The Golf thread.

Always surprised me there's never been a dedicated golf thread in the forum, more so as there's surely people here who play regularly (and it doesn't get much better than Thailand when it comes to golf). Or perhaps they don't play anymore but still follow what's happening on the various Tours and have an interest in the sport.

So why not take a few photos and post them of courses you've played, share your picks for upcoming tourneys, or whine in general about how unlucky you were not to break 80/90/100 on your last outing .

So it's the Players this week, my likes are DJ and Patrick Reed. Anyone else on?.

McIIroy always in with a chance when he is on form! he's about due a win.
Rose has been playing well also, golf is in good shape at the moment lots of people capable of challenging.

Shot my lowest score there a whiles back (84) and then proceeded to do meself and mischief and injure my shoulder. Gotten to the point where I've had to give golf away for the time being as I've lost my swing completely (and it was a bit shit to start with anyway).

^^Yeah it's in good shape alright, you could make a case for 25+ players in this field winning. I believe it's the highest prize money on the PGA tour at around USD 1.9 million bucks to the winner and a 10 million total prize pool, so it's no surprise the biggest of the big boys are teeing it up this week. Which is bad for trying to pick a winner, but good odds are on offer if you do!. Guys like Rosey and DJ at 25 or 30 to 1 isn't a common sight.

^Bad luck on the injury. Having sat out for months on end over the years with some pain or another that won't go away, I know how frustrating that can be...

^ St Andy's has always been one of my favorite courses in Thailand, quite unique, did you play it when it first opened, the first par six over the water x 2 was a tough hole, remember being pleased when I finally bogeyed it!
There's water directly in front of the par three pictured, I did manage to find!

I've only ever played St Andrews 2000 perhaps 6 times over the years, it's a nice course but not a track on our regular rotation list!. The Par 6's are a bit of a novelty and are quite hard, the Par 6 at Pattana is a good hole though that's gettable. The course is currently in good shape, unlike it's sister courses Silky Oaks and Green Valley which are both in desperate need of rain!. We've played all 3 courses in the last month and if you play early (as anyone sane would in this heat) the courses have been almost deserted which is always good!.

If anyone plays any of the 3 courses a really good place to grab a bite after the round is Valley View, which is just a lob wedge away from the main entry into the St Andrews property. Outstanding home cooked food at ridiculously cheap prices, highly recommended and a true hidden gem in the middle of nowhere!. Restaurant

I used to play 4 times a week. When I moved to Thailand I played every month in the Bangkok Golf League, which was good fun. Then I had two hip replacements and now my golfing days are over.

Took the kids to the driving range last week, good evening was had by all.

Taught them how to grip and swing then let them ping/slice 50 balls each.

And before you know it, when they hit a bad shot they'll replace that word with another 4 letter word that begins with F .

Good on you for exposing them to the game and giving them some pointers early, you never know how good they might become. I've noticed a lot more parents taking their kids to the ranges lately. With Jaidee, Aphibarnrat, and now Jutunagarn all having won on their respective Tours the kids have some ready made local golf heroes to look up to.

A great weekend of golf, McIIroy wins in his home country, Ariya wins again in the USA, she is now officially a "superstar" in Thailand & finally Garcia wins!!! that boy should have won so much more in his career.

Rory's win was unbelievable, unless you're Rory I guess. 1 shot down with 3 to go and he goes for the green in 2, pulls off one of the best (and gutsiest) shots he's ever hit, birdies the hole and goes 1 up. But as good as "that shot" was, his 5 wood approach from around 270 yards on the 18th and leaving it in kick-in range was better. Very happy to see him finally win his home Championship, as were his home town fans!.

Ariya is on fire, 2 LPGA wins in 3 weeks on a tour that no Thai had ever won on. Pornanong was in the mix too, she'll win sooner than later.

And you're 101% correct on Sergio, how the hell he's never won a Major is almost unfathomable. The famous Spanish temper gets to him after he hits one bad shot then he can't get back in the zone perhaps?.
