione stepped into touch during the build up to a NZ try was also important.

Anyway the Wobblies seem to be competitive which is great for this series.

It's obviously not clear cut if it is being debated in the media.

The referee awarded a knock-on so he must have believed Ioane lost contact with the ball before the ball hit the ground.

    From the article . . .
Instead, the actual rules are as follows: A player scores a try when he/she: is “holding it and touching the ground with it”; or “by pressing down on it with a hand or hands, arm or arms, or the front of the player’s body from waist to neck”.
    I like your persistence, though.
