One of your greatest legends has passed, and you're still talking about is, typical bell ends

The greatest English midfielder ever.
The greatest English club ever.
The greatest.
RIP
Of course he will mainly be remembered for 'that goal'.
The one he scored for Waterford United in the League of Ireland.
While there were some other minor career achievements, he can and will always be remembered for making it into the level of the League of Ireland first division.
Kathy a few weeks ago, Bobby today. Sir Alex's brother will be looking over his shoulder Final Destination-esque.
He did have a gift for perennially looking 60 years old.
At 20, 60.
At 40, 60.
At 80, 60.
His name will forever be ingrained on generations of taxi drivers the world over before the Internet.
"You Eengleesh? Queen Eleezabeth! Bobeee Charlton! Feesh and cheeps! Luvvly jubbly."
Guardian piece with a cracking picture of him parading the World Cup.
Sir Bobby Charlton, widely acknowledged as one of the greatest footballers of all time and the most storied player England has produced, has died aged 86.
Sir Bobby Charlton, Manchester United legend and World Cup winner, dies at 86 | Bobby Charlton | The Guardian
I think a month off the wagon is appropriate mourning Hal.
Apart from being an outstanding football player of his generation, he became the epitome of fair play and gentlemanly conduct for that generation. I had the good fortune of watching him play in the mid 60's, as a youngster paying my (I think at the time) around 1 shilling and 6 pence into Old Trafford. That team, with Denis Law, George Best, Nobby Stiles, David Herd, Bill Foulkes etc, were tremedous, but nothing could put a gasp in anyone's mouth as Bobby Charlton 30 yards out and pulling his foot back to strike.
An era gone, but I believe the most globally respected footballer ever, not just for his skill, but for the way he conducted himself. Going to be interesting the next few days reading the tributes.

^ agreed. Paul Merson ran him a close second.
Great post, PAG. I think you must be about the same age as my dad. You may well have bumped into each other on the Stretford
End.
He's never had any time for Best, despite his genius, because he says he let United and others down too often.
However, he does say he was the best footballer he's ever seen.
Charlton he likes because he was establishment and tried to help Best, but he normally just says he was a great player.

1968 the first English team to win the European Cup (ten years after Munich wiped our club out):
The Greatest Club in the World.

Nobody, but nobody, has ever represented English football internationally over the the last 50 to 60 years than Bobby Charlton. An outstanding icon of the English game of football. An ambassador of the sport beyond peer. RIP Sir Bobby.
R.I.P Mr Manchester United, last of the Busby Babes and one of only 9 players to win the Ballon D'or, European and World Cup.
