Victoria shows why they are AFL world champions

A pre season AFL match to raise money for bushfire victims attracted a reasonable crowd of 50,000 people. Victoria played against the All Stars who were a team of players made up from the other football states. The silky skills of many of the best players in the competition were on display in an entertaining match which showed why the Victorians are world AFL champions.
Watch and enjoy highlights of the best football code in the world. I did watch the whole game and the All stars gave the mighty Vics a good run for their money but the last quarter the Vics played superb football to run out comfortable winners.

    World Champions?
    What other countries play AFL?
    Serious question.

The AFL is a good game. Back in my Darwin days (for 3 months), getting pissed and watching the games at the bar with locals was great fun. RL is a good game. Cricket is a good game. The Convicts have some good sport going on...

It is by far the major football code in Australia followed by Rugby league, then Soccer with Rugby union a long way behind. It is played in Canada England the United states plus some of the pacific islands where it is a minor sport. I believe even the Netherlands plays AFL.
It's a bit like Rugby. Rugby is only the major sport in one country, New Zealand where the entire population of the country is less than the population of Melbourne. In the other countries where Rugby is played Soccer is the dominant football code, whereas NFL and soccer dwarf Rugby in the USA.
Rugby has a world cup despite being mainly a minor football code in a few countries and not played at all in the majority of countries. On the other side find a team in the world that is better at AFL. Victoria is the best so they are world champions.
Hope you didnt watch the video Harry, I'd hate you to have a feinting spell. It is not meant for people like you. It's a game for real men.
Well if looking at mens shorts floats your boat TG you go for it. Live and let live I say. I should have twigged you being in the LGBT (Lesbian Guzzi Bi-sexual Transexual) community and all.

You should do a bit of research before you spout more bollocks.

Peanut hugging is played in 120 countries and has 8 million players.

    Meanwhile....

Australian Football League has official affiliation agreements with 13 international governing bodies blah blah blah all convict expats blah blah blah Australia is the only nation that actively engages in this sport at a professional level.

Wales, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and even South Africa might disagree with you on that one.

Also the RWC is the third largest sporting event in the world behind the soccer equivalent and Olympics and has over 6,000,000 players worldwide [Edit: or 8 m according to Harry]

    So yeah nah.

I don't mind watching AFL. Golf and figure skating are two sports that don't get my eyeballs.

I'd rather watch women's beach volleyball than a load of bogans running around punting a rugby ball with their forearms.

Most of my Welsh mates grew up playing it at school but have always followed a football team too.

Interesting article here from a few years ago: Welsh rugby versus Welsh football: Which sport matters most to the people of Wales? - Wales Online

I don't mind rugby if truth be told. I haven't got the foggiest what's going on most of the time, but I enjoy union more than league, which is actually more favoured where I'm from.

A little, in fact the Gaelic Football association and the AFL have a joint series of games each year.

    So yeah nah.

Geez you had to dig pretty deep there Ant. Soccer is the much bigger game in South africa for starters, as it is the most popular football code played by the majority of Black south africans. Rugby was seen as a game mostly played by the small minority of Afrikaners and white people.
Wales? Fiji? Samoa? Tonga? Those four have a combined population smaller than Melbourne let alone Victoria.
Afl teams Richmond and Collingwood have more paid up members than the population of Tonga, in fact more people go to the AFL Grand Final than there are Tongans.
Sadly, Rugby doesnt even get a mention in the top 10 most attended sports leagues in the world. If it was done per capita AFL in Australia would be World Champions in that too by a country mile.
You will be pleased to know though that Rugby Union participation in Australia is just below table tennis at no 37 and on a brighter note it does make it above rowing.....Just.

I know you Kiwi lawyers take some convincing (my mate is one) so here is some facts.

You don't have to convince me that AFL is popular in Victoria, I already know that, but the point is it can't touch rugby on world-wide basis.

    It's oval-shaped apples cf. oranges.

^You could be right, I get them mixed up sometimes. Which is the one with uncountable stoppages, horrendous ball control skills, and penalties every minute or two?

AFL is a thoroughly entertaining game. Actually the Vic/ All Stars game- while it is not taken particularly seriously- is very entertaining, because it is played openly. A good starter, if you want to check out the biggest game down unda. In Rugby League, by contrast, the State of Origin is taken very seriously indeed! Anyway- Go Port!

errr... not a sports person are you Harry. It is not a Rugby ball, it is a different shape as is an american football. You would've known that if you knew something about sport, although probably difficult for you with no football background in your childhood, especially as mummy no doubt kept sending the sports teacher a note with,
"My Harry is a bit too delicate to play sport and also he is so shite at it the other boys tease him and make him cry. He can play volleyball, as long as it's only in the girls team the boys in 3rd grade are a bit too rough for him as he is only 17".
