Learn something new every day...I didn't know it was a fair weather only race.

How's it going, no news here yet...probably get a paragraph or two in the morning.

Takuma Sato earned his second Indianapolis 500 championship Sunday, holding off Scott Dixon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

They circle the track at speeds as high as 231mph/372kph. If they ran in the rain it would be a bloodbath.

I see an F1 driver won it again, and not even a good one at that.

Those seppos are shit, they haven't had a decent driver since 1978.

Different cars, rules and tracks. I enjoy both although when it comes to motor sports, I prefer Moto GP.

Because the shitty cars keep breaking down. FFS they only have to go in circles.

Let's hope you don't turn it into another of your shit sports with breaks for adverts every five fucking minutes.

Is the civil war in American indycar even over ? It was CART vs IRL. I seen the last CART race in Edmonton. Western canada has no indycar race now. I used to go to Vancouver indy as well. Last one was 2004. Race days were always a good atmosphere. Lots of sexy women and beer.

    Go Hélio Castroneves

F1 at night in Singapore is on my bucket list.

Actually I think it was more like this. It was probably more exciting too.

CART lost and went bankrupt. A sad deal because the IRL never should have happened as CART was the better series. I also used to go watch the street race in Vancouver every year. Hell of a good time always got piss drunk and sunburned.

Same as F1 top speed then...(372.6km/h). Obviously not in the rain but it's just another setup and reduced visibility.

What is it, a track for those with special-needs?

Is turning right too much for Americans to learn?

Though that said, the fun and carry on at races does look more fun that the slightly stuffy F1 meets.

The curves are banked at 9°12'. What speed can you take the bend without having to steer the car?

Not sure about not having to steer the car but the corner speed is 225 mph (ca. 362 km/h) during qualifying for the faster cars.

I was at the F1 race there in 2002 and the track is just enormous. There is a nine hole golf course in the middle of it. The F1 cars ran the track backwards and were diverted down intto the infield road coarse section. The sound of the Ferrari V10's coming down that straight into the dogleg corner was incredible.

It was a Ferrari one two finish, Shumi followed by Rubens.

^ The bank angle gives a frictionless speed of just under 45mph, fine for 1911 but not for today's speeds.

Far better would be to have a varying bank, up to 75° (200mph is about 73°). Now that would be fun.

Daytona is banked at 31 degrees I think that is as close as you will get.

^ The radius of the turn is greater at Daytona as well, giving a frictionless turn speed of just over 100mph. That means you can go round the track at that speed without having to steer into the turn. It must make it both exhilarating and fooking scary at the same time.
