What Carli Lloyd and the United States women's national team heisted inside the muggy confines of BC Place Sunday evening wasn't merely a 5-2 win over defending Women's World Cup champion Japan. It was seizure by the U.S. of the right to claim being the greatest team in women's international soccer.

When Wambach subbed into her final World Cup game,Homare Sawa the former captain for Japan walked over and gave a high-five to Wambach.

That fourth goal was kicked from one step past the mid-field line by Carli Lloyd and it was her third of the game. Also, all 4 were within the first 16 minutes. From Women's World Cup final match report | USA 5-2 Japan | Football | The Guardian

She noticed goalkeeper Ayumi Kaihori way off her line, and launched the ball from just inside the Japanese half. Kaihori got her fingertips on it but it ricocheted off the post and in.

Takes a quick footballing brain to consider that effort. To consider so quickly, and execute so well is rare in the mens game. The girl done good. Goal of the tournament for me. No argument about it.

Why such a bad rap, I wonder? BeIN Sports broadcasts the Scottish League and those blokes always seem fitter and more enthusiastic, as well as just as skilled as their Premier League counterparts. Crowds are generally more enthusiastic also.
