It's a cliche, and of course we want to win trophies year after year, but the most important thing for us is entertainment. It is an entertainment industry at the end of the day.

Van Gaal won us an FA Cup, but his football was the very worst I've ever seen. Unfortunately, we can't all combine the football of Ron Atkinson with the pragmatism of Sir Alex, but more nights like this will do in the meantime (and maybe a Cup too ).

Solskjaer’s great entertainers thrill Old Trafford but lack grander purpose | Manchester United | The Guardian

One day, these hacks will start to understand this and cease with their embarrassing anti-Ole nonsense.

BBC Sport goes back to 23 October 2011, the day Manchester City beat rivals Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford, and Mario Balotelli revealed his infamous 'Why Always Me?' T-shirt.

While a match has a pulse, Solskjaer’s Manchester United will still believe | Ole Gunnar Solskjaer | The Guardian

In one sense, it is the essence of United: the swashbuckling, the entertainment. There is no doubt that comeback wins, particularly those driven by late goals, are more special. And what is football if not to provide enjoyment, escapism? There was not too much of that at United under David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and José Mourinho. Savour the good times. Live for the moment.

It is the manager’s curse that when the team wins, it is because of the players and when they lose, it is on him. Solskjær has plenty of outstanding individuals but he has to enjoy a measure of credit for when he provides the platform for them to express themselves. Bruno Fernandes against Atalanta was a good example. The playmaker missed so many passes in the first half but he knew he had the backing to continue to take risks, to seek the moves that could turn the tide if they came off. This comes from Solskjær. It was Fernandes’s wonderful assist for Marcus Rashford that sparked the fightback. The Portuguese picked up a knock and is a doubt for Liverpool.

United diehards are conflicted. They have a manager they love, against whom they will not turn and who provides a promise of glory in the style they seek. Liverpool are in freewheeling form and yet those United fans know their team can carry the fight to them – if every player does his job.

Equally, the worry is that the glorious madness of the Solskjær era is not the basis for a consistent title push; that giving the opposition a head start or room to play is untenable. United have been too loose at the back for too long – they have kept one clean sheet in 20 attempts, with Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw not yet firing this season. What supporters would give for a bit of control in games, a little comfort. It has been too erratic, with it being anyone’s guess which United will turn up.

    What's with the negative vibes?

    Legend is at the wheel!

Shaw and Maguire can handle Salah, Firmino and Mane!

    Ronaldo hatric!

    7-0 to Utd at home

Ole gets a bronze statue outside OT.

Like Chelsea, Chitty we hope you're gettiing plenty, if still deep trawling and those United lasses must be gagging for a bit of pleasure , plus the added benefit of coming on a Ronaldino top?

Now now lads, play the ball and not the man.
Cy plays a vital role in my defence, he reminds me I've drunk too much to post.

West Bromwich Albion lke all teams has ups and downs but in a previous incarnation had teh pleasure to see Tony Brown Cyrille Regis, in an era of tough tackles , heavy pitches and heavy balls (or was that just me) ?

WBA also were graced he late lamented Geoff Astle, a stunning player in his prime , who made a second career with Badiel and Skinners footie show unplanned probably the best and funniest football show ever up beynd where Saint and Greavsie were allowed.I never saw Ron Atkinson or Laurie Cunningham live but they too were fine players.

My team the blues are temporarily having a good run embarrasingly subsidsed by foreign money like most top teams. Most of my life they won zilch, so lets not knock Cy for being loyal , better than wearing aplastic replica kit made in Chunese sweat shop and rooting for Munjestah Oohited or Newcastle-ar -Akbar n'est-ce pa?

We'll never go back to 11 quid a week teams where 1o of a total squad worth price of one house and a foreign player like George Best, Charlie Cook or the inimitable Denis Law all of whom could run rings around teh overpaid irons of today.
