    ^ Great heads up ... I didn't know.

WOW ... they've given the Rhinos a 22 point start.

Melbourne weather is predicted as ...

    Min 16 Max 22

That 22 point start looks mighty tempting.

    Come on the Bulldogs.

I see they still have the Morris brothers who both must be older then me.

He is suitably impressed, gets on the phone to Des Hasler, signs the boy on the spot and arranges for him to come over to Sydney.

Two weeks later The Doggies are 12 - 0 down to The Sea Eagles at home with only 20 minutes left - it's been a hard day at the office.

Hasler gives the young Afghani winger the nod, and on he goes. The lad is a sensation, playing an absolute blinder. He scores 3 tries in 20 minutes, converts all of them himself from out wide and wins the game for Canterbury.
The Belmore Oval fans are delighted, the players and the coach are delighted and the media love the new star of Rugby League.

When the player comes off the ground he phones his mum to tell her about his first day in the NRL.
"Hello mum, guess what?" he says "I played for 20 minutes today, we were 12 - 0 down but I scored 3 tries - they call it a hat-trick - and we won.
Everybody loves me, the fans, the press, they all love me - I'm so happy."

"Just wonderful," says his mum, "Let me tell you about my day ... Your father got shot in the street, your sister and I were ambushed and assaulted - she would have been raped but for a passing police vehicle. Your brother has joined a local gang of looters and set fire to some buildings and all while you tell me that you were having a great time!!"
The young lad is very upset. "What can I say mum, but I'm really sorry."

"Sorry?!!! You're sorry?!!!" says his mum,
"It's your bloody fault we came to Bankstown in the first place!"

    ^.

You've got to worry about the Dogs who're paying a fucking motza in salary for the biggest teddy bear forward in the comp (Woods) while offloading one of the most feared big men in the game (Kasiano). Melbourne have him now and ftom the pics I've seen he's in the best condition of his career by a long way. Watch this come back to bite them big time when their "big men" are getting smashed off the park and not making meters...

Dogs will sure miss James Graham as well.

Kasiano is down to 128 kgs and looking good... (down from 136kgs)

I just had a quick thought of Kasiano running at me in open field.

    I think I pee'd my pants a little.

^He's got all the skills too (for a big man) in that he can tackle, offload, read the play, and he's a serious handful to put on the ground obviously. Bellyache will get the best out of him and the Dogs will wonder what the fuck they were thinking as Woods - on yhe best part of a million bucks a year - trundles up to the line in a canter, turns his back, and starts making his own way to the deck before the first defender has even made contact.

Good point above by TizMe about them letting James Graham go too, the Dogs were noted for their mongrel forward pack of which he was a large part but those days are gone now. Klemmer is still there but he's a 50-50 proposition on having a decent game or being a passenger. I doubt they will make the 8 and the bookies agree, they're giving Newcastle a better chance of doing so than the Dogs.

On that point, I'd really like to see the Knights have a good season and expect them to play finals footy this year. They've bought well and have a squad that should gel nicely, their long suffering fans who turn up in droves every home game in rain hail or shine really deserve to go home with a smile more than once or twice this year.

My early GF prediction is Chooks v Storm.

    Yeah, I agree.

Of course I want my beloved Tigers to win a few more games this year as well.

Hopefully all the club infighting has finished now. They'll miss Tedesco, but the money they've saved on his and Wood's contracts have allowed them to spend up on new recruits. Hopefully Benji can bring some of his old magic back as well.

Josh Reynolds (Bulldogs), Benji Marshall (Broncos), Russell Packer (Dragons), Ben Matulino (Warriors), Chris McQueen (Titans), Mahe Fonua (Hull FC), Taane Milne (Dragons), Robbie Rochow (Storm), Corey Thompson (Widnes Vikings), Pita Godinet (Sea Eagles)

Sportsbet has them the shortest odds of any team to miss the top 8 though...

Honestly, and no hate I'm a long time fan, I think Benji's a spent force.

His game was never one suited to longevity and he has lost his pace and fizz.

Still about 2 hours before the game, so the links might not connect till about 4pm Thai time

    Prediction ...

Not the Storm of previous years ... the loss of the vital pivot Cooper Cronk will create teething issues as the spine
works out who/what/when ... Smithy will steady the ship.

The Storm lost their one and only trial match to Newcastle.

The Leeds Rhinos had 2 tough games in the English comp already, but apparently down the numbers in the Forwards.

I've backed Leeds to cover the 22 point start.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Did you see him playing under Bennett @ the Broncos?

Some ... some of the whizz and fizz is back and he seemed to genuinely enjoy his time on the paddock.

I'm surprised that he has lasted as long as he has, considering all the shoulder problems that he had in his early years at the Tigers.
I know its wishful thinking that he'll put in a 2005 performance in 2018...

Some but have to admit not a lot.

I'd be happy to have him prove me wrong.

Tiz's raised another good point re: his shoulders also.

Good luck David!. I wouldn't touch that bet because big spreads scare me, a team may be capable of putting 50 points on against a weaker opposition but that doesn't mean they will!. Seen it (and lost money) way too many times where the better team will get 2 or 3 converted tries in front then go into self-preservation mode...

But again, good luck to you and hopefully it'll be an entertaining match. I'm off to a local sports bar to watch it with some other league fan mates, smash a burger with fries, and get a few cold beers in.

Melbourne lead 18-4 at half time.
Leeds dominated the first 10-15 minutes, but it's all Melbourne since

    38-4 Full time

Brodie Croft had a blinder. Cooper Cronk wasn't missed...

Billy Slater might have fucked his shoulder again.

So, here is a Bookies wrap on how he see's the season shaping ...

    1. North Queensland Cowboys Rugby League 2018-nrl-cowboys-png

Many experts wrote off the Cowboys for the 2017 season once their maestro Johnathan Thurston was ruled out for the
remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury.
Instead of falling apart, the Cowboys were galvanised to prove the critics wrong and charged through the final series
after finishing the regular season in eighth spot.

Michael Morgan was sensational through the final series and proved his worth in Thurston’s absence.
Only a red-hot Melbourne Storm side stopped the Cowboys from a fairy-tale grand final victory.

The Wolf is expecting the Cowboys to go one better this year on the condition that JT plays the full season.
They’ve lost young gun Kalyn Ponga to the Knights, but Lachlan Coote is a handy player on his day.

The signing of Jordan McLean from the Storm gives the forward pack a massive boost, while the return of Matt Scott
    from injury cannot be understated.

Then you throw in the wrecking ball that is Jason Taumalolo, and Coen Hess off the bench, and it’s hard to see the Cowboys
not being there on grand final day.

It will also be Thurston’s final season in the NRL, and you can bet that the Cowboys will be doing everything in their
power to send this champion of the game off in the best possible style.

I'll post up some more when I get more time.

Feel free to comment ... it's our game after all!

Just checking the Truevisions tv schedule and can't find any NRL games next week, just live games or replays of that absolute CVNT of a snore-fest Rugby Union. Don't fucken tell me they've lost the rights to broadcast NRL games via Setanta like they have for so many years before, it's about the only reason I stump up something like 27,000 Baht per year for their 2nd rate service 😣
