Looks like the Irons are close to signing that stereotypical scandihooligan, Martin Braithwaite.

    Good one

Surname doesn't ring a bell like Nielsen, Hansen, Poulsen, Eriksen, Etcsen Etcsen.

    You can have him

    Why?

They need a striker, not an attacking midfielder.

    It should be Brathwaite.

Mostly found in N. England and Scotland, of Norse origin.

    Gotta laugh.

As Man City prepare to spunk £250m on Jack Grealish and Harry Kane, we are reminded of this quote from manager Pep Guardiola in 2009:

Modern football sometimes makes me sad. Nowadays there can be more focus on big name signings rather than promoting youth and that makes me sad.

Why buy a striker for £50 million when there is one waiting in the youth team?

Particularly enjoyable when you recall Pep sobbing "we cannot replace him" about outgoing striker Sergio Aguero three months ago.

If only Pep had a young striker who's scoring at something like a goal per game in his ranks.

Oh wait - Liam Delap. 24 goals in 20 games last season.

Pep's looking to send him out on loan.

A second man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy over alleged rape and sexual assault offences, Cheshire Constabulary has said.

The force said on Saturday that a 40-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of rape earlier this week and released on bail.

I wonder if club officials explain in that why Mendy kept on playing for them months after these offences were allegedly committed, and it was known to them that he was being investigated?

Bit of a contrast to Everton’s immediate suspension of their player.

In fact, a contrast to what just about any responsible employer would do in such circumstances.

Perhaps it was all about ‘togetherness’.

"As it dawned on Benjamin Mendy that he would spend the months leading up to his trial at Her Majesty's Pleasure, there was one thing keeping his spirits up.

According to insiders at HMP Altcourse, the Man City defender believed he was going to be locked up on a luxury VIP wing for celebrities and sports stars.

In fact, Mendy had misheard the screws. They said he would be on the VP wing, which stands for "Vulnerable Prisoners".

The label refers to inmates at risk of attack from other prisoners, including those accused of sex crimes, like Mendy."

This season will be the club's 11th in succession in the Champions League but, last season aside, they have only reached the semi-finals on one other occasion.

Guardiola has guided City to three of their Premier League crowns, including last season, but admits there are some who will still consider his reign a failure without Champions League success.

"Every year it is the same," he added. "If I win the Champions League I'll be happy for the club but if we are not going to do it we are not going to do it.

"You have to judge the success or not of my period. I try to do my best every single day and people can judge my job like I judge my players on how incredible they have done."

City are in a tricky group alongside star-studded French champions Paris St-Germain, Belgian side Club Brugge and Wednesday's opponents Leipzig, who were runners-up in Germany last year but have made a woeful start to this campaign under new manager Jesse Marsch.

They have lost three of their opening four Bundesliga games, including Saturday's 4-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich - now managed by their former boss Julian Nagelsmann.

Defender Marcelo Saracchi will miss the game as he continues to rehabilitate after a cruciate ligament tear, while Marcel Halstenberg is nursing an ankle problem.

Angelino was fit enough to play an hour against Bayern after recovering from a muscular issue and could line up against his former side.

Man City provisional squad: Ederson, Carson, Walker, Cancelo, Stones, Laporte, Ake, Dias, Zinchenko, Gundogan, Rodri, Grealish, De Bruyne, Silva, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Foden, Sterling, Jesus, Torres.
    Shalom
