Boucher swept Budreus Capitals in the playoffs and he got the Lightning to the finals in 1 or 2 years. Then he got the Senators into the finals in his 2nd year. We don't know what he would have done with the Canucks.

But Bruce still has it so that's fine . Aqualooney just hired the wrong GM/president. That's all.

    The Russians are coming.

Ilya Mikheyev says he helped Andrei Kuzmenko pick the Canucks
A lunch in Miami helped Kuzmenko decide on the Vancouver Canucks

Before he even signed in free agency, Ilya Mikheyev was contributing to the Vancouver Canucks.

The speedy winger signed a four-year deal with the Canucks on Wednesday worth $4.75 million per year. Before that, he helped out in their recruitment efforts for the other Russian winger they signed on Wednesday, Andrei Kuzmenko.

"I spoke with Kuzy in Miami," said Mikheyev during a Thursday morning Zoom call. "We were in Miami at the same time and we had some lunch. He asked me about the NHL and he asked me about his options, [the offers] he got. And I tell him Vancouver is the best option for him.

"He thought a lot about Vancouver and another team but it's my opinion for him — I told him Vancouver is the best option for Kuzy."

That's a pretty impressive assist for Mikheyev without even playing a game for the Canucks. Knowing that Kuzmenko was going to be there, along with fellow Russian Vasily Podkolzin, made the Canucks a more comfortable landing spot for him as well. He can help ease the transition for Kuzmenko, which was a bit tough for him in his first year.

The new signings look good, but they fuck up the cap space. And they still don't have a good top two stay at home defenceman, which is what they need the most. They have to trade Miller now, and might not get what he's worth.

I was not a fan of the Rutherford hire. But so far he's not his old impulsive self. So far he's made some decent moves. He was never a big spender on defense. The team has a good goalie. And Hughs.

Former Canucks forward Jake Virtanen found not guilty of sexual assault

Not surprised. At all. And here is his career in tatters.

Virtanen told the B.C. Supreme Court court last week that not only did the woman consent, but that she was an "enthusiastic participant" in the encounter, per the Canadian Press.

Former Canucks forward Jake Virtanen found not guilty of sexual assault

Something circulating online. Not sure if its true

The woman herself testified:1. She was mad Jake didn't drive her the next morning, instead giving her $70 for cab

2.She was mad he wouldn't give her Canucks tix. Bought her own to watch him play

    3. She never told him in the car she was uncomfortable

He'll play again, but he's gotta get back in shape.

It will be the Evander Kane sweepstakes all over again. The Oilers did good with that signing.

Calgary is gonna sign Jake. That's my guess. It's just such a Calgary thing to do.

Are you seriously comparing Virtanen to Evander Kane?

He's a fourth liner. If he is in shape.

He'll be lucky to sign a PTO, and get a 1 mil contract for a single season.

Kane is a better player obviously. But his rap sheet was way worse than Virtanens. Including abuse of women. And being a bad teammate. And document fraud. There were a lot of ppl who didn't believe anyone was even considering signing Kane.

    So I think there's a similarity here.

Virtanen is 2 years removed from an 18 goal season in the NHL. He could play his way onto a second line. The salary cap is drifting sideways. There's a lot of shitty tweeners in the league that he will be better than

He's already been given quite a few seasons to do that. It's what was expected of him, and he's failed to do it for more than a few games at a time.

    Fourth liner, but NHL worthy.

Oh boy. Good player , but i dunno about the term/money. Not an overpayment per se. He would have got at least this in free agency

I was hoping they would find a way to keep him.

    A million bucks a year.

    Cheap like borscht, eh.

    ??????

It's 8 mil per season dummy. And the first four seasons have a no trade clause. Say goodbye to Horvat and Boeser. And still no defenceman.

Eight million per season. Highway robbery. Boeser I will be glad to see the end of. Horvat a different matter. If nothing else he is a top face off guy and presumably a good captain. One big knock on Miller is his very nasty temper. Thanks for the correction Pickel.

Can't wait for the new season.

This contract kicks in next season. We still have him for 5 million and change this season

Jonny Gudraue is 29, he's getting 9.75 million. In free agency , Miller probably gets 9+ too.

    Ian Macentyer sums it up

As for the deal, Miller is 12th in NHL scoring over the last 3 seasons. His $8M cap hit will be 50th. Canucks should get good value over the next 4-5 years but obviously risk overpaying Miller towards the end. That’s business.

I'm aware of that, and I'm not saying it isn't a good deal for a player like him. Just saying we're already over the cap (even at 5 mil) with all the free agency signings and still don't have a defenceman. They could have gotten good value for him if we traded him, now they have to trade Boeser and Horvat to get that value.

And the final years of his contract include a limited trade clause. So can move him then.
