^ He was admired as a Rugby League player for his skill, but has always been hated for his mouth and the way he plays the race game. Always the whiteman showing him no "respect", massive chip on his shoulder.

When he moved to boxing he was greeted cautiously, mostly due to his father who was a boxer of some renown. Then he converted to Islam and lost just about all support except from the muzzies and 2nd Gen Lebos when he said the US deserved 9/11..

Add to that he has carefully staged his fights to avoid losing, the only time he has fought someone at their peak he had his ass handed to him. Now he is just all mouth.I doubt he will get a payday, the last fight was cancelled because ticket sales and pay per view were in the tank only days out from the fight.

Aussies generally dislike sportsmen who are cocky and open their mouth too much, even if they are good.
Kostya Zhu, Danny Green? Admired. Jeff Fenech? Even people who don't like Abos supported him. Mundine? Detested.
Same as Pat Rafter, everyone's favourite Aussie, Llayton Hewitt, Pat Cash, Phillipousis? Hated.

I suppose we can wax lyrical and go on seemingly forever about great Australian Sportsmen and Women in all the fields , Strangely Enough Necron my choice of the greatest after a lot of thought in the past, has to go to "Our Dawnie" , both my late wife and I was excellent swimmers ,and we even called our Youngest Daughter after her , Dawn Fraser for me was a phenom as well as being some what of a "character" I was informed yonks ago ,her record of 4 Olympic Gold medals and 4 Silvers spanning 3 Olympics ,will go down in the annals of Great Australian sportswomen forever ,I've now gone all cold at thinking how my late wife used to scream her on in the finals and punching the air with delight when Dawn touched home first , they just don't make them like that any more , both my late wife or Dawnie

    For whom the bell tolls

Boxer David Tua has called it quits, after losing a unanimous points decision to Belarusian Alexander Ustinov in Hamilton, New Zealand, last night.

Tua first sprang to prominence as an amateur, winning bronze at the 1991 world championships and another at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, turning professional later that same year.

He quickly became respected for his ferocious left hook and was named as the 48th greatest puncher of all time by Ring Magazine in 2003.

His career reaches its peak with a WBC, IBF and IBO heavyweight title fight against Lennox Lewis in 2000, where he went the distance of a 12-round contest, but lost by overwhelming points decision.

He finishes his career with a record of 52 wins (43 knockouts), five losses and two draws.

^David Tua should just look at that photo, and hang up the gloves.

Andre Ward put on a clinic yesterday, shutting out challenger Edwin Rodriguez and dominating to win a 12 round decision in his comeback fight after 14 months off.
The best action was from the referee, who got clocked in one of the early rounds separating a lot of brawling and docked both fighters 2 points each. lol

The UFC had a bad day. Georges St. Pierre got his butt kicked against Johny Hendricks but came out with the win. Even Dana White the owner was outraged. But the blame squarely on the shoulders of the Nevada boxing commission.

Apparently Fury announced his retirement on Twitter today. Difficult to believe. Probably was having a few beers after Haye cried off.

Luke Tyson Fury[2] (born 12 August 1988) is a retired British professional boxer who fought in the heavyweight division. Having initially been denied the opportunity to fight for Ireland at the Olympic Games, Fury is now permitted to represent both England and Ireland, after tracing his family lineage to relatives in Belfast.[citation needed] He has represented both his native England and Ireland at amateur level and won the ABA championship in 2008 before turning professional later that year. He is the former Irish heavyweight champion and former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion. Fury announced his retirement on 20/11/2013 on his Twitter page

Biggest upset for me was when Lloyd Honnegan went to the US. and beat Don (The Cobra) Curry some years back.
Carl (The Cobra) Frosch fights his ex. sparring partner next Sat. for a world title and all the experts think its a walkover.......

^Was the biggest upset in boxing at the time, as Curry was considered the #1 P4P fighter in the world.

I reckon that Groves is a horrible little Oink and has zero chance of hurting Froch's chin, which is rock solid. Froch looks average, but has proven very effective against all but the very best; and Groves is not that. Can't see Groves going the distance...

^ Frosch, 36 yrs.old and rated as one of the best around.
He is good but it doesn't exactly say alot of the current crop of middleweight divisions.
Hagler, Hearns, Sugar Ray, Ray jones Jr., round 2 would have been as long as it lasted.

Froch is a busy fighter, good puncher with a granite chin. He is also super-fit, can come on late in fights to stop opponents, and always keeps himself in great shape between matches. That in itself marks him out as a bit special at Super Middleweight. He should remove Groves in 6 rounds.
The top boy at this weight class is Andre Ward who is a level above everybody else at 168lbs and up. He fought last Saturday and made a fool of the supposed top contender, even after a 14 month layoff.

There is some real talent in the Middleweight division right now, some good recent fights also: ESPN.com's division-by-division rankings - ESPN

That was a true clinic, and he was almost at even odds so many favored the Mexican after Ward had been off for 14 months. A Bay Area boy from Oakland.

Andre's a class act no two ways about it ,and as you say even after a 14 month hiatus from the sport proved that he's "for real" by taking a so called top contender to "school" , and nice to read that all members who give their 10 bahts worth here are very knowledgeable on the "noble art" which is sadly not evident in other subjects on other threads

Yeah, Ward is top drawer - Froch had nothing against him; and Froch is very decent...

I reckon Froch will be up for this and will go to town; could end it within 3 rounds.

Reading this excellent article it would appear that Froch means to do a "number" on Groves and as the old saying goes "you can run but you can;t hide" personally I think that Froch will be all over Groves like a cheap suit and just walk him down ,I highly doubt that Groves has the fire power to put him on the back foot ,of course this game is full of surprises ,but I expect it will not go more than 6 rounds ,with Groves selling advertising space on the soles of his boxing shoes!George Groves Gives Carl Froch a 48 Hour Warning - Boxing News

Looking forward to this weekend's matchup between Pacquiao and Brandon Rios.. I love watching both these guys fight. The recent friction between the two boxers' trainers will just add to the mix, I hope.

A lot of press recently dismissing Pacman as past his prime, but I expect him to still have too much speed and firepower for the straight-ahead slugging style of Rios. Due to the styles of both fighters, I don't expect this one going the distance and while it lasts should be a fucking cracking fight!

Agreed K and Manny is well angry at the Rios camp for mocking Freddy Roach's parkinson type speech. Its going to be a barn burner. But Manny should take it to him.

Yeah AO a real mouth waterer for sure ,I'm going to abstain on this one after a lot of thought ,this going to be a war and no doubt the Ref will have his work cut out too, any one know if its on TV? , the Bill starts at 8am I believe for the American prime time TV time !!! , taking the piss out of Roach's obvious health problems was way way OTT as you noted ,this could well back fire, one thing for sure is ,we ain;t long to wait to find out have we?

^CTH Stadium 2 (Channel #132?) has it. Dunno about True..

I'll go out on a limb and say Pacman inside 4 rounds. He has a lot to prove after coming back off back to back losses and people writing him off. Given the recent bad blood and brawl between the two camps I'd say Rios has a real spanking ahead of him.. It will be a don't blink fight for sure.

Rios is getting a reported 4 million greenbacks for the fight so his bank balance will be a winner without a doubt whatever happens
