It really doesn't surprise me that someone with the intellect of a retarded gnat thinks motor racing involves driving around in circles.

    It doesn't sound good.

The Marussia driver's father Philippe told French television: "Jules is in a bad state. Emergency surgery was performed because of a hematoma in his head. It will take 24 hours until we know more."

But French radio RMC reported that 25-year-old Bianchi's condition subsequently deteriorated after the four-hour surgery, requiring a second operation in the middle of the night to stop bleeding. The report also claimed Bianchi is now being artificially ventilated.
It was a bad day for F1.

The former Formula One driver Andrea de Cesaris has died in a motorcycle accident in Rome. He was 55.

With the French driver Jules Bianchi fighting for his life after crashing at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka, motor racing was dealt another blow when the official F1 website confirmed De Cesaris had died as a result of the accident in his home city.

He drove for the British-based team McLaren for one season in 1981 and the team tweeted: “All at McLaren send condolences to ex-McLaren F1 driver Andrea De Cesaris, who sadly passed away today.”

De Cesaris, who raced for nine other teams, started 208 Grands Prix in a career which ran from 1980 to 1994. However, he did not win any of them – a record for the most races without a success.

His most successful results were second-placed finishes at races in Germany and South Africa in 1983, while representing Alfa Romeo.

The previous year in the United States – and with the same team _ De Cesaris became the youngest driver to start a Grand Prix from the front of the grid, aged 22.

After leaving Formula One, he raced in the Grand Prix Masters series for retired F1 drivers, before becoming a currency trader and windsurfing enthusiast.

I watched the video of the smah. it doesn't look good for a swift recovery. The car lifted the whole back of the recovery JCB off the floor. The marshalls were also very lucky not to be hit. lets hope he can pull through.

French Formula One driver Jules Bianchi suffered a traumatic brain injury in his Japanese Grand Prix crash and remains in a critical but stable condition, his family said.

In a statement issued through his Marussia team, they expressed appreciation for messages of support from around the world and said the 25-year-old's crash at Suzuka on Sunday had left him with a "diffuse axonal injury".

Two eminent neurosurgeons - FIA medical commission president Gerard Saillant and Italian professor Alessandro Frati - were also at the Mie General Medical Center in Yokkaichi after flying from Europe at Ferrari's request.

"The medical professionals at the hospital are providing the very best treatment and care and we are grateful for everything they have done for Jules since his accident," the family said.

"The hospital will continue to monitor and treat Jules and further medical updates will be provided when appropriate."

Bianchi aquaplaned off the wet track at speed with his car hitting the rear of a recovery tractor that had been deployed to remove Adrian Sutil's crashed Sauber.

Hamilton (pole) and Rosberg on the front row.

It was there for Bottas to take but he tried too hard and did a lovely little drift on the last corner.

Hamilton drove a blinder. Put in a great lap just when he needed to. I thought for a second it was going to be Bottas on pole next to Hamilton. Bottas is a future champion I predict. I felt sorry for Massa though. sad to see him so far back on the grid. Should be a good one tonight.

Not a bad idea - especially if it stops teams benefiting from another driver crashing (*cough*Renault*cough*).

F1 drivers back speed limit proposals
    2014-10-12 07:43

SOCHI, Russia - Formula 1 drivers have backed proposals to introduce a 'virtual pace car' or automatic speed limiter that would force the entire field to slow when yellow warning flags are waved.

The idea was raised by race director Charlie Whiting at the Russian Grand Prix on Saturday as one of the measures being considered following Jules Bianchi's horrific crash in Japan last weekend (Oct 5).

French driver Bianchi suffered severe brain injuries and remains 'critical but stable' after aquaplaning off a wet track while yellow warning flags were being waved and hitting a recovery tractor that was removing a crashed Sauber.

    VIRTUAL PACE CAR

The 'virtual pace car' idea would mean drivers would respond to automatic GPS controls as if a pace car was deployed, but without it appearing on the track.

Some indoor go-kart circuits already use a system that cuts speeds at the push of a command from race control.

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton said: "We had a drivers' meeting with (FIA president) Jean Todt on Friday and one of the ideas that came out is in electric karts when a flag comes out and all the engines die or limiters are put on, which is quite good.

"What's good is the FIA is reacting to it, they're trying to find the best solution," the Mercedes driver told reporters.

"The problem with flags is that you want to be safe, but you want to lose as little time as possible, so you're on a knife edge with it."

    GO-KART SYSTEM

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, a double World champion, said he had suggested the go-kart system in the drivers' briefing after visiting a kart track between the Singapore and Japanese rounds.

Alonso said: "If some kind of system can be done in F1, that it's the same for everybody, that everybody maintains the same gap... there is nothing to be done, just to go with the limit of the speed, then that is a good thing."

Red Bull quadruple World champion Sebastian Vettel agreed the technology was there and the sport needed to do something as a result of Suzuka.

Vettel told reporters: "What needs to be done is to make it as fair as possible. I'm sure we have the opportunity with the current systems and technology. It shouldn't be a big problem. It's just about finding the right compromise so everyone is happy."

McLaren racing director Eric Boullier told reporters separately that the sport could test a new system as early as the US GP in Austin, Texas, in two weeks' time.

Whiting indicated on Friday, however, that the main aim was to ensure any changes were well-thought through and to get them in place by the start of the 2015 season.

They're having some stupid all-standing-around-being-quiet for the national anthem, but it looks more like an opportunity for some Russki nobodies to get themselves on the telly.

The drivers look like they've just smelt a really wet fart.

Bernie should have told them to fuck off.

They obviously did it so they could arrest any Ukrainian protestors that might have decided to chip in, but I'm not sure anyone is that mental.

I doubt "Free Crimea" shirts are flying off the shelves.
