This strikes me as a bit absurd. They won't show behind-closed-door games in the UK.

If that doesn't drive up traffic to the IPTV mob, I don't know what will.

An extra 20 games will be shown live on TV during the 2020/21 Premier League season, it has been confirmed.

However, there will be no more blanket coverage of matches available to fans despite fixtures taking place behind closed doors at the start of the season.

Every Premier League game was shown on TV when the 2019/20 campaign restarted in June from its coronavirus suspension.

Supporters were banned from watching their teams in the stadiums.

Under current proposals, fans may be allowed back in from October but even then numbers will be limited.

This leaves fans facing the prospect of being unable to watch their teams’ matches unless they are picked by broadcasters with the season due to get underway on September 12. The
full fixture schedule was released on Thursday morning.

The Premier League has confirmed that an additional 20 matches will be shown by the rights holders, taking the total from 200 up to 220 for the 2020/21 season.

    The
Daily Mail report that clubs tried to obtain permission to live stream games that would not be broadcast, as EFL clubs do with the iFollow service.

This was blocked by Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon Prime – who paid a collective £5billion over three years for the rights.

To compensate, those broadcasters will show extra games next season with Sky getting an additional 12, BT Sport an extra six and two on Amazon Prime.

There will also be an additional two midweek rounds of fixtures to be played across the weeks commencing January 11 and 18, and the second round on the week commencing May 10.

A number of games during Project Restart were shown on free-to-air TV but no such matches will be available to fans for the 2020/21 campaign.

That's going to make a dent. $20+ million lost to each club unless they can resell them.

The Premier League, the leading U.K. soccer division, has terminated its massive $747 million TV rights contract with China’s PPTV two years early due to unpaid payments, it said Thursday.

The move takes effect immediately, meaning the Chinese streaming platform PPTV can no longer show live games.

The 2016 deal signed between the Premier League and PPTV was the League’s largest overseas TV deal ever at the time, and gave the Chinese firm rights to live content over three seasons from 2019 to 2022 through free-to-air and subscription distribution. The termination of the contract just one season in comes in the wake of British reports from August that the China side had failed to pay a $212 million installment due in March.

“The Premier League confirms that it has today terminated its agreements for Premier League coverage in China with its licensee in that territory,” the League said in a statement.

PPTV is owned by Chinese commercial giant Suning Holdings, known in the West for buying majority shares in 2016 of the Italian soccer club Inter Milan. Its subsidiary PP Sports holds exclusive rights to four other major European leagues: La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1.

League sources said that the termination was for financial, not political reasons, according to The Guardian. Nevertheless, the move comes amidst a backdrop of rising tensions between China and U.K. after the U.K. decided to ban use of 5G equipment made by Chinese national champion telecom firm Huawei earlier this year.

If it's because the pictures don't look good I have a brilliant idea: Green Screen the whole seating area.

Then you can have them playing in a pit of hungry crocodiles, a lava-filled volcanic crater, or even a seedy Bangkok go-go bar.

    The options are endless.

    I'm a genius.

Added: Maybe that's why they invented that Quibi. They can show whole episodes of some series while Man Utd players are getting in the refs face even though he's only waiting for a VAR decision to be overturned in their favour.

Fortunately they can use any colour as long as it isn't on the pitch.

Phew, I thought my brilliant idea was going down in flames there for a minute.

So along with Pogba, and presumably a few others.

Manchester City players Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have both tested positive for coronavirus.
what a joke this season is gonna be.

At what stage does an entire first team have to isolate and cannot play? Postpone the matches until the end of the season and push Euro 2020 to the summer of 2022, perhaps in Qatar as a warm up for their December World Cup?

At least team's younger, local academy players will get some game time.

Not Man City, obviously, but teams with local academy players.

I see the season starts on the 12th but Manchester Dhabi's first game is 21st so they hadn't actually started training apparently.

Do the teams that played in the Champions (mini) League get a late start?

This will cheer British viewers up.

The Premier League has announced that all 28 games played in September will be broadcast live in the UK.
The matches will be broadcast via the top-flight's existing broadcasting partners Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime Video and BBC.

Sky Sports and BT Sport got first pick and have already selected 17 games for live broadcast for the first three match rounds of the new campaign.

Sky Sports will now broadcast an additional six, BT Sport a further three and BBC and Amazon Prime Video one each.

A statement read: "The Premier League is working on a step-by-step approach, while monitoring the developments regarding the League's number one priority of getting fans back into full stadia as soon as possible, with safety always being our priority."

It was incredible that they were ever thinking otherwise.

The only argument against televising all the games live in England has always been that it would hit attendances.

With no crowds allowed in then...durr!

    Silly twats.

^^ Had an ad pop up for BeIn Sports App. Amazingly cheap deal.

    1 week - 59b.
    1 month - 99b .
    The whole Season - 699b.

Until you look, and despite the PL players in the photos, doesn't actually have the PL anymore.

The PFA have got a sense of humour then.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne (29) has won the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) men’s Players’ Player of the Year award.
