Ali may not take many wickets but his value as a team member is unique. He can be used to rest the seamers, fields and catches well, and his no nonsense batting style is a joy to watch.

His greatest asset is that bowlers like Johnson and Starc hate being smacked all over the place by him. Gives us a lift coming in at 8 and it pisses the convicts off when he arrives and scores quickly at the tail.

I have always been a big KP fan and the fact is we still have problems that could be resolved by his inclusion. I was disappointed when Strauss excluded him. He does have flaws however, and as Harry pointed out he is divisive in the dressing room. KP is a very selfish player who, despite his obvious talent, will always put his own interests first. Joe Root is a better bowler.

Smith is obviously a good batsman, and has played a lot of good innings in the last 18 months, but yeah, you wouldn't consider him a top top player.

Just watched Michael Clarke and have to say hat tip to him. Yes he fell on his sword and he had no choice in that. He did so with considerable syle and good grace. Obviously no Australians will thank him for that, but I will.
