    The 2023/2024 European Competitions Thread

Since it's almost that time: A reminder that BT Sport has now rebranded as "TNT Sport" which I see has already been updated in my IPTV subs.

BT Sport no longer holds the exclusive rights to the UEFA Champions League in the UK, but it has secured the rights to the majority of the League’s games, plus all the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Europa Conference League exclusively live for a further three seasons, including highlights and in-match clips, to 2027. It will also continue to make the finals available for all to watch.
The broadcaster has secured UK rights for 187 of the 204 Champions League games in the new expanded format which will start from 2024. It will show the new format of the three European competitions from 2024, with 12 more teams, more matches than ever before, plus the introduction of an additional “knockout-playoff” round.
Meanwhile Amazon Prime and BBC Sport are the players that have taken BT Sport’s exclusive deal away. Amazon Prime has secured rights for live UEFA Champions League matches in the UK from 2024; Amazon’s deal will give it one game a week, which will total around 20 games per season.
For BBC Sport, which has not shown Champions League coverage since the 2014-2015 season, from 2024 viewers will be able to watch a new Wednesday night episode of Match of the Day, which will be the home of the league’s highlights.
BT Sport will show 533 of the 550 games available across the three leagues, with 113 (27%) more games for customers to watch each season in new format competition.
    English representatives:

    Playing in the Champions League

    Lance Armstrong FC
    Arsenal
    Manchester United
    Newcastle

    Playing in the Europa League

    Liverpool
    Brighton & Hove Albion
    West Ham United

Playing in the UEFA Conference League (subject to play-off)

    Aston Villa

Gotta fancy Klopp to pick up this pot before he leaves.

City are now one of three teams to have won 10 CL ties in a row.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich & Manchester City.

    The absolute c u n t s.

ISIS have issued a threat to target all four Champions League quarter-final matches this week, including Arsenal's home game with Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal will take on the German champions in the first leg of the quarter-final match tonight in north London. But there will now be concerns over safety after the Al Azaim Foundation, a mouthpiece for ISIS, issued a chilling poster with the message 'Kill them all' alongside the names of all four stadiums hosting the matches.
This has led to increased security measures in the Spanish capital, where two of the games will take place. Real Madrid take on Manchester City tonight, with Atletico Madrid hosting Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.
The threat emerges less than three weeks after the Islamic State launched an attack on Moscow's Crocus City Concert Hall on March 22, where armed assailants stormed the venue and opened fire on the crowd. The horrific incident resulted in the death of 143 people and left around 200 injured.
Just a week later, ISIS-affiliated media outlet Sarh al-Khilafah released an image inciting an attack on Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena during the Bundesliga face-off between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund. Thankfully, the match proceeded without any incidents following heightened security measures around the stadium.
In a statement, UEFA said: Uefa is aware of alleged terrorist threats made towards this week's Uefa Champions League matches and is closely liaising with the authorities at the respective venues.

"He's hiding in Kabul... He loves The Arsenal" went the song.

Meanwhile Gnabry comes back to haunt Arsenal and levels it for 1-1.

Dire was doing that 'arms behind your back...get in his way' thing there.

That doesn't work when the attacker is bearing down directly on goal with the ball at his feet.

I must say, the quality of RM vs MC is noticeably higher.

Kroos didn't fancy closing down Gvardiol.

300,000+ Euros a week - not enough for him to throw all he's got at the ball to block.

    2-3.

    He's subbed with Modric immediately.

Why is Hal the only wanker posting in an Arsenal thread that he set up (and can't spell).

How fucking obsessed with us is he?

Well given the last time we played the squareheads in the knockout stage, I can't be too worried about a draw, especially coming from behind.

And with no away goals, it's still all to play for.

Some sloppy and uncharacteristic mistakes having pushed up to much led to a couple of silly goals, but the second half was much, much better.

Mr. Arteta will have to put his thinking cap on for the second leg.

Well, that was a pen for Saka.

    Crap decision.

At first sight from the side, I thought it was nailed on. From the straight on view, I think Saka put his leg out. Seen them given, but if Kane had done it at the other end and it was given, there'd be a riot.

    I'm not going to complain.

    Decent result, I'll take it.

Now that's not very fair, is it?

After all, you've been cheating your way into this competition for years.

For many of our young warriors, it's their first time at the business end.

Why are you in this thread Hal?

    It doesn't concern you.
