Phil Foden started the rout – all-too familiar for Clarets supporters at the Etihad – with a crisp low effort from 20 yards out and Riyad Mahrez added two in the space of five minutes at the end of the first-half to end the game as a contest before the break.
Ruthless City continued after the half-time, with David Silva bagging the fourth and Foden capping a stellar evening with the fifth just past the hour.
The win takes City nine points clear of third-placed Leicester, though still 20 points adrift of long-time leaders Liverpool.

    What happened?
Pep Guardiola made eight changes to the starting line-up, keeping good on his word to use his entire squad in the games that remain this season.
Burnley, only able to name seven subs to due various contractual issues with several senor players, started well and pressed high in the opening exchanges.
And a compact shape at the back gave a glimpse as to why Sean Dyche’s men had gone seven games unbeaten before the Premier League was suspended.
But gradually, City warmed to the task and on 23 minutes, Foden scored his second goal in five days and his fifth of the season.
Mahrez and Bernardo played a short corner with the Portuguese playing a low pass to Foden on the edge of the box and after teeing himself up, the young England midfielder fired a low drive into the bottom right corner of the net.
The lead was doubled on 43 minutes, with Fernandinho’s 50-yard pass to feet giving Mahrez and angled run in on goal – he jinked inside then out, tormenting full-back Charlie Taylor – before drilling a low shot across Nick Pope to make it 2-0.

Then, in first-half added time, Foden’s cross to Sergio Aguero drew a clumsy challenge from Ben Mee and the VAR decision was that the challenge was a foul and a penalty was awarded.
Mahrez made no mistake from the spot, but the price was Aguero limping off as a result of a kick on the ankle.

A difficult evening continued after the break.
Cityzens Giving For Recovery: Find out more
Just six minutes in and Foden’s clever threaded ball found Bernardo on the right and his low cross was turned in by skipper David Silva from six yards out for his 75th goal in City colours.

And the irrepressible Foden bagged his second of the night just past the hour with a delightful move, started by sub Kevin De Bruyne who fed David Silva and his low ball was nudged on by Gabriel Jesus for Foden to fire home at the far post.
City declared at five and there was time for Leroy Sane to make his first appearance since August - brief, but welcome cameo by the German winger.
    Mesmerising Foden

We are running out of superlatives for the gifted teenager.
Two goals and involved in two more, what more can you ask of the Stockport Iniesta?
His frame is sturdier, his confidence is sky high and his potential Is frightening.
The youngster has now won all 23 Premier League games he had featured in at the Etihad.
A star man in every sense of the word this evening.
    What it means…
City move nine points clear of third-placed Leicester and eight points shy of guaranteeing a top four finish.
    What’s up next?
City travel to Chelsea on Thursday evening for the third game of our Premier League restart.
Chelsea are in a good position for Champions League qualification and this will be a tough trip for Pep’s men.

Manchester City will learn on Monday whether their appeal against a two-year ban from European club competitions has been successful.

City appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) after Uefa's Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) issued the ban in February.

The CFCB ruled the club had committed "serious breaches" of Uefa's Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations between 2012 and 2016.

They were also fined 30m euros (£25m).

City immediately signalled their intention to appeal to Cas. They believe the CFCB was not independent and ended up being distrustful of it, partly due to the amount of secretive information the club felt was leaked to the media.

They are adamant that what they consider an independent judiciary will clear them.

    How did we get here?
Why legal battle with Uefa is a watershed moment
    Man City's European ban Q&A
Listen to the latest Football Daily podcast
"We are ready," said manager Pep Guardiola on Friday.

"I have a lot of confidence and trust with the people that we will be allowed to play the Champions League because we want to be on the field during these years."

Their appeal began in June and has been heard by three Cas lawyers in private video conferences.

Unless the club are successful, they will not be able to participate in Europe's flagship competition next season and will be prevented from playing in the annual Uefa Super Cup if they win this season's delayed Champions League.

City face Real Madrid in their Champions League last-16 second leg at Etihad Stadium on either 7 or 8 August.

They lead 2-1 from the first leg in Madrid and will face Juventus or Lyon in the quarter-finals, which will be held in Lisbon, if they progress.

    In Pep we trust

Looking forward to the news today.

They're obviously as guilty as sin.

Either City or the whole FFP process is going to look stupid, and the decision will be made by the people in charge of the process.

Guardiola says he'll stay whatever happens, but his contract is up in 2021 with no talk of renewal...

    Justice and common sense prevails...

Manchester City have successfully overturned their two-year ban from European club competitions.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) announced the club were cleared of "disguising equity funds as sponsorship contributions".

Uefa issued the ban in February after ruling City had committed "serious breaches" of Financial Fair Play regulations between 2012 and 2016.

City's fine has been cut from 30m euros (£26.9m) to 10m euros.

In delivering the ruling on Monday, Cas said City did "fail to cooperate with Uefa authorities" but overturned the decision by Uefa's club financial control body (CFCB) to ban them.

City said the decision was "validation of the club's position and the body of evidence that it was able to present".

"The club wishes to thank the panel members for their diligence and the due process that they administered," City added.

    What did the ruling say?
Cas' ruling means City, who are guaranteed to finish second in the Premier League this season, will play in the 2020-21 Champions League.

In this year's competition, Pep Guardiola's side face Real Madrid in their last-16 second leg at Etihad Stadium on 7 August. They lead 2-1 from the first leg and will face Juventus or Lyon if they progress.

The Cas statement continued: "The award emphasised that most of the alleged breaches reported by the adjudicatory chamber of the CFCB were either not established or time-barred.

"As the charges with respect to any dishonest concealment of equity funding were clearly more significant violations than obstructing the CFCB's investigations, it was not appropriate to impose a ban on participating in Uefa's club competitions for Manchester City's failure to co-operate with the CFCB's investigations alone."

On reducing the fine, Cas said that, while it considered "the importance of the co-operation of clubs in investigations conducted by the CFCB" and Manchester City's "disregard of such principle and its obstruction of the investigations", the Cas panel "considered it appropriate to reduce Uefa's initial fine by two-thirds".

It added: "The final award with reasons will be published on the Cas website in a few days."

Uefa said it noted there was "insufficient conclusive evidence to uphold all of the CFCB's conclusions in this specific case and that many of the alleged breaches were time-barred".

The governing body added: "Over the last few years, Financial Fair Play has played a significant role in protecting clubs and helping them become financially sustainable and Uefa and the European Club Association remain committed to its principles."

    What were City accused of?
Uefa launched an investigation after German newspaper Der Spiegel published leaked documents in November 2018 alleging City had inflated the value of a sponsorship deal, misleading European football's governing body.

Reports alleged City - who have always denied wrongdoing - deliberately misled Uefa so they could meet FFP rules requiring clubs to break even.

On 14 February, the independent adjudicatory chamber of the CFCB said City had broken the rules by "overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to Uefa between 2012 and 2016".

It added that City had "failed to cooperate in the investigation".

City, who have been owned by Sheikh Mansour since 2008, were fined £49m in 2014 for a previous breach of regulations.

    What was City's case?
City failed in an initial bid to have Cas halt Uefa's investigation in November last year.

After the two-year ban was announced, City said the process that led to it was "flawed" and "prejudicial" and immediately announced their intention to appeal.

They alleged they had been the victim of an illegal hack by people who had the express intention of damaging their reputation and that the emails were being used as the basis for reports which were being taken out of context.

City also believed the CFCB was not independent and ended up being distrustful of it, partly because of the amount of secretive information the club felt was leaked to the media.

Oh so no sour grapes then Pep i hope he doesn't think anyone has respect for Citeh.

Pep Guardiola has ‘not much respect’ for Arsenal off the pitch despite Man City suffering FA Cup defeat

Pep Guardiola has said that he does not respect Arsenal “off-the-pitch” as the fall-out from Manchester City’s successful Champions League ban appeal rumbles on.

City’s two-year ban from European football’s premier club competition was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport last week in a landmark ruling against governing body Uefa.

Guardiola subsequently accused Arsenal and other Premier League rivals of “whispering” - colluding behind City’s back to ensure that their ban for alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play would be upheld.

Arsenal eliminated City in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, but when asked an unrelated question about preparations to play Watford and Norwich, Guardiola returned to the subject of Mikel Arteta’s side.

“I said after Arsenal, we didn’t play the first half against Arsenal like the second,” he said. “That was the only regret. We wanted to play 90 minutes like the second half. But after we were beaten we shake hands.

“The opponents always deserve my respect and credit. And Arsenal, I have all the respect for what they are on the pitch, not much off the pitch – but on the pitch, a lot. Congratulations to them and good luck in the final.”

Some at the Etihad believe Arsenal were influential in the process which saw eight top-flight clubs - all of the top 10 at the time, bar City and Sheffield United - write a letter to Uefa insisting City’s ban apply while their appeal was still ongoing.

Arsenal have traditionally been among the strongest advocates of Uefa’s controversial FFP measures, with former manager Arsène Wenger publicly backing the measures on many occasions until a change of heart in 2017.

A brace from Kevin De Bruyne along with strikes from Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez ensured it was a winning Premier League finale from both ton-up City and David Silva against Norwich.
In what was our final league game of the 2019/20 season – and Silva’s final domestic game for the Club – Jesus and De Bruyne both struck in the first half to put Pep Guardiola’s men in control.
Raheem Sterling struck with 10 minutes left to chalk up his 20th league goal of the season and City’s 100th league goal of the season.
It was provided by Kevin De Bruyne, who in the process, equalled Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a season before adding his second and our fourth before Mahrez then rounded off a day to remember with goalkeeper Ederson also claiming the Premier League Golden Glove award.
It was fitting that Silva finished the league season as a winner after a glorious decade at the Club. But it isn’t the last time we will see him in action with City resuming Champions League action next month against Real Madrid.
And City have a special tribute planned for El Mago after has played his final game for the Club.
    WHAT HAPPENED

It was a fixture that pitted the top flight’s highest scorers against opponents with the most porous defence and, from the off, City seized both control and the attacking initiative.
Yet the Canaries provided a huge early scare when Onel Hernandez fund the target on nine minutes after cutting inside from the left – but the strike was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.

EARLY OPENER: Jesus pokes the ball beyond Krul in the 11th minute.
And City wasted little time by responding in predatory fashion as we opened the scoring on 12 minutes through Gabriel Jesus.
Raheem Sterling was the instigator, cutting an inviting ball into the box from right for David Silva.
Our skipper couldn’t convert but the rebound fell invitingly for Jesus who rifled home his 22nd goal of the season in all competitions – a club best for the Brazilian.
It was all hands to the pump at the back for Norwich and only a brave block by Ben Godfrey prevented a De Bruyne rocket arrowing into the top corner of the net.
Godfrey then put his body on the line once again to fling himself at Jesus’s goalbound shot after Tim Krul had spilled the ball from Walker’s cross.
But a momentary lapse of concentration saw City lose possession and Teemu Pukki race upfield unopposed before Ederson came out to narrow the angle and block the Finn’s shot.

FIST PUMP: Jesus celebrates his early goal.
The importance of that save was amplified on the stroke of half time as City doubled our advantage with a trademark piece of De Bruyne brilliance.
After a patient build up, our Belgian maestro gathered the ball on the edge of the Norwich box, found a yard of space before unleashing an unstoppable dipping, curling right foot shot from 20 yards into the top right-hand corner.
There was almost a fairy-tale moment early into the second half as Silva despatched an exquisite goalbound shot only for Krul to superbly palm the effort away.
Ederson then proved Norwich’s nemesis again after Hernandez slalomed through the City defence, the keeper racing out to deny the striker with the assistance of Laporte.
De Bruyne was then so, so close to claiming an assist, as his cut-back - aimed for Gabriel Jesus - hit Zimmerman and cannoned back off the woodwork!
But the third goal did arrive 10 minutes from time as Sterling struck from close range after - an assist from - who else - but De Bruyne for his 20th league assist of the season - equalling Thierry Henry's record

SUPER KEVIN: De Bruyne spectacularly finds the top corner from 20 yards out just before the interval.
City further stepped up the pressure as substitute Riyad Mahrez struck to make it four just four minutes from time before Silva was taken off to acclaim from all of his team mates.
And De Bruyne then set the seal on a stunning afternoon as he fired home a brilliant fifth goal to cap another dazzling display
    GLOVE STORY

With Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope conceding a goal in the Clarets’ home game with Brighton, today’s 16th clean sheet of the season saw Ederson secure the coveted Premier League Golden Glove award.
It was a fitting reward for the Brazilian who has been a model of consistency across the season.
And he again proved his worth by producing a crucial save from Teemu Pukki when City were 1-0 to the good.
    RECORD BREAKER

Two goals and an assist made it a record-breaking afternoon from Kevin De Bruyne, who in the process equalled Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a season which he set in 2002/3.
It was fitting achievement after a quite wonderful all-round season by KDB.

MAGICIAN: El Mago brings the ball forward in the first half.
    WHAT IT MEANS

City had already long since secured second place in the Premier League but today’s victory ensure we finished the domestic campaign with a flourish.
It took us to 81 points for the season with 26 wins from our 38 games and a tally of 102 goals.
The result almost ensured me maintained momentum ahead of our return to European action next month.
    WHAT’S NEXT

With our league season now complete, City’s attentions now switch to the Champions League and next month’s huge last 16 second leg against Real Madrid.
We play host to Zinedine Zidane’s newly crowned La Liga champions at the Etihad on Friday, August 7, kick-off 8pm with City holding a crucial 2-1 lead from the first leg.
It promises to be an occasion to savour.

ONE OF CITY’S GREATEST EVER PLAYERS
David Silva arrived at City from Valencia in the summer of 2010 in what has proved to be one of the most inspired purchases in the Club’s modern era.
The Spanish midfielder, dubbed ‘Merlin’ in reference to the magic he produces on the pitch, is four games away from a quadruple century of appearances in sky blue and is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in City’s history.
He has been a key component of the Club’s success, lifting 12 trophies in nine seasons, whilst at international level, he is a World Cup and European Championship winner.
After progressing through Valencia’s academy, Silva came to prominence in a loan spell at Celta Vigo in 2005/06, where he hit four goals in 31 appearances to help clinch a UEFA Cup spot.
His exploits earned him a seven-year contract at the Mestalla, where he would go on to make 161 appearances over the next four seasons, winning the Copa Del Rey in 2008.
Silva quickly adjusted to the demands of English football, becoming a crowd favourite due to his continued excellence.
His exploits at international level – winning two European Championships and a World Cup in four-years- placed him amongst the world’s best midfielders and his domestic form reflected that.
He has been an integral member of the starting XI throughout his City career.
In his first two seasons, he won the FA Cup and Premier League and was named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2012 when he also won City’s Player of the Year award.
He was again at his sparkling best as City won the Premier League title in 2013/14 and was also a League Cup winner as City beat Sunderland 3-1 at Wembley.
The following season saw Silva post a personal best as he bagged 12 goals in 42 games, though he would have to wait until the 2015/16 season to add another winner’s medal when he was part of the team that beat Liverpool to clinch the Capital One Cup.
Silva won his 100th cap for Spain at Euro 2016 to confirm his lofty status for both club and country and made an excellent start to the 2016/17 campaign in which he was again named City’s Player of the Year.
It was his in his eighth campaign that the Spaniard produced his best football yet, winning a third Premier League title and third Carabao Cup as well as being voted into the PFA Team of the Year for only the second time.
In 2019, he added another Carabao Cup success to his CV, before clinching another Premier League title and a second FA Cup.
