AJ was knocked down - and very nearly lost the fight... Clit stepped off the gas thinking the fight was his, he could conserve energy and cruise to victory... let AJ back in it... AJ caught his 2nd wind (as youngsters tend to do) then came back late in the fight.. kudos to AJ, he showed true grit to fight back.. dee mak krup!

It was a very close fight... Klitschko was superbly magnanimous, praising Joshua and thanking his fans. That made my admiration for him go up 10 fold. I'm not a huge fan of his, or think he's the GOAT of anything... just admire his character and sportsmanship.

Let's see how Josh goes against the top heavyweights of the day *when he is 41...

I personally am a fan of Vlad and his tougher harder punching brother Vitali. I will say that Joshua was lucky to escape the fifth. I think Vlad could take him in a rematch. That said the division is about to heat up in a big way and it is not just because of Joshua or the washed up Fury.

It is because of Deontay Wilder and Luis Ortiz. Regardless Joshua will be fighting a rematch with Vlad who has already confirmed he want it.

Deontay Wilder: I’m coming for Anthony Joshua

By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/WBA champion Anthony Joshua (19-0, 19 KOs) on Sunday in telling him that he’s coming for him. Wilder wants to fight Joshua as soon as possible. Deontay was ringside for Joshua’s dismal performance last Saturday against Wladimir Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs) at Wembley stadium in London, England. Joshua was knocked down once in round 6 and hurt several times by the 41-year-old Wladimir.

Thanks to Wladimir making dumb mistake in letting Joshua off the hook in round 6, Joshua was able to eventually recover and knock Wladimir out in the 11th.

”Everything is going as planned. I see you Anthony Joshua don’t get too comfortable. I’m coming For You #BombZquad #Unify2017 #Wilder-Joshua,” said Wilder on his Twitter.

The 6’7” Deontay may need to wait until Wladimir gets his rematch with Joshua before he gets a shot against him, because he has a rematch clause in his contract with Joshua. Wladimir says he wants the rematch. He said he’s tied to him.
If Wilder had any doubts that he could beat Joshua, he’s got to be feeling very confident now that Wladimir exposed him as being a very raw and flawed fighter. At this point, Joshua might not even be the fifth best heavyweight in the division. I think you can make a strong argument that there are at least 5 guys in the division that are better than Joshua right now.

Joshua says he’s open to a rematch with Klitschko. He said he wasn’t sure if Wladimir would want one though. It’s unclear why Joshua would not think that Wladimir would want a rematch. It’s not as if he was dominated in the fight. It was a fight that was up for grabs going into the 11th. Wladimir nailed Joshua with a big right hand to the head at the end of the 10th. In round 11, Joshua knocked Wladimir down with 2 hard right hands. However, the stoppage came from punches that really didn’t connect. The referee stepped in and halted the fight without Wladimir getting hit cleanly. It was a premature stoppage by referee David Fields.

“I don’t mind fighting him again, if he wants the rematch,” said Joshua.

Deontay Wilder will probably need to make at least 1 to 2 title defenses of his World Boxing Council belt before Joshua is free to face him in unification fight in 2018. It’ll be a big fight, and it may not even be a unification match by then. If Joshua faces Wladimir in a rematch, then think there’s a good chance that he’ll lose. Deontay would still likely be interested in facing Joshua even with him having lost to Wladimir.

There’s a lot of green available from the British PPV money that I’m sure Wilder wouldn’t mind getting a peace of against Joshua. If Wilder can get a percentage of the British loot, I can see him throwing a bone to Joshua if he ends up losing to Wladimir in a rematch.
Joshua doesn’t have a better option right now for a big payday. Fury isn’t going to be available for a while. He’s in training camp right now in Spain, but he’s not going to be able to take the 115 pounds off in the next 4-5 months in order to fight Joshua. Losing that kind of weight will take at least 8 months. Even 8 months is pushing it. That would be around 15 pounds of weight loss per month. I think Fury will need at least 1 year to burn all that blubber off.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn says that Fury will also need some tune-up fights before he can face Joshua. Wladimir should have had a tune-up too. I can’t believe he came back from a 2 year layoff to go straight into a fight with Joshua. I don’t think Joshua would do the same thing if he had been out of the ring for 2 years and had lost his last fight. He sure as heck wouldn’t take a risky fight off the back of a super long layoff from boxing.

Wladimir did it the wrong way. He rushed into the fight, as if he were gambling. When you take crazy risks, you come up short more often than not. Wladimir had everything going against him in terms of him coming back from a 2 year layoff and then fighting in front of a huge crowd of 90,000 boxing fans in Joshua’s home country of the UK. Everything was against Wladimir.

“There was definitely a rematch clause for both sides,” said Wladimir’s promoter Tom Loeffler to skysports.com about him having a rematch clause with Joshua. “Wladimir will make the decision on what he wants to do.”

So there it is. Loeffler is saying that Wladimir does have a rematch clause and he will make the decision. Wladimir has already confirmed that he wants the rematch. So unless he changes his mind or has his mind changed for him by Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn, we’re going to see a rematch between Joshua and Klitschko before we can start thinking seriously about a Joshua-Wilder fight. I don’t think that Hearn will let Joshua fight Wilder until he faces Tyson Fury first.

There’s too much risk for Joshua in a fight with Deontay. Think about it. If Joshua fights Deontay, he could get poleaxed and that would ruin any chance of Joshua-Fury fight. I guess the Joshua vs. Fury fight could still happen, but it might need to be moved to a smaller venue rather than the 90,000 seat Wembley Stadium. It would be a tremendous blow to Hearn if he stuck the fight at Wembley Stadium and they only had half capacity of around 45,000 boxing fans turning out to see the fight.
”Of course, we have it in the contract, I’m right now interested,” said Klitschko via skysports.com.

^ Jesus wept... finally, someone agrees with the Dickster!

I'm not saying that Clit is the best thing since sliced Holyfield ear... nope..

We all know, there have been far better, more exciting heavyweights: (Lewis, Tyson, Ali, Joe louis, Sonny Liston, Larry Holmes, etc, etc..)

Just saying he deserves credit for his consistent (albeit boring as fook) style, which would trouble many of the best heavyweights (trouble, if not beat)..

    2. Joe Joyce

    3. Luis Ortiz

    4. Wladimir Klitschko

    5. Joseph Parker

    6. Anthony Joshua

Amazing they put our boy JP up at #5 ahead of AJ??!! WTF?? I'm a Kiwi (big Joe fan) but even with AJ's obvious flaws, Parker wouldn't stand a chance against him IMHO... his T-rex arms 55

    ^ I'll concede that one..

I thought you (or most peeps) would disagree with Tyson on that list, not Lewis.

underestimated, yeah.. that's probably fairly true.. At least we can agree Klit is no pushover...

^ Starting a list like that us always dangerous because you always leave someone off. Like Foreman and Marciano.

Tyson deserves to be on that list without a doubt. Tyson in his prime could have steamrolled a lot of names on that list.

I'm just amazed anyone that purports to know boxing would post "Scott Gilfoid" click bait expecting it to be taken seriously.

    You fucking mug snubby.

By Scott Gilfoid: For some reason, IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) will be an underdog tonight when he enters the ring against unbeaten challenger Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena in London, UK. Martin’s best chance of winning the fight is to take the heavily muscled 244lb Joshua into deep waters tonight before going for a knockout.

Joshua hasn’t had to go deep into his fights thus far due to the soft match-making that’s been done for him by his promoter Eddie Hearn, and there are some real concerns whether he has the stamina to fight longer fights. Joshua has transformed his once lean physique with lots of muscle since he turned pro, and it’s quite possible that the muscle would cause him to gas out in the later rounds.

Martin isn’t worried about the oddsmakers because he knows what he’s capable of doing when he gets inside the ring tonight. The one thing that Martin is concerned with is how Joshua’s fans will react when he knocks him out. Martin is wondering what the reaction will be. He’s not saying whether he’s worried about getting brained by something thrown from fans, but he definitely is curious how the fans will react.

Hopefully, Martin doesn’t get nailed by a thrown object from an angry fan after the fight. I hope there’s a lot of security at the O2 tonight. With the amount of hype that surrounds the 2012 Olympic gold medalist Joshua, Martin might have an audience of very unhappy campers if and when he knocks Joshua out tonight.

Norton passed away in a care facility in Arizona on Wednesday after suffering congestive heart failure, his close friend and former manager Patrick Tenore confirmed.

Norton, who had been in poor health and suffered a stroke last year, fought in the 1970s era of magnificent heavyweights - a group that also included Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Leon Spinks and Jimmy Young - and ended his career with a record of 42 wins, seven losses, one draw and 33 knockouts.

It was Foreman, a former two-time heavyweight champion, who led the tributes, saying on Twitter: "They called us all handsome. Muhammad they called pretty. But the fairest of them all Ken Norton."

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who visited Norton in hospital, tweeted: "Ken Norton was always nice to me even when I was just an amateur fighter. He always treated me like I was somebody. Remarkable man."

Norton will be best remembered for breaking Ali's jaw in their first of three fights, in which he went on to beat him in a split decision, in 1973.

Ali narrowly won their second encounter by a split decision six months later before he claimed a second victory over Norton on September 28, 1976, at the Yankee Stadium in New York to retain his heavyweight title.

"He was a fighter," Tenore said. "He fought a tough battle and we thought he was out of the woods.

"He was a warm and generous man. He was a champion and a fighter and bright-eyed and anxious to see the next day and a dear friend of 20 years.

"Everyone will miss him. He never said a bad word about anyone."

Norton won the WBC heavyweight championship in 1977 when Leonard Spinks chose not to fight him, before he lost the title to Larry Holmes in a very close split decision in June the following year.

Following his boxing career, Norton made several film and television appearances before he suffered a near-fatal crash in 1986 when his car veered off the on-ramp to the Santa Monica Freeway in Los Angeles.

Despite being struck with ill health in later life, Tenore says Norton never blamed this on his professional boxing career, which began with a win over Grady Brazell in 1967 and ended with defeat against Gerry Cooney at Madison Square Garden in 1981.

"Ken Norton never blamed anyone for anything. He never had a bad word about boxing or any of his opponents. This is a man you have never heard say an ill word about anybody," Tenore added.

The World Boxing Council said: "The WBC regrets the passing away of our former champion Ken Norton. May he rest in peace."

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson added on Twitter: "Today a great man passed away. A legend in the boxing world and a good man. Condolences to Ken Norton's family on this very sad day.

"Ken Norton was always nice to me even when I was just an amateur fighter. He always treated me like I was somebody. Remarkable man."
