It is a valid point that he has had his chance and not got close enough to Max. Has the car been set up to what Max wants and needs to the detriment of Albon? Has Albon had enough time to adapt? How big is Albon’s commercial pull in SE Asia? It is getting harder to make the case but I would still have him run into first part of 2021 then make a decision as i think with a longer stint and a pre-season his talent will come through.

Albon has been in a good car and should have been getting fourth every race (3rd when Max is out).

    He simply hasn't performed.

I think if you stuck Perez in that car he'd get a lot more points for the team (and as a driver). I'm sure Red Bull are aware of that.

And if, as Horner said, there is no slot for Albon back in the B-team, then it's a year on the bench (which could be longer. A lot longer).

So it's all about whether or not Red Bull think Albon can improve.

Why should a Thai get a seat anyway.

FP3 has thrown up some surprises.

Mad Max leads Albon on the front row.

The Renaults have the second row.

Hammy is in 6th, perhaps he's feeling the effects of the 'rona.

Bottas is 9th, and he doesn't have that excuse.

    Quali in about 90 minutes.

Will stick this (and the race) on HD Prime. What channel is best for F1 now?

Would prefer not to have any American commentators.

    What is "HD Prime"?

    Sky F1 coverage is best.

Mad Max pulled out an amazing lap to pip Bottas (2) and the recovering Hammy (3) to pole, with Lando getting a cracking 4th.

Should be an interesting start because it is not one of Mad Max's strongest points and he can't cover both Mercs.

Although it is short trip to Turn 1 and there is a twisty section of track before they can get up a real head of steam.

Max Verstappen has never led a lap in Abu Dhabi.

    Here's his chance....

    And he's done it.

And remarkably all 20 cars completed it too.

Well that just handed constructors advantage to McLaren. 3 million quid apparently.

You can see why those Racing Point boys look so depressed. A chunk of that was probably a bonus.

That's the one I watched. Was like watching F1 on BBC and ITV decades ago. Which is a good thing.

HDPrime is a True Move owned App/Program. 380 baht for 30 days of all global channels streamed live at HD/FHD depending.

They are talking about putting Lewis on softs but I think it's too late for that.

    1. Mad Max
    2. Bottas
    3. Hammy
    4. Albon

McLaren have broken out the champagne.
I think Racing Point are drinking bitter.

During a qualifying simulation run towards the end of the day, Alonso put in a lap of 1m36.333 seconds – which was faster than both Renault duo Esteban Ocon and Daniel Ricciardo produced in qualifying last weekend.

    So? It's a simulator.

Or if you mean testing, it's irrelevant because neither of those did a Q3 run.

But he's probably better than Ricciardo, so it will be an improvement.

Added: He said “It was great to feel the modern cars and experience what they can do"

How long as he been out?!

There is a difference between a simulation and a simulator. Also nothing about Q3. A 1m36.333 wouldn't have got him into Q3 either. Just a gnat's willy faster than Ocon.

    Please try and keep up.

I've never heard testing called "simulation". It's testing.

And you still haven't explained why him going faster in a test than the other two did in Quali when they never had Q3 setup is somehow supposed to indicate something. I.e. if he set a fast lap on softs with no fuel and they did as well, it's a valid comparison, otherwise it means jack shit.

Do you think he's going to be a contender?
