Now I'm not saying Deans isn't entitled to or can't express his opinion and granted he was probably just replying to questioning along those lines, but he probably should be a bit more circumspect given that he had ample chance to beat the AB's and mostly failed:

But he had the wallabies who are not capable of strong arming anyone, that's not a criticism per se, it's just a fact, it's not how they are equipped or how they play.

Strong arming the all Blacks (depriving them of the ball) is probably the way to beat them.... though they can get physical when necessary..... It'll certainly be a better Lions side than the 2005 debacle

    Ermigurd!!!

I've seen Ireland snatch defeat from the jaws of victory so many times against the ABs but this time they did it. Gives me hope the Lions tour won't be a complete blackwash.

Not the right thread but not worth starting another:

The nominees for World Rugby Men's Player of the Year 2016 are: Beauden Barrett (New Zealand), Dane Coles (New Zealand), Owen Farrell (England), Jamie Heaslip (Ireland), Maro Itoje (England) and Billy Vunipola (England).
    Farrell? Vunipola?

    Really??

Vunipola is a definite candidate..... unbeaten England, Saracens win it all domestically and internationally.....

Player of the Year to me is someone who not only excels at their position but brings something extra - and that's not Vunipola to me. He has improved under Jones but still goes missing due to fitness.

Is he a better 8 than Read or Isa? Both offer way more at 8 and I think the latter especially would've deserved a nod over him.

^^ voting is on international test performance only

    BILLY VUNIPOLA (ENGLAND)
The England number eight has come of age in 2016, thriving under the guidance of new coach Eddie Jones who has given him the responsibility of vice-captain and managed to extract the best from the Sydney-born player. Billy Vunipola has played 29 tests since his debut in 2013 and was named man of the match three times in England’s Six Nations Grand Slam-winning campaign for his barnstorming displays.

Just taken a look at the panel:

Chaired by John Eales and comprises former players Will Greenwood, Raphael Ibanez, Francois Pienaar, Chris Paterson, Agustin Pichot, Scott Quinnell, Tana Umaga and Paul Wallace as well as journalists Pierre Galy (AFP), Stephen Jones (The Sunday Times), Jim Kayes (TV3) and Sergio Stuart (Ole, Argentina).

    Wonder who Jones voted for??

England captain Dylan Hartley set to add to 54 weeks of career suspensions after being sent off in Champions Cup clash

Leinster beat Northampton in the European Champions Cup on Friday

By RORY KEANE FOR THE DAILY MAIL

Dylan Hartley is fearing he could be banned for the Six Nations after being sent off in this Champions Cup defeat.

The England captain came on as a 52nd-minute replacement and six minutes later launched a swinging-arm at the head of Leinster flanker Sean O’Brien. Referee Jerome Garces took little time in showing Hartley a straight red card, with England head coach Eddie Jones watching from the stands.

Hartley is likely to receive a six-week ban, which would expire only a fortnight before England host France on February 4. But as he has already served a total of 54 weeks in accumulated bans throughout his controversial career, there is a chance he could be sidelined for longer and miss the start of the tournament.

George North injury sparks TV row as BT bosses react angrily...
‘It’s a strike to the head,’ admitted Northampton’s director of rugby, Jim Mallinder. ‘We’ve seen enough of them over the last few weeks. It was a red card.’

The Saints were trailing 20-10 before Hartley’s dismissal. Leinster would go on to register three more tries as they romped to victory against a side who finished with 13 men after George Pisi was sin-binned in the dying minutes for a high tackle on Isa Nacewa.

‘I wouldn’t say it cost us the game,’ said Mallinder. ‘We started badly and came back into the game pretty well. We had just conceded a try actually, we were already a few points down. But I think when you go down to 14 men against such a quality side as Leinster then you’re always going to be up against it.’

Despite his poor disciplinary record, Hartley was handed the captaincy by Jones before this year’s RBS Six Nations.

I can't stand rugby - memories of getting trampled on by the fat kids who weren't talented enough to play football at school have made sure of that.

I'll watch the international union games though, but why is it Britain against Oz/NZ? Are they too shit to play as a single country?

The mighty Lions struggled to beat a provincial NZ side put together overnight today.

If that is what they are going to put up in the coming month I expect the other professional sides will annihilate them let alone what the All Blacks will do to them.

I hope things change but I do not think so!

Another flogging to add to the history of British and Irish Lions tour floggings I expect.

I hope you enjoyed the spare ribs Chas!

Yeah that was far less than convincing. Presumably they'll get better with more time together but still...

To put it in perspective for those that don't know: that was a team that was made up of provincial players, very few of whom will ever make it to even Super Rugby level.
