The ABC has the front page link to the article saying 'unnecessary' and 'gross'

'Unnecessary' and 'gross': USA criticised for 13-0 thrashing of Thailand at Women's World Cup

    https://www.abc. net.au/news/

What a weird statement. Would a male team ever be censured for putting the boot on the throat?

    Utter garbage.

The article title itself does not say this but the issue is raised in the article.

Actually for the good of the sport it wouldn't have hurt them to take their foot off the gas a bit.

Scoring 13 doesn't really prove much more than scoring five to be honest, other than that Thailand are inept; the hammering will do untold damage to the Thai team both in terms of self confidence and public attitude.

Added: And they have had fuck all support from their own country, and this result isn't exactly going to encourage it.

Man City have been doing it for the last two seasons, the bastards. But yeah at. 4 or 5-0 its time to take your best players off wind the clock down by passing it around and save yourself for the next game.

    That's a bit odd.

I was in Oz when they beat American Samoa 31-0, the largest win ever in an international match, and I don't remember the ABC shitting on it.

That was equally pointless. I think Samoa only had something like two of their regular players and stuck boots on anyone who happened to be available.

From the article Mr Looper was referring to ...

USA lays down Women's World Cup marker with 13-0 thrashing of Thailand

World Cup favourite the USA has thrashed Thailand 13-0 to lay a marker down to the rest of the competition in its opening match in Riems, north-east France.

    Key points:

    • The USA recorded the biggest ever Women's World Cup victory
    • Alex Morgan scored five goals for the world number one side in the 13-0 rout
    • Some pundits suggested the US should have 'pulled back', while others say the players are not to blame

But some pundits have criticised the American players for both their ruthlessness in dishing out such a defeat, and excessive celebrations late in the game as the goals piled up.

Former Canada player and broadcaster on Canadian network TSN Kaylyn Kyle said she was "disgusted" at the way the US players conducted themselves, while commentator Rob Stone suggested they should have "pulled back" once the match was in the bag.

The ABC just reported the facts and left the commentary/analysis to others.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

If they hadn't celebrated so much, more time would have been available to score more goals.

I hope it hasn't destroyed the morale of the Thai team too much. Taking a point from the two games left would be a major achievement.

    ^ What da ya expect.

Down under, that bottle is the right way up

It was before I was born that a team came from 2-0 down to win the game.
Don'y know if that a woman's world cup stat, just what I've heard.

Plus Brazil haven't been beaten (regular round) for yonks, something like 24 years.

That said, one of the Matilda's goals was a 50/50 call ... reviewed under the VAR and given.

'Suck on that one': Fired-up Matildas put Brazil to the sword

Just because they are girls does not mean you should not revel in your opponents' pain and laugh as you lick the tears from their cheeks!

The third goal was an obvious offside.

It seems the women referees are as shit as the players.

What a pile of shit; trust Dil to be at the head of it.

Women's football is absolutely atrocious and that FC Dallas under 15's boys team beat the USA women's team 5-2 tells you all you need to know about this rubbish.

The Copa America starts tonight. I suggest turning your attention there for some proper football, you bunch of bad bad wrong 'uns.

Not a bad goal for that level tho.

Were the Argentinian midfield and right backs washing their hair?
