I think the coach should have been fired 15 games ago. I guess it was time for Benning to move on. But he's not as bad as this fanbase thinks. I lived in Edmonton for 7 years. I know what terrible GMing is. Benning never got fleeced in a trade and never signed a franchise crippling contract. So i hope we keep it that way. From Burke to Nonis to Gillis and Benning , they were all fairly good.

Just like Nonis's core players , i think some other GM will be winning a lot with Bennings core in the future. Petterson, Boeser, Podcolzin , Hoglander , Hughs and Demko is pretty good.

^About bloody time. About a month late in my opinion. Get rid of Boesser, Miller and Pearson and a couple more. I think they will likely see what a new coach can do with the current players but I am going to look forward to a big trade. I have no idea what's wrong with Pettersen? Any theories. Benning's a fat thick dumb fool. Greene's a junior league coach. It doesn't help that the team is owned by a family of slum hotel owners. Los Angeles tonight. Go you fucking deadbeats go!

If you think that, then you haven't been paying attention. He had too many over priced free agent signings like Louis Eriksson who was paid nearly a million bucks a goal. We could have re-signed Tanev or Toffoli with that money.
He passed on Tkachuk and took Juolevi in the draft. He also traded away too many draft picks, some of the effects of that are yet to come. And in 7 years he never built a proper D line, which is the main reason they are losing.

He's had some misses for sure. But even Erricsons contract doesn't quite count as a true disaster in this league. Look at Drew Doughty. 11 million for 8+ years. The Sharks gave an 8 million for 8 years contract to Logan Cature. Sharks also traded for and gave a max contract ,9 million + to a broken down Erik Karrlson. He at least avoided those kinds of deals.

There was a lot of hockey ppl high on Cody Glass in 2017. But he took Petterson. Who was the best player in the draft and has the most points. So that's a #1 over all pick.

Hughs was the 3rd best player in his draft. That's a #3 over all pick.

Hoglander was taken in the 2nd round. It's too early to call but he's in the top 5 in some stats for his draft

Indeed. I think the Canucks played a damn good game last night. Our new coach is ,I think, going to get Petterssen going. I hope we start seeing some house cleaning now, Boeser and Pearson in particular. Great game by Demko last night. Go Canucks!

It's a good thing you're not in charge then. Players have slumps, and then they get over them, and Pearson is one of the few that drives the net. Knee jerkers like you would trade players like Cam Neely. Remember him? JT Miller would be a better trade, for a good penalty killing defenceman. He scores, but he's the worst player on the team for stupid turnovers, and he's a cancer in the dressing room.

I apprecite your insights Pickel but is there really any reason for the personal attack. Pearson attacks the net...when he can locate it. I sensed that Miller was a negative influence but thanks for the confirmation. The Canucks are going to have to have a good run to get back to .500. The Canucks need a solid first line which would include Peddersen. This guy +Hughes is the franchise. Where the hell is Rathbone?

Pearson is in front of the net more than most Canucks. They already have the makings for 2 solid lines. You forgot Demko as part of the franchise. Rathbone is too inexperienced defensively and belongs in the AHL for a while. And you're too damn sensitive for TD.

Rathbone looks almost ready to me. When Schenn starts playing bad again , I'd say call him up.

Huge game tonight against Boston. 6:00 start. First game back from suspension for fuck face marchant.

I'm against trading any players that you draft. Boesers qualifying offer is high at 7 million. But good luck trying to replace him. We would have a big hole in the top 6 and we particularly need a shooter in that spot anyway which Boeser is.

The defense isn't as bad as the Vancouver media claims imo. Myers will look better under this new coach.

Still unacceptable that we didn't resign Edler at 1 year ,3.5m. Or Tanev who barely got a raise anyway.

Guys like Hughes and Pedderssen 'see the ice' they know all the players on the ice are. Boesser only sees the net and most times he hardly sees that imo. Guys like Boesser and Pearson aren't too bright regardless of what they might have done in life. Rathbone is a very smart guy, he too is learning to 'see the rink'. Vancouver really needs the win tonight. Go 'nucks.

I like his offensive game, but he still makes too many defensive errors.

It's not just the media claiming that, it's also the statistics. Worst PK in the league, by a mile.

Edler blocked a ton of shots and was good defensively, but then he would cough the puck up or take a stupid penalty resulting in a goal against, every fucking game. Couldn't stand the guy, and he's one of my least favorite Canucks of all time. Really frustrating guy to watch, and he should have been traded years ago when he still had some value. I hated that wet lettuce he threw from the point.

Tanev should have been re-signed and is the player they miss the most.

Canucks should trade for Evander Kane. Sharks will retain 50%of his salary. That's a 30 goal scorer for 3.5 million.

Yes he's bankrupt. Yes he's a total asshole. But it's worth it. The Sharks paid real money for him

He's been a problem on every team he's played for, and you think it would somehow be different here? What other bright ideas do you have? Bringing back Mike Keenan?

Must admit I kind of like that feature. Another decent performance last night. Seven points out of playoffs.

I am lost for words. The Canucks just hired 72 year old Jim Rutherford. This is the biggest gambler/gunsliger GM in the league. He made 59 trades in 5 years in Pittsburgh. He also traded away so many picks that they had one 1st rounder in 7 years.

This is going to be an in-freaking-sane next 3 years. Rutherford is Benning on steroids. Yes he won a cup in Carolina in 2006 and then 2 in Pittsburgh. But he had Crosby and Malkin on the team. Jim Benning has a cup too.

Whatever. This is exactly why i did not even want to fire Jim Benning. Because i knew this would open up to the risk of Rutherford. This old codger quit in Pittsburgh because ownership intervened in a trade. Ol JR was in his home by himself with no staff around him because of covid, on the phone trying to trade Kris Letang. Their star defensman.

It's okay, Benning didn't leave him any picks to trade away. Fans are willing to sacrifice picks to get a cup, and Benning didn't deliver.

The Canucks were ranked 7th best in prospect depth in 2020. Most of which have graduated to the NHL. Pens are dead last.

Jim Rutherford is Benning on steroids.
