    NHL - National Hockey League

    Any members follow NHL?

I just subscribed to NHL and a loving the game I'm watching. Vegas v. Calgary.

My hometown is very likely getting an NHL for the 2020-21 season.

    Anyone following NHL here?

Yeah, I read that this today. It's kind of like dangling a carrot? Just my opinion.

The NBA will return to Seattle but it'll be later than sooner.

Apparently Hansen (technically) has been snubbed on his property/location and the Key Arena will have a $600+ million dollar renovation for Hockey and (in the future) the NBA. Silver might be more open to a team moving. The Pelicans are making little if any profit and the Grizzlies are losing money. Who knows?

The Vegas Knights have given a big boost to NHL, IMO.

The Seattle NHL ticket drive is on March 1st and (it seems) that the is lots of enthusiasm.

Seattle has an NHL team now. I think the league is insane. There is already a lot of teams on the edge of bankruptcy in the US but hey lets start another.

The Seattle Kraken is the name.

HL fans may be wondering: What the hell is that?
    What does it mean?

It’s a “ Scandinavian sea monster,” according to Merriam-Webster. The word is Norwegian in origin. Many parts of the Seattle area are known for their strong Norwegian roots.

The Kraken are off to a 1 and 1 start. Vancouver is in Seattle next week which may be Seattle's home opener so that should be fun. There's a great deal of parity in the 32 team league which is to say that any team can beat any other team on any given night. Go Canucks!

Some teams are cursed. I'm really not sure if we'll see a Stanley Cup win in Vancouver in our lifetimes.

With 32 teams even the highest ranked teams are going to have a hard time getting into the battle for Lord Stanley's. My money is on Tampa Bay to repeat this year. All teams have a salary cap of 80 million so there are many, many young multi millionaires banging around.

I will at some point. The home games are currently pretty much sold out from what I understand, so it may be later in the season.

Fun fact, Seattle had a hockey team before, and in 1917 the Seattle Metropolitans won the Stanley Cup.

My favourite sport during my younger years growing up in Detroit . . . though my all-time favourite
player was Bobby Orr. Bruins not so much, but Orr . . . hell yeah!

32 sounds like a good number . . . and as Russell says, they're seemingly well matched.

Hockey has changed tremendously in the last decade or decade and a half. No more head contacts, no more blind checks into the board. I find it an improved game to watch, much more 'European' than it ever used to be. That old saying "I went to a boxing match and a hockey game broke out" no longer holds any water. I am really looking forward to a near normal season of hockey. And go Canucks!

I can't wait until the Canucks come down to Seattle to play. It will become a great rivalry.

I didn't know that. If Seattle has some hockey history, i wonder why they didn't move one of the failing sunbelt teams over 5 years ago.

Vancouver had a previous franchise in the 1900's too. The Vancouver Millionaires. Brought home the Stanley Cup in 1915

Seattle raised their Stanley cup banner from the 1917 Metropolitans team. This is against convention and ppl in the league are bitching about it.

But I don't have a problem with it. I think the Vancouver Millionaires cup should count and the banner be raised. Its the game, the city and the cup that we have allegiance to. Not the corporate franchise. Who decided this anyway.

The Toronto Maple Leafs cups from this era count. Even after ownership changes and everything. Ottawa counts its cups from this era. So wtf

Why on earth would anyone argue that it shouldn't count? It is the same Stanley Cup, for god’s sake.

It's not the same team though. If the Lakers left L.A., would it be okay for the Clippers to hang their championship banners?

I'm not sure if the NBA has an iconic trophy like the Stanley cup for a playoff championship.

In the case of Seattle and Vancouver , it's the same trophy , the same game and the same cities. That's why it should count. It shouldn't be determined by the corporation that makes up the team imo.

The Toronto Maple Leafs pre war team is not the same ownership or brand as the post war teams. But somehow their old cups count

Championships belong to the cities where they were won, not to the team. When the Sonics left Seattle, the championship stayed here. The Thunder do not fly that banner. Oh, and the Lakers will never leave LA, BTW.

You were probably one of the idiots rioting in the streets the last time they made the final, and probably couldn't name more than 3 players on the current roster.

I watched the last couple games in a bar on Kohsan road with a group of Canadian girls and a bloke from Sweden. Didn't know there was a riot till I seen it on BBC news the next day in my hotel

I stopped being a fan in 2015. Wouldn't you believe it. Jim Benning just traded away our big pick from that time for a bag of pucks. Looks like Olli Juolevi was a bust. i knew we shouldn't pick a fucking defenseman. Im also not a big Horvat fan. He looks like a 2nd line center. These "two way" centers are annoying. Rather have an exciting one way player. Like we should have drafted in 2015/16

Bound to happen after the discontent of fans lately. Won't change a thing until they get a proper penalty kill though. I expect a huge trade this week.
