    English Football: The Championship

So, Bristol City give Leicester a bloody nose.

Can Ipswich go up as Champions?

West Brom currently 1-1 against our bogey team Milwall.

It's really warming up in this league.

    Milwall 1 West Brom 1

We'll take that against a team we always find difficult.

Second half we were worth the point.

    Overall, a fair result.

We ain't as good as Burnley were last season, though. And look how they're doing now.

Swichips top of the league (for a couple of hours at least)!

4,500 of them made the trip to Blackburn according to the commentator.

All made up with the result, of course.

And then they get into the Premiership and get twatted 4 and 5-0 each week.

Great for the bean counters, but not so great as a fan.

The championship is more interesting than the premier league.

    We've won 8 of the last 9...

The table has a nice look about it. Seven tough games to go.

Leicester should be deducted points this season for their outrageous legal cheating - refusing to abide by PL rules or EPL rules, hoping to get back up having overspent then get a points deduction down the line. They have a quality set of players, so it's surprising to see them lose so many games recently.

Leeds have a good attacking lineup and should end the season near the top.

I reckon Southampton are out of the top two race, but will dangerous in the playoffs.

West Brom have looked pretty solid all season, just needed more goals.

Ipswich have scored plenty of goals, but let in far too many... I still don't think we'll go up, our squad isn't good enough, and there are a couple of tough games upcoming. But, they have done excellently this season.

Can Bristol City go on a winning streak until the end of the season and get the final playoff place? Hmmm.... probably not.

^ Seven games to go... that's 21 points on offer. A winning streak would put City firmly in the playoffs.

Sadly, it's almost certainly too late in the day.

Hopefully Karma will continue to exact its revenge.

^ I suspect you're right. It's blatant cheating on their part though.

We live in hope, Mendip - I'd like to see it.

My prediction is that Ipswich get around 95 points this season, but don't go up. Maybe that'd be a record? At home to Southampton early in the week then away to the Norwichers next Saturday, so a couple of tough games.

And Birmingham stay out of the relegation zone only on goal difference.

    What a farce.

It is such a good, competitive league and it's difficult to argue with that.

I doubt the standards have ever been higher.

An extremely tough league to find yourself in and as good as many top tier leagues in Europe.

The quality isn't there, but it's a competitive league with good games to watch.

There's a fight tonight with a heavyweight ITFC supporter, I think.

    Fabio Waverley, is it?

There really should be a section of the forum dedicated to East Anglian Sport.

This guy says he has done the maths and:

Leicester squad cost £400 million. Extra financial benefit in the form of parachute payments this season = £45 million. &, they still f'kin cheated their accounts, so they can avoid punishment this season...

Ipswich squad cost under £10 million. No parachute payments.

I suspect that if Leicester don't go up this season then players will leave (probably on relatively low transfer fees because Leicester just won't be able to pay the wages), they will get penalty fines/points next season and will be totally f'ked. But, if they do go up, get the PL $$$ then they're getting gravy. The owners are taking a big risk with the club's future.

Another busy night tonight in the championship.

    West Brom face Watford.

Never seems to be a easy fixture, but this time Watford are recovering from being managed by Valerian Ismael.

    Lei 1 Nor 1 after 55 minutes.

Leicester are all over them, though.

    I wouldn't mind them winning.
