Brian Glanville, the influential football writer who covered the game for seven decades, has died at the age of 93.
Glanville was the football correspondent for the Sunday Times for 30 years and contributed to World Soccer magazine for five decades.
His first book, with Arsenal winger Cliff Bastin, was published in 1950, while his most recently published works included obituaries of Manchester United forward Denis Law and Northern Ireland winger Peter McParland earlier this year.
Glanville was perhaps best known for his book 'The Story of the World Cup', first published in 1993 and regularly updated since. He was also a novelist, and in all wrote 31 books.
News of his death was announced by his son Mark late on Friday evening.
The Sports Journalists Association said in a statement: "The SJA sends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Brian Glanville, the 'doyen of football writers' whose many books - including the essential 'The Story of the World Cup' - continue to bring so much insight, knowledge and joy to fans everywhere. RIP Brian."

A much sought after manager.
This is a sign of aging as I remember, like yesterday, being in uni and turning around to the 2 lads behind me and chatting about the mid-week games, and precisely about how unbelievably good this young kid Fabregas was for Arsenal against Juve in the CL, while still a teenager.
This game.

Vieira had gone to Juve for I think 30 million the summer before, and the pundits were joking that they bought the wrong midfielder. The handsome young teenager was that good.
It was, all in all, a brilliant time for football.
Fergie v Wenger was still going and heated.
Jose had just arrived on the scene and won the PL. Tactics were changing from a plain 4-4-2
English teams were filling up the semi-final slots of the CL almost every year.
Liverpool had just won it.
Barca and Spain were getting into their tiki-taka phase and taking the world by storm.
Messi and Ronaldinho, Iniesta and Xavi v Zidane, Becks, Figo, Ronaldo et al at Real.
The Italian side that waltzed through teams to winning the world cup, and a Milan side that can still be instantly reeled off today.
England had their Golden Generation and CR7 was starting to show just how amazing he really could be.
Just a magical time for football fans.
And now that fresh faced kid, the teenager just starting out and leaving people in awe, is a fully bearded high level manager sought by top European teams.
Time goes too fast.
Stay safe people.
Ed.

And then we move onto Cantona, Solskjaer, Henry, Bergkamp, Klinsmann, Vialli, Viduka etc etc
