Tony Lewis, who helped create Duckworth-Lewis formula for rain-affected cricket games, dies at 78

    Today's Sports News-12119220-3x2-large-jpg

Tony Lewis, co-inventor of the Duckworth-Lewis method for settling weather-affected cricket matches, has died aged 78. Key points:

    • Tony Lewis and Frank Duckworth devised the Duckworth-Lewis formula to settle rain-affected cricket matches
    • Prior to 1999, such matches were resolved using the average run-rate
    • The new method, later known as Duckworth-Lewis-Stern, calculated a new target for chasing teams based on a formula accounting for wickets remaining and overs in hand

Former university lecturer Lewis, together with mathematician Frank Duckworth, devised the formula that was first used in match between Zimbabwe and England in 1997 and adopted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1999.

I would imagine people back in Blighty with Sky sports and BT sports packages are still paying their monthly subscriptions.

I know you're trying to help Dodgy Dave, but that belongs in the RIP Sporting Heroes thread.

I feel sorry for the people dependent on the money from sport, they will lose millions whilst the ordinary people just few hundreds or thousands...

So apparently Premier League players don't want to take a 30% pay cut because "it will hurt the NHS" according to the PFA.

    Honestly, what a bunch of c u n t s.

I was nosing thru the podcasts and came across Rampaging Roy Slaven and HG Nelson's return "Bludging on the Blindside."

Fantastic to hear the return of Australia's most incisive and sporting commentators - I had a listen to this weeks show - and as usual the big topics were covered - rugby league state of origin during the COVID crisis and the Masterchef-cooking with turps-paelo cooking conundrum.
They are far more than just commentators - influencers.
