Melbourne Storm nab 14-point win over South Sydney Rabbitohs in NRL

    Rugby League 2020 - REBOOTED-12327936-4x3-xlarge-jpg

The Melbourne Storm have beaten South Sydney 22-8, becoming one of the only teams to actually win a tight game since the NRL returned with its new set of rules and interpretations.

    Really enjoyed that game.

'Clunky' in attack and the Storm made a lot of un-Melbourne type of errors.

Rabbitohs were solid ... a few more calls going their way and the ending may have been different.

Tight game until the final minutes when the Storm scored a late try.

    Both Hookers shone IMHO

    ---

Oh, TisMe ... great to watch the Tigers last week and a deserved, come from behind win!
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

One Ref and the current change to the ruck infringement ... "Six to go/Six more Tackles"

    ---

The Melbourne Storm have beaten South Sydney 22-8, becoming one of the only teams to actually win a tight game since the NRL returned with its new set of rules and interpretations.

    Key points:
    • The average winning margin since the league returned has been 23.1 points, almost double the average in the first two rounds
    • Melbourne scored twice in the final 15 minutes to blow the lead out to 14 points after a scrappy clash
    • Earlier, the Panthers hammered the Warriors 26-0 in Campbelltown

Blowouts and late routs become a hallmark of the 'new' NRL, with the Tigers' 28-16 win over the Sharks the smallest margin of victory in rounds three and four so far.

Through the first 10 games since the resumption, the average winning margin was a whopping 23.1 points, including three wins to nil, and as yet no team has won a game by fewer than 12 points (or two converted tries). That is compared to an average point differential of 12.6 points through the first 16 games of the season.

And while Friday's win was a hotly contested affair, a late Justin Olam try pushed the margin out to 14, meaning last Sunday's 14-14 draw between the Panthers and Knights remains the only game that was not decided by a healthy margin since round three kicked off.

Canterbury Bulldogs banned from training after club legend Terry Lamb was caught breaching coronavirus restrictions

    Rugby League 2020 - REBOOTED-12324078-3x2-xlarge-jpg

    Key points:
    • The Bulldogs have apologised for Terry Lamb's COVID breach, and will not be allowed to train until his test results come back
    • Lamb is a club ambassador, but not on the list of 50 players and staff who are cleared to attend training and games
    • The Bulldogs are due to face St George Illawarra on Monday

The Doggies can't train, the Dragons can't win ... should be an interested game to try and bet.

Just watching that game now ... http://www.sportstream.live/en/playe.../5edb52a56fafc

Just watched an interview with Matt Moylan ... he passed on the 2nd attempt.

Apparently they get 3 attempts before they are stood down from playing the game.

UPDATE:- ALL PLAYERS HAVE BEEN CLEARED TO PLAY

NRL game between Bulldogs and Roosters postponed because of COVID-19 scare

The Roosters’ NRL match against the Bulldogs has been postponed because of a COVID-19 scare.
Channel 9’s Danny Weidler broke the news, reporting the decision had been made because the child of a Bulldogs star goes to a school that has had a coronavirus scare of its own.

The Daily Telegraph’sPhil Rothfield identified the player in question as Bulldogs prop Aiden Tolman, whose child attends Laguna Street Public School in Caringbah in Sydney’s south, where a teacher tested positive for COVID-19.
The Roosters-Bulldogs game, scheduled for 4.05pm today at Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta, has been pushed back and will go ahead at 7pm tomorrow night if Tolman returns a negative test.
In addition to Tolman, Weidler has reported the entire Bulldogs team may also need to undergo tests.
St George and Cronulla, who were slated to face off at 6.30pm tonight at Campbelltown Stadium, will now play at 4.05pm and the game will be broadcast on Channel 9.
Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) chairman Peter V’landys said players’ safety was the league’s top priority.
“We’re not prepared to risk it,” V’landys said. “The health of the players come first.
“There’s a very remote risk of infection within the Bulldogs squad. To ensure there is no risk at all, the player will be tested today and the game delayed until tomorrow to ensure the test results have returned.
“I want to congratulate the Bulldogs for swiftly informing the NRL.
“I want to thank our broadcast partners for their assistance, at very short notice, in changing the schedule. The changes will ensure our fans will still be able to watch a game on free to air television this afternoon.”

EXCLUSIVE: Bulldogs Roosters clash postponed until tomorrow night. Due to Bulldogs player having a child at a school with a Corona Virus scare. Player to go for test. @NRLonNine@9NewsSyd

All students at Laguna Street Public School have been instructed to self-isolate after a staff member tested positive to COVID-19. The school will also stop on-site learning until June 24 following the diagnosis, according to the NSW education department.
“The staff member has had contact with most students at the school during the period they may have been infectious,” a statement from the department said on Saturday night.
This is the first major setback the NRL has encountered since it successfully relaunched its season late last month after a lengthy hiatus because of the global pandemic.
Its planned restart date of May 28 was deemed too ambitious by some but V’landys ploughed on, determined to make it work and the first two weekends went off without a hitch.
It was a huge victory for rugby league as it enjoyed clear air in Australia, returning two weeks before the AFL got back underway on Thursday night.

Sea Eagles beat the Raiders today, but it looks like it has cost them Tommy Turbo for the next 6 weeks with another hammy.
If I remember right, Manly didn't win much when they lost him last year with the same problem.

^ not sure how they plan to tweak the rules. My first reaction is"no, no, no." Interesting to see what the organisers will come up with that works for both codes.

Yeah it'll be tricky, some hybrid form or other I'd imagine.

Any contests for the ball and the RL boys are gonna get utterly wrecked.

Can't see how they can hybrid the rules. If it was NRL rules the score would be 100-2 and Union rules would be 100-3.

^They spoke about it just now on The Matty Johns show and it's been done before in England. Sounds shit to me, they play Rugby League rules in their own half and Union rules in the opposition half

They also showed footage of Wigan RL playing Bath RU, they played 2 games (1 under each codes rules) and under RL rules Wigan were 52-0 up at half time and down 33-0 at the break under RU rules. They're 2 very different games, this sounds like a "lets fill a stadium and cash-in" circus. Pass.

    Oh, I've played Fugby.

1 half Aussie rules Football and 1 half Rugby.

It's alright to play, essentially two games.

North Queensland Cowboys part ways with Paul Green as club's poor start to 2020 season costs premiership coach

    Rugby League 2020 - REBOOTED-12472322-16x9-xlarge-jpg

Paul Green has coached his last game for the North Queensland Cowboys, announcing his departure from the club he has coached for seven years.

    Key points
    • Paul Green's Cowboys haven't played finals since the 2017 grand final loss to Melbourne
    • After a 3-7 start to 2020, Green and the Cowboys agreed now is the time to "pass the baton"
    • Assistant coach Josh Hannay will take charge of the Cowboys for the remainder of the 2020 season

Green coached the Cowboys to the 2015 premiership and took the team to the 2017 grand final, which it lost to the Melbourne Storm.

Green is the third NRL coach to lose his job this season after Dean Pay left the Bulldogs and Stephen Kearney left the Warriors.

Assistant coach Josh Hannay will take charge of the Cowboys for the remainder of the 2020 season "while the club undertakes a thorough recruitment process".
