If Vettel fails to finish in top 5 in Austin and Hamilton wins, it's all over. Ferrari's miserable performance of late makes this highly probable.

Hamilton is going flat out in qualifying at every race.

Vettel and Verstappen have nothing to lose by driving in their usual aggressive style come race time. That should make for a few exciting races to come.

In the race, Hamilton is driving well within himself. All he needs to do is qualify as high as possible, and avoid the two desperate nutters at the start.

If they are driving conservatively, they shouldn't fucking be there.

The amount of money the teams get from the F1 pot is mostly dependent on their results so, as you say, better qualifying improves their likely track position = constructors points = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Yes, Ferrari and some of the others get unusual payouts; but for the bottom teams, constructors points are like gold dust.

I still remember the first GP in Bahrain in 2004, the Minardi girls were livid that in the hotel they were at, hookers kept knocking on their doors offering their services. The lads of course were quite happy.

To save money they were staying in one of the biggest knocking shops in town!

Well done Hamilton, I got a bit greedy on the betting on the race laid Vettel at just above evens before started cashed out after a few laps at nearly full profit then laid Verstappen at 1.3 which obviously went down but still £300 profit on the race should have been £500 though.....

All a bit of a damp squib really.

I'm pretty certain Vettel tried to take out Hamilton deliberately otherwise he would have spent the rest of the race looking at his exhaust, but it backfired on him.

As it happens, Hamilton did enough by the end to mean that Vettel would have had to win to keep the championship alive.

Still, no love lost there, so Brazil should be a cracker.

Mercedes said last week that they were going to try out some new aerodynamics and other bits in the last two races, to give them a head start on 2018.

Which must have pleased Lewis as he planted his car into the wall in Q1 and will start from the back of the grid.

So its Bottas on pole alongside Vettel, with Kimi and Max on the second row.

As an Aussie I am interested to see how Ricciardo is fairing each race.

I rarely get to watch the races due to Sunday family commitments but always check in on the results.

I therefore ask the more knowledgeable members here whether Ricciardo's, mostly lower place finishers, is due to his car's lack of speed or the fact he does not have the skill to compete with the likes of Bothas, Hamilton and the others.

Apart from coming across as a thoroughly decent bloke, he is an excellent F1 driver. More consistent than his team mate Verstappen, but not as aggressive in his driving style.
Some might suggest he was more of a supporting act to his previous partner Vettel.
If he had the best car on the grid, like Mercedes, he would be a capable number 2 to Hamilton or Vettel.

If he stays at RBR he will be passed by Verstappen who is learning quickly and has an edge to him. He is a better driver than Bottas or Raikonnen.

I just spent some time on YouTube watching some interviews and he does seem like a happy-go-lucky type of bloke.

Probably lacks the aggressive instinct needed to compete with the top three drivers but he is still young and can develop.

Maybe a faster car and pit crew can see him up there with the best.

His contract with Red Bull is up soon. He might get lucky like Bottas did. Red Bull have Honda options next year through Toro Rosso. McLaren might come strong with Renault engines. Not much else on the horizon, unless one of the top guys retires or gets killed/invalided out.

Great race from Hamilton, from the pits to 4th place, but didn't quite have enough laps to get past Kimi.

Pointless race in Scabby Dhabi on the 26th, I'm not sure why they always go last, most of the time it is a dead rubber.

Next year Bahrain are swapping with China, something to do with Chinese Tomb Sweeping Festival.
