I really enjoyed seeing cro cop being walloped at UFC 70.
Destroyed by a lights out head kick of all things.

For the last year Cro Cop has been in the top five and the poster boy for strikers in MMA. He has got cocky and i think definetly under estimated his opponent. Cro Cop of two years ago wouldnt of let his opponent even get near him like he did in UFC 70.

Not the best looking line up, but you never know what treasures might be unearthed.
I still can't get over that Houston Alexander guy.
The crowd was booing him at close quarters when he came in and he'd been written off on all the MMA forums.

btw, which kunt gave this thread a 1 star rating.

in praise of my favourite tafy mod i reopen this great thread!!

UFC 75 is around the corner and is destined to be a cracker

    i predict:

Rampage will be destroyed by Henderson

Cro-Cop will hammer the crap out of Kengo (due to his pathetic show against Gonzaga)

Hamil/Bisping will be an absolute cracker! if hamill can take him down early he'll get the decision but if it stays on the feet bisping will knock him out

great article here....the tide is turning folks!! MMA is the future
    Telegraph Blogs : Sport : Gareth A. Davies : September 2007

This Autumn promises to be a special one for British boxing, yet this Saturday 17,000 fight fans will flock to the O2 Arena in London Docklands to see not the sweet science, but the Ultimate Fighting Championships. It will be as big a fight night in London since the days of Frank Bruno

UFC is certainly exploding in popularity. In the US the UFC - where combatants use a mixture of boxing, kickboxing, Greco-Roman wrestling and Brazilian Ju-Jitsu - has become as much a staple of the US sports fans' diet as gridiron, basketball and baseball. Such is the UFC's appeal to 18-35 year old males that more traditional sports like boxing are attempting to copy the league's combination of hard rock, great looking girls and super-sleek 21st century presentation.

"In America, we've gotten to the point where when fight fans are gathering around the water cooler on Monday and ask their buddies 'Did you see the fight Saturday night?' they are talking about the UFC," said UFC President Dana White. "I'm a huge boxing fan, we were delighted Ricky Hatton accepted our invitation to train for his last fight in Las Vegas at our private gym, but the UFC as a company is bigger than boxing as an entire sport in the US right now."

There in lies the problem, how can you have a sport run by one company. UFC can't really be taken seriously until it branches out and becomes a set of rules rather than an all in one outfit. Although I quite like the fighting, the set up and promotion is a little too similar too close to wrestling for comfort.

he is the Pride FC champion in TWO weight divisions boris!!

Henderson knocked out Wanderlei Silva in their last fight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he is like a younger, stronger, smaller randy couture. the bookies have him at 10/12 to beat Rampage so i'd reckon that it is a good vindication

you've really got to go and watch the Pride FC boris.....it was the greatest fighting show on earth......far far far better than the UFC (as is being proved now in their relentless efforts to sign all the Pride FC stars)

i dearly hope that a new organisation will rise to challenge the UFC 'cos all their seppo bullshit and their dumbass booing fans really piss me off

That KO of Cro-cop was amazing. Never thought I'd see somebody do the same thing to him that he did to Vanderlei. Both of those guys used to be invincible IMO. Now merely human.

    Call to ban 'no-holds' fighting

Cage fighting is gaining in popularity

Brutal, no-holds-barred fighting should be banned, say doctors in Britain.
The British Medical Association, which has campaigned since 1982 for a ban on boxing, has now turned its attention to extreme mixed martial arts.
Doctors are not calling for a ban on sports such as karate, but instead want to see the end of "brutal" events like cage fighting.
It comes ahead of an ultimate fighting event in London on Saturday. Martial arts experts said people had a choice.
Mixed martial arts is a combat sport in which a wide variety of fighting techniques are used, including striking and grappling.
The days of gladiator fights are over and we should not be looking to resurrect them

    Vivienne Nathanson, of the BMA

Events such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which is being held at the O2 arena in London, pits different fighting styles against each other in caged rings.
It emerged in the US during the 1990s and has proved popular on pay-per-view television.
Organisers have now started arranging events in Europe and this has prompted the BMA to speak out.
Dr Vivienne Nathanson, head of science and ethics at the BMA, said: "Ultimate fighting can be extremely brutal and has been described as 'human cockfighting'. It can cause traumatic brain injury, joint injuries and fractures.
"This kind of competition hardly constitutes a sport - the days of gladiator fights are over and we should not be looking to resurrect them.
"As doctors we cannot stand by while violent fighting tournaments are allowed to take place.
"Large amounts of money can be earned by participants, promoters and others linked to ultimate fighting, but no amount of money can compensate for permanent brain damage and premature death.
"As a civilised society we should be campaigning to outlaw these activities."
    Tournaments
The BMA said there had been only one reported death in Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts since it emerged in 1993.
But doctors said this should be put into context as the tournaments are still in their infancy compared to boxing.
However, Paul Griffin, of the British National Martial Arts Association, who has members which take part in mixed martial arts, said: "The issue is being sensationalised.
"There are strict rules governing these fights and there is a good safety record. "But the bottom line is that people have a choice over whether they take part, they should not be dictated to." The O2 arena and Ultimate Fighting Championship were unavailable for comment

I also agree that Pride format in a ring is much better than cage fighting. Fighters use that cage way too much and lead to boring ground games. I also like head stomps in Pride, which I don't think you can do in UFC, though elbow strikes are allowed.

^^people want to fight and want to see fights..it is a primal urge which will not be banned or coralled into handy meshes.

MMA is the greatest sport in modern history.....boxing is dead.
