In Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus Manchester City have two players who could reach even greater heights than David Silva and Sergio Aguero.
What was once considered the unthinkable is now a very real prospect.
De Bruyne and Jesus have established themselves as the heirs apparent to two men who have been so pivotal to City’s success in the age of Abu Dhabi ownership.
And on their current trajectory they could shatter the glass ceiling that has constrained Silva and Aguero for so long.
For all their brilliance in their time at the Etihad, the major individual honours have so far eluded the pair.
While the dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has made the Ballon d’Or a two-horse race over the past decade, the absence of Silva and Aguero in the serious running has been conspicuous.
That even the PFA has failed acknowledge them domestically is bewildering.

De Bruyne may well break the cycle of City players being overlooked by their fellow professionals on these shores this season.
The Belgian’s incredible displays in City’s rise to the top of the Premier League has been such that new superlatives need to be sought to describe his qualities on a match-by-match basis.
While De Bruyne was the only City player to be short-listed for the Ballon d’Or this year, he is not expected to put forward a genuine challenge to Messi or Ronaldo right now.
But that may not be the case in the the near future as the 26-year-old’s influence grows for Pep Guardiola’s team.

“He’s the best,” declared Owen Hargreaves. “He’s the best passer of the ball for goals I’ve seen in a long time.
“Paul Scholes was the best short range passer, for me, David Beckham was the best long range passer.
“His passing for goals, almost like one bounce and into people - I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone do that before.”

Some praise considering the players Hargreaves lined up with for Bayern Munich, Manchester United, City and England.
But it is measure of the new heights De Bruyne is reaching the longer he works with Guardiola.
And in Jesus, City have a player who was tipped to become Brazil’s next superstar even before he headed to the Etihad in January.
Since joining City, he has already displaced Aguero in Guardiola’s starting line up and his influence in attack is emphasised by his remarkable statistics.

The 20-year-old has been involved in 21 goals in 20 starts for the club - 15 goals and six assists.
It prompted BBC pundit Danny Murphy to make comparisons with the very best.
“He loves scoring goals, continually in the right place at the right time,” he said. “His touch is good, his balance is good, he’s brave on the ball. He’s quick, his left foot’s decent, demands the ball off people.
“I mean I’d go as far to say he’s probably the best young player I’ve seen since Messi.
“I’m not saying he’s as good as Messi, but since Messi.
“I think at 19 or 20 years of age, he’s just turned 20, he’s absolutely sensational.”
In the season when Aguero should break Eric Brook's all-time goal-scoring record for City, Jesus may well achieve one thing the Argentine never has by being named in the PFA team of the year?
Not that it will mean much to Guardiola.
The City manager is famed for his disregard of individual honours - citing the importance of the team instead.
But he will know individual recognition should go hand in hand with the success of his side - which is certainly how the season is panning out so far.

Two Man City players can rival Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for future Ballon d'Ors - Manchester Evening News

Leo Bonatini has insisted that Wolverhampton Wanderers head to Manchester City tomorrow evening with no fear at all as they look to spring a surprise.
Wolves, under Nuno Espirito Santo, have enjoyed a storming start to the season themselves, but are preparing to face a City side who have won eight of their nine league games and have scored an astonishing 32 goals in the process.
They’ve been economical at the back too, conceding just four times.

On paper, it’s appears a huge ask of Wolves, but Brazilian Bonatini, who scored twice in Wanderers’ 3-2 victory over Preston at Molineux on Saturday, says that City are still beatable.

This will be the only game this season that i'm worried about.

Romelu Lukaku was allegedly the Manchester United player who launched a bottle at Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta, according to reports in Spain.
The shot caused a facial wound to the former Arsenal star in the post-match fracas at Old Trafford.
The Blues took the spoils on derby day to open up an 11-point lead over rivals United, though ugly scenes marred the victory afterwards.
According to Spanish outlet Cadena SER on the show 'El Larguero', the Belgian striker DID find the target at full-time, after missing from point blank to salvage a point for the Red Devils, launching a bottle in frustration that caught Arteta.
Jose Mourinho also asked City stars to tone down their celebrations and was allegedly showered in milk and water after a furious row with Blues goalkeeper Ederson, although this claim is refuted by City chiefs.

It was a tempestuous derby (Image: Action Images via Reuters)A clutch of players and staff were then involved in an ugly bust-up, and City sources have confirmed to Mirror Football that former Everton and Arsenal midfielder Arteta suffered a cut above his eye, possibly from a bottle.
Sources who witnessed the altercation said there was a lot of shouting and a rush of people towards the door of the away dressing-room when the episode occurred, with staff from both sides involved.

Another game; another flurry of Manchester City milestones.

    Pos Team P GD Pts
    1 Manchester City 19 +48 55
    2 Manchester United 19 +27 42
    3 Chelsea 19 +18 39
    4 Liverpool 19 +18 35

The 4-0 win over Bournemouth means City have gone the whole of 2017 unbeaten at home in all competitions and have become the first English team to score 100 top-flight league goals in a calendar year since Liverpool in 1982 (106).
It takes our winning run in the Premier League to 17, which is second-longest sequence ever registered in one of Europe’s top divisions, and extends our lead at the top of the Premier League table to 14.
Pep Guardiola’s side continue to find new ways of making this season even more remarkable.
    What happened?

In truth, the first half was uninspired. City, stymied by their opponents who camped behind the ball, found it difficult to construct the intricate passing moves that have become the hallmark of our play this season.
Junior Stanislas had the first clear-cut chance but his half-volley from a good position failed to trouble Ederson in the Blues goal.
Nicolas Otamendi then lofted a pinpoint pass over the top of the Bournemouth defence for Sergio Aguero, who cushioned it beautifully before unleashing a powerful effort with his right, but the ball sailed over the bar.
Otamendi then let fly himself, striking the ball brilliantly from 35 yards and forcing a fine save from Asmir Begovic. Bournemouth, at this stage, were managing to frustrate City.
But seconds later, the breakthrough came. Bournemouth tried to play out from the back, but City pressed high and hard to reclaim possession. The ball came to Fernandinho, who played a delightful pass to Aguero at the back post, and the Argentine produced a diving header that flew past Begovic.
It was a rare moment of class in an otherwise dull first half.

But as is so often the case, Guardiola’s half-time words raised the performance level of his team. City emerged with renewed vim and vigour, and set about dismantling their well-organised opponents.

Raheem Sterling made it 2-0 with a first-time finish from Aguero’s defence-splitting pass, his 16th of the season in all competitions and the latest example of his growing influence. Indeed, his emergence as one of the most feared forwards in the Premier League has been a wonderful subplot to a brilliant season for City.
Aguero scored his second header of the afternoon to make it three and notch City’s 100th Premier League goal of 2017. Bernardo, on as a substitute, flighted a cross right where Aguero wanted it and our record goalscorer applied the finish.
And Danilo, another sub, finished off the rout when he coolly slotted home from Sterling’s pass.
It wasn’t vintage City for much of the game but it was another fine result from a side who are steadily going down in Premier League history.
Man of the Match: Sergio Aguero

Two goals – both fine headers – and non-stop running off the ball. A fine display.

    Up next

City travel to Newcastle in four days’ time, before a trip to Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve.
Should City win both matches, they would equal Bayern Munich’s European top-flight record of 19 consecutive wins.
    Stats

City have become the first English team to score 100 top-flight league goals in a calendar year since Liverpool in 1982 (106).
City have ended 2017 unbeaten at home in all competitions.
Aguero now has 101 goals at the Etihad.
Most goals for City at Etihad Stadium (all comps)
    101 – Sergio Aguero (135 apps)
    49 – Carlos Tevez (77)
    40 – Yaya Toure (158)
    31 – David Silva (163)
    30 – Edin Dzeko (93)

^ good luck with it mate for your kids.

Cant see it myself with that defense and you losing out on Van Dijk (and Alexis to Englands 2 biggest clubs) even Jonny Evans would have strengthened that weak link of yours...2 goals from long balls last night and Cardiff away next.

You should start hedging your bets now bud. A double on you losing just 2 games- to the Bluebirds on Sunday and Basel in the CL first leg pays nearly 100-1.

Get onnit like a car bonnet
