One club executive told the Guardian they expected the season to be suspended for several weeks in the light of the Arteta news, and didn’t rule out the possibility of the whole season being voided.

Premier League bosses are set to postpone the next two weekend of fixtures at an emergency meeting this morning.

The EFL are also ready to follow suit after they called a crisis summit for their clubs as the coronavirus sent football into meltdown.

One director told Mirror Sport that clubs want games postponed and think it is inevitable that will happen this morning with a video meeting called for all Premier League clubs at 10.30am.

The Premier League says it intends to return on 4 April, "subject to medical advice and conditions at the time".


In a statement the Premier League said: "Despite the challenges, it is the Premier League’s aim is to reschedule the displaced fixtures, including those played by Academy sides, when it is safe to do so.
