First time the tournament will have 24 teams. And the first time it won't have a host country.

Top 2 go through from each qualifying group, with play-offs for the final 4 places.

I thought the winners of next summer's tournament automagically qualified or something?

Otherwise what's the fucking point of it?

    Money of course, Harry.

All 24 teams will receive a participating fee of €9.25m. During the group phase there are also performance bonuses of €1.5m for a win and €750,000 for a draw. Once UEFA EURO 2020 enters its knockout phase, there are no more performance bonuses. Instead, the teams participating in the round of 16 will receive €2m, the eight quarter-finalists will receive an additional payment of €3.25m. The financial reward for reaching the semi-finals is an extra payment of €5m. Regarding the final at Wembley in London, the 2020 European champions will receive €10m while there will be a reward of €7m for the runners-up.

^^^ The winner of the UNL next summer doesn't qualify automatically.

Instead the UNL standings affect the play-offs for last 4 remaining spots at Euro 2020. 20 qualify automatically from the qualifying groups.

"Unlike previous editions, the participants of the play-offs will not be decided based on results from the qualifying group stage. Instead, 16 teams will be selected based on their performance in the Nations League. These teams will be divided into four paths, each containing four teams, with one team from each path qualifying for the final tournament. Each league will have its own play-off path if at least four teams are available. The Nations League group winners will automatically qualify for the play-off path of their league. If a group winner has already qualified through the conventional qualifying group stage, they will be replaced by the next best-ranked team in the same league. However, if there are not enough teams in the same league, then the spot will go to the next best team in the overall ranking. However, group winners cannot face teams from a higher league.

Each play-off path will feature two single-leg semi-finals, and one single-leg final. The best-ranked team will host the fourth-ranked team, and the second-ranked team will host the third-ranked team. The host of the final will be decided by a draw, with semi-final winner 1 or 2 hosting the final. The four play-off path winners will join the 20 teams which have already qualified for UEFA Euro 2020"

That's through the play-offs, not automatic qualification.
