    PGA spitters

So the flagship championship is coming up on the golf calendar,
the Masters, some would say the Open ( British Open ) is the pinnacle
of golf, to each his own.

I watch nearly every PGA tournament, and without doubt the biggest
blight on the game are the spitters.

    # 1 offender is Tiger Woods, followed closely by Dustin Johnson,Kevin Kisner,
and Brooks Koepka, they golly at least 50 times a round, to me it shows
complete disrespect for anyone unfortunately watching them ejecting saliva
    from their cakeholes.

The 4 players mentioned, just happen to be Americans, but to be fair, most
    of their countrymen don’t.

So why can’t the PGA governing body stamp it out with large fines, or make
them carry around their own spittoons.

Of course it is and has been since 1860.

The Masters is the flagship US tournament at best.

As I said Arry, to each his own, but for pure entertainment, and drama.

    You can’t beat the Masters.

Ask any American golfer if they could win just one tourney in their career what would it be and the majority would say the Masters. Ask the same question to European pros and it'd be no surprise the majority would say The Open. As a keen amateur golfer my whole life, if I could dream of winning just one it'd involve shooting 30 under at Augusta . So much tradition with both events but when they play The Open on The Old Course at Saint Andrews, that's surely the pinacle of the game.

As for the spitting thing a few American players do so much, they're probably all Baseball fans too so thry think it's normal to act like a fucking animal.

So, on that spitting thing, can you ever imagine Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, or Aussie
great , Greg Norman, ever having a big golly in public, they were all too classy.

Spitting in public is uncouth, and should be called out, but the commentators know which
    side their bread is buttered.

    Rant over

Well of course they would, they have no sense of tradition.

They call their Rounders competition the "World Series" FFS when only about two other countries are interested in the shit.

There is also the lack of decorum displayed by the crowd at times.

^In America and only in America. You'd think they'd twig when they watch golf from anywhere else in the world and nobody screams out stupid fucken shit like GET IN THE HOLE, BUBBA BOOYA, and MASHED POTATO. Well actually you might hear it once in a blue moon, but the accent will be unmistakably American.

You can't single the seppos out for gobbing.

It's a national pastime in some countries.

That's true. But you can single them out for acting like fucken idiots yelling stupid and/or abusive shit at golf tournaments, more so after they've had 2 beers...

I can (almost) understand why someone might want to play golf, but can never understand why anyone would want to watch it on TV.

Used to watch Golf on TV with my Dad sometimes on the black and white. Bloke addresses the ball to Tee off, swings and hits the ball then the camera pans randomly across grey skies then jiggles around the greyish grass until the spotter tells said cameraman where to point and finally the zoom into the white ball sat on grey grass - priceless riveting TV or maybe just an excuse for my Dad to quaff a couple of party sixes in peace coz my mum hated it.

I can't imagine why anyone who doesn't play would want to watch it either, outside of maybe something like the last half hour of a Major. But if you do play, you watch in total awe of just how good the Pro's are and how easy they make it look. It's the hardest sport to be really good at in the world, by far.

Sports gamblers also watch a lot of it, if you know what you're seeing it's possible to pick up on players that are close to a win and the odds can be juicy.

Norman was busy choking. A few spits might have done him good.

^Nope. Take someone fit and manoeuvrable enough to do that sport who's totally dedicated and give them a few years (or less) of coaching, training, and practice, and there's every chance they could compete at the very highest level. They'd be no chance of competing on the pro golf tours though, there's uncountable millions of people around the world who are hoping to make it one day and perhaps a dozen of them have any chance.

Oooo. I think that debate deserves a thread of it's own.

Millions of people would have broken par for 18 holes. Anyone under 5 handicap would have done it multiple times.

How many people have climbed K2 and lived?

Winning a golf major is hard but no harder than winning any sporting major. Tennis majors are harder to win in the mens draw. Less people do that.

    Not really: https://www.pledgesports.org/2018/03...kilful-sports/
And that's the first link on Google, couldn't be fucked looking any further.

But granted, there's differences between the worlds most skillful sports, most physically demanding sports, hardest sports, and so on. What I do know is plenty of the best sportsmen the world has ever seen (Sampras, Jordan, Phelps, Sugar Ray, etc) are golfers and they're all totally shit compared to people who are really good.

Norman did choke on that fateful Sunday afternoon at Augusta Georgia.

He wanted that green jacket so bad, and he’s probably had nightmares
    about it ever since.

    But you don’t win 20 PGA tournaments, and 2 British Opens,if you’re a choker,
seems he found it easier to win the British Open than the Masters

And I bet he did have a spit ...... behind a tree.

Thought about that for a few minutes and it'd be interesting to know just how many people have broken par for 18 holes on a Championship standard course. I've met about 4 over a lifetime of playing the game that have who aren't professionals but they're not a dime a dozen that's for sure, well in a bar some cvnt saying he can isn't uncommon but he's probably a 10 on a good day truth be known.

But being able to break par is nowhere near good enough to mix it with the elites, can't remember who said it (Trevino or similar) but they said if you can't shoot 5 under on your home course on a bad day, forget pro golf. And I've never once met or played with anyone who could do that.

Ive met plenty. Knew heaps of players off minus 2 to plus 4. On a good day they could shoot 4 under off the white tees. Off blues 1 under is a good score. Top pros can shoot 62s at average courses
