For a second string turnout, looking overall quite good. VdBeek showing some nice touches, the two kids Amad and Elonga have some flair, and James showing his pace in an unaccustomed left side. Matic however, in spite of his distribution skills, his lack of pace is very evident. Great player, but time to go. The euphoria with the emergence of Henderson in goal, whilst he still has great promise, underlines the gap with DeGea in overall quality. Telles at left back is a problem, not because of his skill or fitness, only through the resurgence of Shaw. Nice postion to be in, having two great Left Backs. I wonder how many of those on the pitch are thinking they are showcasing their talents in case they're moved on.
A word on Juan Mata, an outstanding professional and genuine good guy. If this is his last game for United, good luck wherever he goes, they will be lucky to have him.
Totally agree regarding Matic (I believe he's going to the footballers retirement home in Italy with Mourinho) and your other points too. We've done ok so far today, but you saw the difference when we put our 2nd team out last week against Leicester compared to what City can put out.
I'm surprised Mjebri isn't getting a run out today.
What a move and miss from James!
And maybe at least one of his new team mates will sign up to his fantastic 'Common Goal' initiative, unlike at United apparently.
The 31-year-old said Klopp's decision to join Common Goal made all of the members "proud".
"It shows many people in football think the same way we do and realise the power of football," he said. "I am grateful for the way he did it, when he was receiving an award in front of everyone in the football world."
Yet while Klopp - manager of United's great rivals, and preparing for a Premier League trip to Old Trafford on Sunday - has signed up for Common Goal, no other male United player has done so.
Evidently it was disappointing when Mata failed to get the XI he wanted to launch Common Goal in August 2017.
"We didn't manage to do get 11 so I said: 'OK, I am going to be the first player to say it publicly, then hopefully, when others get to see what Common Goal is and find out what we are doing, they will join'," he said.
Mata would obviously be happy if United team-mates joined him, but added: "This is not about saying that whoever is in Common Goal is great and whoever isn't could do more.
"I really believe this is something that, whether it takes more or less time, will become gradually bigger and bigger."
Well, the two Manchester teams first and second in the Premier League, let's see if they can complete the double in the Champions and Europa Leagues this week.
Extra time it is, c'mon you dirty Red Rag wankers
Ole! Ole!
Cavani! Cavani!
You need to sub Rashford off or maybe Ole is keeping him on for the penalties..
Wtf taking Greenwood off for Fred.
This is going to a penalty shoot out and Utd will win, they've had enough practice
Defend Oles decision to take Pogba a natural penalty taker off Hal?
Where's Hal?
When did De Gea save his last penalty ?
How many penalties???
well im certainly glad he's at the wheel
I'm disappointed because it's always good to get those coefficient points.
A progressive season, if not successful.
61 games and the last 4-5 they've just been flat.
Varane, Kane and Sancho in the summer please.
You talk more bollocks than Hal
Sheffield United? West Brom? That team in the proper European cup I'd never heard of and since forgot?
They all showed up Ole's lack of being able to spur(remember the 2-6 humiliation?) his team into breaking defensive teams down. Also 6 home defeats over the season.
OleCockend needs to go with Woodward.
That was fuckin horrible last night. 3 shots between the 2 sides all night.DeGea has gotta be broken now.
60% of penalty shoot outs are won by the side taking the penalty first.
Ole's cluelessness on the preparation for them was so ... Ole.
He's just not cut out to be a manager, and his inability to get the absolute maximum out of this players was ruthlessly exposed the other night.
