    The Lions Are Coming

    ...and good luck getting tickets.

British & Irish Lions rugby tour set to sell out

    11:55 AM Friday Oct 28, 2016

Ticket sales for the most anticipated rugby tour in years kick off at noon today with some tests predicted to sell out within hours.

The 2017 British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand is expected to be one of the country's biggest events since the 2011 Rugby World Cup. This is the Lion's first tour to the country since 2005.

General sale tickets for all seven non-Test matches are available.

The series gets underway in Whangarei on June 3 2017 and culminates in Auckland on July 8 when the All Blacks play the third and final test against the touring side. They will play 10 matches across seven cities from Whangarei to Dunedin.

Test match tickets range in price from $149 to $449. Matches involving the New Zealand Provincial Barbarians, Super Rugby teams and Maori All Blacks range from $39 to $129.

Children's tickets start at $10 for the Barbarians match and $29 for the other non-Test matches.

The following will apply to matches involving the All Blacks.

    Category A - $449.00
    Category B - $379.00
    Category C - $249.00
    D/GA - $149.00

With demand far outweighing availability, tickets to the the three All Blacks v The British & Irish Lions Tests will be done through a ballot system which will be drawn in mid-November.

There is a maximum of four tickets per person and they will only be accessible for those living in New Zealand.

There will be a total of 350,000 tickets on sale, with 250,000 available via the general public ticket process. More than 20,000 Lions fans are expected to descend on New Zealand during the series.
Personally I'm looking forward to the months of squabbling between English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish fans about who should / shouldn't be in the team followed by a short period where they all pretend to get along and unite for a common cause.

Dunno, it's not as though "e" and "r" are close to "i" and "n" on the keyboard and there's no accounting for completely missing the "t". Maybe they're just a bit dim?

Speaking of which...I fear you've fallen into the gaping sarchasm of my earlier post.

    Itinerary

    2017 Lions Tour
3 June v Provincial Union Team, Toll Stadium, Whangarei
7 June v Blues, Eden Park, Auckland
10 June v Crusaders, AMI Stadium, Christchurch
13 June v Highlanders, Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin
17 June v Maori All Blacks, Rotorua International Stadium
20 June v Chiefs, Waikato Stadium Hamilton
24 June v All Blacks (1st test), Eden Park, Auckland
27 June v Hurricanes, Westpac Stadium, Wellington
1 July v All Blacks (2nd test), Westpac Stadium, Wellington
8 July v All Blacks (3rd tst), Eden Park, Auckland

The last two midweek matches Chiefs and Hurricanes will test the squad depth - as did the Chiefs Wales match this season (40-7)

I did a partial tour Auckland to Christchurch and places between with 1993 Lions in pre-Super rugby days when they played provincial teams; work-related all expenses paid. 2005 saw two matches plus the test they played against Dan Carter; they played v 7 provincial teams and NZ Maori rather than the Super sides

    Lions in New Zealand

The Lions first played New Zealand in 1904.

It was 1930 before the Lions recorded a victory over New Zealand.

The Lions’ only Test series triumph to date against New Zealand was in 1971, when they claimed the series 2-1 with one game drawn.

The Lions have suffered Test series whitewashes on five occasions in New Zealand, the last of those being 11 years ago.

The Lions’ 2005 New Zealand tour, when England’s World Cup-winning supremo Sir Clive Woodward was at the helm, saw them concede 107 points in the Test series.

The Lions’ last victory against New Zealand came on the 1993 tour in Wellington.

The Lions’ overall record against New Zealand shows six victories, three draws and 29 defeats.

The last player to score a try for the Lions against New Zealand was former England flanker Lewis Moody in 2005.

A 10-game schedule for next summer’s New Zealand tour will see the Lions play at seven different venues - Whangarei, Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Rotorua, Hamilton and Wellington.

Auckland’s Eden Park - venue for the 2011 Rugby World Cup final - will stage two of the three Lions Tests.

They must be confident considering the team hasn't even been named yet.

    That's a tough schedule.

Plus Hansen & Co have already stated that ABs will be available for their Super teams. Though that will probably exclude the Chiefs and Hurricanes matches - can't imagine they'd allow it four days before the first test Or in between tests.
plus the test they played against Dan Carter

Cheers fella, but I was just being sarcastic to the monkey boy. I'm from NZ so have plenty of contacts there.

Actually since starting this thread I've checked my airmiles and if I can get hold of tickets I've decided to go back for the first test.

Rugby: Lions tickets in hot demand

    7:26 PM Monday Oct 31, 2016

Tickets for next year's Lions tour on New Zealand are in hot demand with the public ballot closing on Tuesday at 5pm. Photo / Photosport.

New Zealand Rugby has received more than 140,000 applications for Lions tickets.

The union has warned fans that the public ticket ballot for the eagerly awaiting tour next year closes tomorrow at 5pm.

The ballot opened early last month with fans eagerly chasing tickets for the three test matches between the All Blacks and the tourists.

The All Blacks host the Lions on June 24 and July 8 at Auckland's Eden Park and in Wellington at Westpac Stadium on uly 1. Test match tickets range in price from $149 to $449 and will only be accessible by those living in New Zealand.

Tickets for all other seven matches featuring Lions against the New Zealand Provincial Barbarians, Maori All Blacks and five Super Rugby teams went on public sale on 28 October.

New Zealand Rugby Chief Executive Steve Tew urged fans to register now to avoid disappointment.

"Interest in the three Test matches has been significant but it's not too late for fans to register for this once in a generation event. Entries in the ballot are randomly selected so registrations made on the last day of the ballot have the same chance of success as everyone else.

"In addition to the demand for the Test matches, we're also seeing good interest across all other matches after only a few days on public sales, with limited tickets available in some areas."

Successful applicants for the online ballot will be notified and offered the chance to purchase by the end of November.

Kinda ironic that the Lions kit for this tour is being made by Canterbury.

No doubt it will have the three kiwis on it somewhere:
