Pace of the game is getting faster each year and every year the players worry about burnout, they also complain about the lack of a full home and away, yet they have a silly pre season comp?. And then....they go have some practice games afterward...

Give the players a bit more conditioning and bang on a another round or two.

I think he might. It's about time that we employed a decent coach. The Daniher boy was good but we got rid of him.

The Sydney derby should be more interesting, but I would think Swans will win easily in the end. Tigers should dominate their game but it's the Tigers. ....

    Talking Giants beat Sydney

Little brother has well and truly arrived.

    SCOREBOARD: GWS v SYD

Greater Western Sydney kicked six unanswered final goals to record an historic 15.9 (99) to 9.13 (67) AFL win over the Sydney Swans on Saturday.

The encounter between the two local rivals produced the Giants' first win in five derbies and included a bit of everything, including a delay of over 20 minutes between the first two quarters due to a fierce storm. For all the fuss about Lance Franklin's much-anticipated debut for Sydney, it was opposing forwards Jeremy Cameron (four goals) and Jonathon Patton (three) who stole the show.Franklin kicked one booming 50-metre goal from a set shot inside the first 10 minutes, but was otherwise well held by Phil Davis, notching one goal, one behind, seven touches and four marks.Down by seven early in the last quarter, GWS hit the front through goals by Stephen Coniglio and Adam Kennedy.PHOTO:[at]

Big derby shock ... Jeremy Cameron (R) booted four goals as GWS trounced cross-town rivals the Swans.(Getty Images: Ryan Pierse)Further majors to Cameron, Sam Frost, Patton and Lachie Whitfield sealed a famous win, with co-captains Davis and Callan Ward outstanding. An ominous first rumble of thunder broke before the first bounce and the rain arrived a few minutes later.AUDIO:[at]Interview: Phil Davis[at](ABC News)

The rain intensified as the quarter progressed and was lashing the ground as the siren sounded to end the term, with players and officials leaving the ground. The match manager invoked AFL regulation 33 which allows for a game to be delayed for up to an hour for circumstances beyond the control of the home club. When the weather cleared, it was replaced by a different kind of electricity and energy as the harbour city sides produced their first full-blooded four-quarter tussle, with the rival fans in the 17,102 crowd adding a strong vocal backdrop. The Giants led 19-12 early before the Swans kicked three straight goals to set up a 13-point lead at the first break. After a first quarter that produced 10 goals, the scoring cooled off when the game resumed after the delay

.The Giants weathered some early Swans pressure, with the visitors failing to fully capitalise.Sydney had the first six scoring shots of the term, but only of them was a goal. The Giants trailed by 24 points, but cut the deficit to just seven by halftime after kicking the last three goals, two of them to Cameron. Both teams kicked two goals in the third quarter, which ended with the Swans holding a slender three-point lead.Originally omitted Swans midfielder Ryan O'Keefe received a late reprieve when he came into the side after co-captain Kieren Jack pulled out with a sore back

Easily so. Good start to the season without James Hird, fletcher equal club highest number of games played, think it was 379 and he looks like he has loads more about him. Goddard was great.

See the bombers fly, up, up!

Richmond v Carlton this afternoon at 3.30 Live in The Club House Bangkok https://www.facebook.com/clubhousebkk

Round 2 teams: Richmond recalls Jake King but loses Alex Rance for clash against Carlton

RICHMOND has turned to small forward Jake King to add some aggression and goalkicking power against Carlton.

But the Tigers have lost key defender Alex Rance to a foot injury.

Dylan Grimes was recalled to cover for Rance’s loss, and second-year player Matt McDonough was dropped for the MCG showdown.

The Blues also made two changes, losing Andrew Walker to suspension and axing Andrew McInness. The two inclusions are Kane Lucas and Simon White, who will play his first game since fracturing a vertebrae in his neck playing the VFL last July.

The Tigers resisted the urge to rush back best-and-fairest winner Daniel Jackson after he made his return from injury in a VFL practice match last weekend.

Carlton has named ruckman Matthew Kreuzer despite the key big man pulling up sore this week.

Kreuzer looked far from 100 per cent at training, but Blues coach Mick Malthouse was adamant today he will play.

The news wasn’t as good for former captain Chris Judd who’s recovery from an Achillies injury is taking longer than expected.

Kreuzer and Simpson training away from group.Kreuze doesn't exactly look a picture of health. MM not convincing over his availability either

“It’s a conservative approach for a player that’s played a lot of football, 12 years or thereabouts, and to try to rush him back would be an injustice to his body,” Malthouse said.

“So we just want to get him back, get him back playing good football, get him back injury free and feeling as good about himself as he possibly can.

“To rush him back is probably all against what I’ve always thought about a bloke like Chris Judd …”

“We use the word champion too often, but he is a champion. You never deny a champion coming back and playing great sport, whatever sport he’s involved in.

“I have the utmost confidence he’ll come back and have an impact.”

Kreuzer (foot) is one of several Blues whose pre-seasons were disrupted by off-season surgery.

Lachie Henderson (upper leg) and Dale Thomas (ankle) played alongside Kreuzer in the Blues’ Round 1 team, while Judd, vice-captain Andrew Carrazzo (calf), Sam Docherty (knee) and Dennis Armfield (knee) are yet to return.

Carlton were over-run by Port Adelaide in Round 1 and will be looking to improve their final-quarter effort against Richmond.

If Kreuzer is out who will relieve Warnock in ruck v Tiges? Casboult didn't train, but Rowe did. Rowe in for Walker & pinch hit in ruck?

Amazing that the blues could go from overflowing with rucks to being caught short v Tiges. But Warnock was immense in elim final last year.

Malthouse said the number of injuries wasn’t an excuse for the Blues slow start to the season.

“We’re not there to say this will cost us wins and losses, this is just simply a fact of life,” Malthouse said.

“At three-quarter time [against Port] we thought we were in the hunt. Now that got blown out of the water pretty quickly in the first seven or eight minutes, but that won’t diminish our appetite for victory.

“It won’t diminish our belief that we can win games of footy. It just simply means that these players have got to play more football and that’s what we’re going to do – every opportunity we get, (we’ll) just play them on the ground.”

Malthouse jokingly turned up to today’s press conference carrying a tray of muffins after last week asking a photographer to leave when he noisily unwrapped a pastry.

But the Blues coach set down strict rules that no food was to be touched until after he had finished speaking.

    c'mon Tigers!

RICHMOND v CARLTON, MCG, Thursday March 27, 7.45pm (AEDT)
    TV: Channel 7
Sportingbet says: Richmond $1.62. Carlton $2.35
    Why watch?
This match is sure to be packed full of drama as the Tigers and Blues face off once again in a repeat of last year's classic Elimination Final. Richmond were back in the finals for the first time in about a 100 years and the Blues only made it as they finished ninth and Essendon were dumped out. Despite the gap in class, Carlton still matched up well against the Tigers last season, having beaten them late in the season to cost Richmond a top-four spot. And the Blues took that form into their first final, coming from behind to beat the Tigers in a blockbuster clash. Expect Richmond and the Tigers' faithful to be aching for the chance to hit them back hard.
    Match notes
    - Interesting to see what crowd comes along to this game after the AFL made it a Round 2 clash instead of the season opener. And, especially after both clubs lost in the opening round
    - Richmond forward Jack Riewoldt was an isolated figure up front for the Tigers in their loss to Gold Coast. Richmond only hit him up on three occasions in the forward line, leaving him with less to do than James Hird.
    Say what?
Carlton CEO Greg Swann had this to say about Andrew Walker, who got himself suspended for this week's match after slinging Port's Angus Monfries into a fence: "It hurts 'cause he's obviously one of our better players, finished second in the best and fairest last year and he's fit and he's going to sit in the grand stand. It's not clever that's for sure and he knows it. It's just borne out of frustration the game had been slipping away… he can't explain it and nor can we. It's disappointing but it is what it is and hopefully he comes back and makes amends in Round 3
Last five games (includes 2013 season)
    Richmond
    L 18 Gold Coast
    L 20 Carlton (elimination final)
    W 29 Essendon
    W 121 GWS
    L 10 Carlton
    Carlton
    L 33 Port Adelaide

    W 20 Richmond (elimination final)
    W 1 Port Adelaide
    L 6 Essendon
    Last five between clubs
    Carl, Carl, Rich, Carl, Carl

    Fantasy factoid
Brett Deledio's the man for Rchmond as he delivered a 33-possession performance that delivered the fantasy points as he also picked up eight clearances.
    Cold hard fact
Carlton have won 11 of the last 12 clashes between the two sides.
    Final word
Blues look a little undermanned in this one. Chris Judd is a few weeks off, Andrew Carrazzo won't be there as he looks to build up game time in the VFL and Andrew Walker is suspended. Although Richmond may miss omitted Alex Rance, they look to have too much firepower and too much motivation in this one. Tigers by 13 points.
